The website Shoryuken.com currently has a fighting game of the year poll setup for the since passed year of 2013. Skullgirls Encore is nominated for two categories: "Best Update" and of course "Fighting Game of Year".
[prbreak] Read full article for more details [/prbreak]

The poll will remain open until January 7th, 2014. This is a good opportunity for the SG community to represent and see where they place among the various other fighting game communities on a notable fgc centric website.

Be sure to stride on down to the above link like the smooth Peacock and vote Skullgirls Encore on both catagories if you haven't already! :PUN:Don't forget to spread the word anyway you can too.

Why isn't skullgirls in the port category? Especially since KOF 13 steam edition got in it...

well we are almost beating chronophantasma for game of the year

Skullgirls Encore is currently ahead in 'fighting game of year' category and 2nd for 'best update' category behind DoA5U with the gap steadily narrowing.

Nice going everyone, keep it up.

...Did we cheat? That seems like a huge jump in a short time to have been accomplished legitimately.

Total votes:
Best New Fighting Game: 4996
Best Update: 5974
Best Port/Re-Release: 5436
Best Fighting Game of the Year: 6783
Most Anticipated 2014 Release: 5729

Both categories with SG have more votes total than those without, and the one where SG is leading trumps the next one down (which also had SG as an option) by several hundred votes and the others categories by more than a thousand. It's way too fishy.

It's very likely that we're the only game that has publicised this poll at all, so it might not be too absurd.

In the "Best Fighting Game of the Year" category, we're up to 1842 votes, up about 50 from the count at my last post less than an hour ago, and it's the middle of the night right now in the US, where I imagine most of these votes would be coming from.

That seems like more than a little much from what publicizing we've done amongst ourselves compared to other games.

And it just gained two more votes while I was typing this.

I'm sure SRK is tracking where votes are from, at least I would be if I were SRK...

We could just legit be the best fighting game of 2013.

I think Skullgirls being released for PC is one reason it's winning. Plus that free to play weekend it had AND the discount that was going on.

I wouldn't be surprised if SRK complainers went on here and found out we made this thread. I don't think us winning would go over well, legit or not...

I know at least FSD made a similar announcement before us about the SRK poll for the DoA community and even the TN Twitter account gave a shoutout.

Skullgirls not mentioned :( not even mispronounced.
Don't see how this is a bad thing, every community could have done this since there was no specifications stating "don't advertise about this poll to support to your respective game". Let the complainers inevitably complain since that is all they can do instead of doing something productive instead.

Kung of Fighter must be a major competitor for them.

we are going to win this yay

Anyone that would be mad because a game's community discussed a fanvote on their own forum instead of keeping it entirely on the website that the poll was hosted on is an idiot. There's nothing unfair or underhanded about making sure that the people who play the game know the poll exists.

I'm sure they are, too, but it might be an undertaking to make sure that each vote is from a legit IP address or whatever they have to do, so we probably wouldn't know immediately. I'm hoping that everything is above board, I'm just really concerned that we're getting named Prom Queen only to go up on stage and get the pig's blood dumped on us here. If it's legit, that's amazing, but if it's not I think we need to be prepared for the possibility, since we're going to be the ones hit with the backlash.

And if it really is legit, I'd prefer that the now 2200+ people who voted for SG in the poll would actually PLAY THE DAMN GAME SOME.

Yo SG is crushing FG of the year right now. Hard 30%

where is the backlash coming from?

There isnt any right now. But there are droves of people who just LOVE to hate anything related to skullgirls

I take it that the dashed line chasing Peacock in jumps on the other hand isn't peeving at all.

Added my votes, however Skullgirls Encore has already been overtaken on the "Best Update" Category. Happily though we retain the lead in "Fighting Game of the Year" with 30% of the vote.

How does SG have such a huge voter base for "best game of the year" and yet I play the same 10 people on Steam... over, and over, and over?
Hipsters. Goddamned hipsters ofcourse.

are you playing on quick match? It seems (to me) like most folks use lobbies on steam.

They all play offline and locally... PFFFFFTTTT

I'm hesitant on lobbies. I noob stomp more there, and I feel bad about that.

Just do what i do, only make/enter 'casual-expert' lobbies. The occassional fella will come in and get curb stomped then leave, but you mostly get decent players. Hell, I'm pretty sure Red Savarin lives on Steam, so you should always get to play against his Fortune.

Poll is coming to a close soon with Skullgirls and Blazblue currently both neck and neck for the 'best fighting game of year' category with Skullgirls having a slight lead (less then 100 votes). Now is your last chance to vote if you haven't already. Thanks SG Twitter for the shoutout earlier today.

Edit: Poll ends 5 PM PST/8 PM PST today.

Poll ended, locked thread. See results at follow up article here.
