What are the mechanics behind obtaining meter in this game? What makes it that some characters are leagues ahead of others when it comes to building it?

Being grabbed grants you lots of meter. I think H moves build more than L moves, too, both for the one attacking and for the one being attacked. Not sure who builds more, tho.

Basically, earlier in a combo the aggressor builds more meter, later the victim does.

So short combo into reset will give you more meter advantage than long combos would, especially if you spend meter for the kill.

You can build meter by whiffing until 1 meter, but it isn't really worth altering your tactics in this game to try and whiff at full screen for meter.

Also whiffing specials will always build meter (?)

I do this with Squigly pretty often. Repeatedly seria canceling s.hp(x2) builds meter fast and is very hard to punish

You guys didnt answer my second question though, also if possible, someone knows the exact meter gain numbers?

I wouldn't say characters are leagues ahead of BUILDING meter than others, don't require a lot while some don't however. That's the main difference in Skullgirls.

Characters that use the most specials in a combo build the most meter. Unless your name is painwheel and your flight special builds no meter, and your buer builds very little meter because of its "comboability" meanwhile a character like bella builds stupid amounts of meter on specials even though all of her specials have "comboability".

The only thing that makes this make sense is that pw has a fireball that she can gain meter from and bella really doesnt. Until you realize that painwheels fireball special also builds very little meter.

But its meh in the end.

If you want to build lots of meter, make sure that that you use assist specials in your combos. Preferably assist specials that build a lot of meter.

and what makes it that a move builds more meter than others? Multihits? Damage?

Mike z's whims, basically.

Though I'm thinking a blindfold and dartboard may be a more accurate representation.

Even with the projectile, I'm pretty sure Bella builds more meter than PW at neutral (Diamond Drop whiff builds meter quickly). Poor PW can't catch a break. =(

The Skullgirls wiki has the amount of meter built by each and every move in the game listed in their frame data.
