I've been playing Skullgirls with my local Austin meetup group and while I've definitely improved I've hit a bit of a brick wall and need more focused improvement.

For this exercise (ha) I'm using Filia and Squiggly. I like Filia's speed which plays a lot more to my natural strengths in other games and she "feels" good. While originally I was using Ms. Fortune I noticed I was playing her too much like Filia and thereby losing, so playing Squiggly forces me to switch gears entirely and think about her moves totally different. The results have been pretty good up until this point.

So now comes time for combo building. Current goals and progress:

Filia BnB: Currently attempting c.LK, MK, HP, j.LP, j.MP, j.MK (two hits), ADC, j.MP, j.HK. From here I should be able to do an OTG and continue the loop. I'm having REAL problems getting the "j.MP, j.MK (two hits), ADC, j.MP" section to reliably land. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. DEFINITELY doesn't seem to work against Valentine and Peacock but from what I've read elsewhere on this forum it should, so I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. Any suggestions for a better BnB build that works generically? I'm hoping once I find a generic that I can fall back on I can tweak per-character.

Squiggly BnB: Currently attempting c.LK, c.MK, HP(x2), Silver Chord, MP, HK, j.MK, j.HP. From right about here I should be able to start a loop or at least get close to it. I'm having a much easier time getting this working but the "HP(x2), Silver Chord" REALLY doesn't like to connect. I have no idea what I'm missing on the timing. Like with Filia, any better suggestions for a better generic BnB to start with for Squiggly?

Plans: once I get the generic BnBs working reliably I can test against opponents and see which defensive skills need to be buffed next (push block, counter grab, etc). After I've got an offense and a defense game reliably rolling I can tweak combos for damage output per character and see what else needs to be done (variable combos, zoning, etc).

I don't really know how these diary things work, but if anyone's got some suggestions I'd appreciate it. I've been watching video after video and reading post after post but I'm still having timing issues so I'm open to any suggestions, really.

Quick update, I've changed Filia's BnB to c.LK, MK, HP, j.MP, j.MK (two hits), ADC, j.MP, j.HK, c.LK (OTG), MK, HP, j.MP and it seems to land on most characters. Apparently the j.LP really only works on some, like Valentine and for the purposes of practice at this stage it's a lot easier to just drop it. Interestingly, I'm still having some problems getting the j.MK (two hits), ADC, j.MP to connect but I'm getting a lot better at it. The lack of buffering is really killing me as I'm much more used to Killer Instinct (yeah, I'm old) and similar games where you had a lot of buffering. It's REALLY important to wait until that second hit to input the ADC or it'll never let the j.MP connect. Not sure if I like that since I'd PREFER if the ADC would fail instead of the following hit, but there's not much I can do about it.

Squigly continues to be difficult, no progress at this point. That damned Silver Chord just refuses to connect so much of the time and I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.

Squigly's s.HP x2 xx Silver Cord isn't too difficult, just make sure you input the Cord early so that you're canceling the s.HP ASAP.

Hmm, alright, I'll give that shot to see if I can get it to connect more reliably. Thanks.

As an update, if you input Silver Chord RIGHT as you press the second HP for Squigly it seems to go off. The timing for it is VERY quick as a little too soon or just a *tad* too late and the whole thing fails. That said, thanks to Jason's advice I'm executing it a lot better now. I continue to improve my Filia and Squigly a bit at a time, but no significant updates. Did some "hard" Arcade mode for practice and it's definitely interesting coming back to a real game from just training. I know it's not the same as other people but it's fast, available, and at the moment I don't feel confident enough to go back online again.

As an update I've continued to practice and now seem to reliably be able to pull off Squigly's above-listed combo. Looping it into the QCB LP,LK drop seems to work pretty effectively. This is a very limited use of Squigly's abilities but for now seems to serve me well. Filia can be difficult to get her combos off under fire but I'm definitely getting better at them. I need to work on more entrances with her as her cr.LK doesn't go nearly far enough.
