Skullheart’s forum rules have been updated in an effort to encourage productive discussion and ensure that Skullheart can remain a useful resource for all users.

[prebreak]Click For More Details...[/prebreak] This change has been prompted by a recent increase in unhelpful and derailing posts. In an effort to guide Skullheart forward successfully, the following will happen:
We will be updating our policy from the old, "3 warnings and you're banned," system to a modified version that bans users temporarily based on how many warning points they have earned, and will hinder the user's posting frequency as long as they have those warning points.
We are taking this initiative in order to encourage a higher standard of posting quality for the benefit of all users who wish to actively engage one another on Skullheart. This does not mean that every post or thread must bring new insight to the forum, and there will still be light-hearted threads and social threads. For the threads aimed at proper discussion, however, we will now be more vigilant in keeping those threads on-topic. In keeping with this direction, you can help by reporting posts and threads that are clearly counterproductive.

We know some members might view this move as, “ruining their fun,” but the current forum environment is hindering worthwhile discussion. This is the official Skullgirls forum, and we have a responsibility to foster discussion for people who actually want to play the game and involve themselves in the Skullgirls universe.

This new policy does not have to come at the expense of having fun on the forums, but there are boundaries. By keeping threads focused, we hope to create a better environment for those unfamiliar with the existing culture so that they, too, can also benefit from the information we have gathered.

We are happy to discuss and alter the rules as new situations arise, but changes will only be made if there is a good reason to do so.

Just as a reminder, while we are going to be looking harder at thread derailing, don't be afraid to post stuff. There'll be some leeway with being able to talk about stuff not EXACTLY in line with the topic in a thread, but if stuff is wildly and obviously off topic it'll be modified, moved or removed.

Talking about Ms Fortune in the Filia forum to discuss why she's a bad matchup or other tools is obviously acceptable behavior. So is venting about how she's an unfair character to a degree (try to explain why specific to Filia!), but going off on complete tangents to talk about solo Ms Fortune combo optimizations or why you think Minette should be a playable character so you can use her on your Ms Fortune team clearly have better threads dedicated to them.

The same goes for random news posts and what have you. Discussions WILL pop up in replies that are not exactly perfect fits to the original topic. Just use common sense and don't let them go crazy. If you do have a loosely related topic you want to talk about it but feel the thread is starting to drift a bit too much, leave a link to that new topic's thread in whatever sub-forum it's in and keep going from there!

I remember seeing the MegamanDS thread, ut I can't see it anymore. Does a mod have the power to delete entire threads because possibly by the first post, it becomes extremely derailed so bad it can't be seen anymore?

In extreme cases, we will delete the thread outright, but we'll try to prune it to working status before doing that in most other cases. The new warning system should help with that.

Not trying to be offensive(especially since some blatantly offensive threads that are intended to be that way should be removed), but from what I've heard and seen Admins and Mods on forums cracking down harder than they should ends up ruining a forum. Not saying you absolutely will, but please try not to destroy threads that don't deserve it.

I'd post the no-fun-allowed robot, but I'd rather there was at least a day between learning about the tightened rules and earning my first warning.

On a more serious note, everything in moderation. This applies to both forum silliness and moderating it. For now I hope the change will result in rooting out toxic elements while not causing a noticeable difference for non-malicious posters. How it will actually be, time will tell. #ClichePhrases

I completely agree with you that it's possible to go overboard with this, but the mod team has been discussing this for a while and we think there's a need for a system that actively discourages people from derailing potentially worthwhile threads; so far it has seemed that just asking people not to do it hasn't stopped the same thing from occurring again a few days later.

If anyone seriously thinks we've been too heavy-handed with a particular thread (or any mod decision for that matter), feel free to either PM the mod that did it (or me/worldjem if you can't figure out who it was) or else create a thread in the SH support section and we'll take another look at it.

My only problem with the end of this statement is that if the Mod in question does not want to be removed as a moderator and are extremely protective of that role; posting in the support forum could very possibly be removed before resolution unless the only people allowed to remove threads from that part of the forum are Administrators or extremely trustworthy individuals. I don't mind you guys cracking down, but make sure you set up guidelines and safeguards so that nobody can abuse their power for any amount of time if they do become power mad. I mean the best chains of command in my opinion are the ones who have extra rules for themselves as well as adhering to the ones they set for their users. (Maybe think back to that global fursona twitch.tv icon issue from a while back. there was too much freedom and too little consequence for the actions at hand.)

Would new members get any type of leeway? I see that sometimes new members don't really follow the rules sometimes.

I wouldn't have appointed any of the mods we have if I didn't think they were reasonably level-headed. That said, if you think a mod is acting badly or isn't taking you seriously then you can always send me a PM an I'll deal with it personally.

Yes. This is more about repeat offenders who we know do know better.

As long as members keep the thread flow on topic with their discussion posts, don't flame each other with zero substance shit posting, and in general follow the rules to the best of their ability then nothing will happen to your posting experience and things will remain relatively the same just as before. Which like 95% of all of you are doing already.

This isn't meant to hinder people in general just for the sake of hindering, but add more enforcement measures toward any problematic members that are hindering the other members experience numerous times in the threads by temporarily timing them out from posting privileges. They won't face scenarios like bans until repeated offenses within a limited time-frame so this is perfectly reasonable solution.

The admins at anytime can remove a mod from their service if they been abusing their power in threads for example so I can assure you we are not trying to step on your toes for our own amusement. If anyone has any questions feel free to PM me or any of the mod team.

Is it safe to assume the web server automatically logs any action take by any user, i.e. creating, editing, deleting(your own), or removing a thread and/or comment. Just thought I'd ask since it's the only way I can think of to absolutely know if someone has been abusing their power. Also I'm not saying this to say you guys will, but more often than not people will side with those they know better; sometimes even if evidence stacks heavily against them.

Whenever any deleting happens whether it's posts or entire threads other mods/admins can see the deleted content. There is usually a stated "reason" as well so things like "annoying person" or "winning an argument" won't fly. Blatant Spam Bot threads are the exceptions since the reason is self-explanatory enough. Below is a visual aide example.

Editing other posts is a more rare case since it's only used for more specialized scenarios such as editing a vague/misunderstanding thread title, adding content to the OP out of request/initiative if OP poster is absent, etc. Editing is easier to track because even regular members can see if a post was tampered with such as "post was edited x time ago".

Not to mention the "history" of the post to see the different edited versions. Another visual aide example:

Creating thread posts just shows up on your profile posting history anyway that anyone can see.

In terms of using mod powers out of biased intent to win arguments/help a friend/spite another user/etc there is always a possibility it can happen because that is difficult to prevent 100% of the time despite best efforts , but that doesn't mean we support that and no disciplinary action will follow. They will find out afterwards. Hope this answers your questions a bit.

I've actually already gone rogue and have spent the last 48 hours banning users with names containing vowels I don't like and who's avatar featured a color I found offensive. These bans didn't seem enough, so I went and deleted every post containing 158 characters. I need to change my avatar so it has half a terminator face.

But, no, you guys got nothing to worry about. Probably. At least from me. Most likely.

I am joking (or am I?). This is being handled with the utmost discretion. If we were to in any way ruin what little Skullgirls has in terms of fan base here on Skullheart, we would be ruining the only place any of us can even Skullgirl at. Alternatives for forum activity is basically wait until Lab Zero has excess money to make a forum (and #SkullgirlsCurse, so I'd rather not go that route), or Shoryuken. And I know no one want to go back to SRK.

Can we add a "Don't PM Mike Z with demanding requests more than once a month" maybe?

I thought you already have moderator privileges, so you can smack them on the head yourself. Though I guess a paragraph to back you up is always nice. :P

How would we enforce that?

Mike can just screenshot the problematic PM message and send one of us the cap along with the message explaining that x person keeps spamming him repeatedly with change requests despite him blatantly saying don't do that.

Honesty this applies to anyone if you been receiving harassing PM messages. This actually has happened before with a couple members.

I think sending Mike spam should fall under the "don't harass Lab Zero" rule. It's bad that a second rule about it needs to be made.

I don't mind harassment, this IS the internet after all.
It's un-thought-out requests I can't abide. :^P

You say that, but then it's, "hey, watch those hands, mister!" and then out come the cops.

Mixed signals, Mike. Mixed Signals.

"The cops" is what I call my junk, dude.

I guess you could say...

I agree with the rules... But I know I'll get some warnings pretty soon (bad tendency to answer the post directly above regardless of where it is)
