instead of making it elimination or swiss system i was thinking why don't we just set a time and date for everyone to go online and join/make a lobby. Does a better job of keeping the online active + your not cutting out people that aren't on the forums.

That sounds like ordinary online matches.

yes its ordinary online matches but this way its not exclusive to forum members. people who just happen to be online at the same time will be able to find matches.

Do people take skullbats seriously ? i thought it started in the first place because the online playerbase was non-existent and this was a way for people to get some matches in.

The online for pc is not that active atm. theres been more than one occasion where ive done a lobby search and found no matches, i can't be the only person this has happened to. Other players could see the empty lobbies and then just decide that the onlines dead and never bother to go online again/ go play another game etc.

That happens to me, too. Then I make a lobby and people almost always join. The online isn't dead just because the majority of the playerbase prefer to sit and wait for games instead of making their own.

If it's unknown people (People outside of a forum/Steam Group), then how will they know they're in a competitive tournament? How do you decide who are the Top Players? RanBats are short for Ranked Battles. Your idea sounds more like casual online matches rather than an online tournament. When there's no elimination or a ranking chart based on wins or losses, then it loses its competitive edge.

hmmm ok didn't realize it was a competitive thing.

It is designed to be beginner friendly as well as a friendly environment but it is simultaneously aimed at people who want to get better competitively. I've posted it on srk, irc, here, in chat during salty cupcakes and the steam group is open. I really hope it doesn't seem exclusive to anyone who would want to participate.
