UPDATE: Beowulf has been released into the Endless Beta!

This week's Salty! tournament came bundled with big news: upcoming DLC character Beowulf will be crashing into the Skullgirls Endless Beta!

Alongside this week's status updates, Lab Zero Games' Mike Z announced that Beowulf will be available for public testing in the Skullgirls PC Endless Beta come next patch, giving a timeframe of either "later tonight" or "some time tomorrow". Are you ready for some brutal ringside manhandling?

Beowulf additions:
  • Beowulf's new stage receives its official name, "NMO Arena". Additionally, it now has (unmistakably placeholder) music!
  • Beowulf now has ground and air throws/throw techs, a burst, a tag out, an assist taunt, and a winpose.
  • Grendel's arm (LVL1) now causes wallstick, enabling you to combo after it with proper spacing and do sick corner-to-corner combos. Wallstick does not apply to assists to prevent midscreen doublesnaps.
  • Far more colored frames!
  • As Beowulf has all of his normals/grabs/techs, he is now beta-worthy!

You can also watch this week's Salty! on UGClive's Twitch channel.

With work on Beowulf speeding along, make sure you don't miss a beat: Catch Rebel Up and Salty! live so that you can watch the updates unfold alongside the community! Watch Rebel Up here every other Saturday @ 4PM PST. Watch Salty! here every other Friday @ 8PM PST. Next week will be Rebel Up, don't miss it!

So Where's Robo Fortune? hmmmm?
Tortilla here letting us all down

Holy shit, I never saw how he falls out of The Hurting during his timeout animation like the lovable goof that he is. That killed me. I dunno why but it reminds me of Scott Pilgrim.

I'm going to be disappointed if the tagline for when Beowulf is released is anything but

The Wulf Unleashed

So Where's Robo Fortune? hmmmm?
Robo Fortunes main development will start after Beowulf is finished and moved to retail.

Don't try to cover it up. We all know you were super serious.

I've think they've stated that Robo and Beowulf will probably come out at the same time, or at least not too long from each other. So her development is being made during beos.

That color for Beo is the greatest thing ever!!!

Yes. I think when they finishing Eliza, they were making beowulf as well.

I love how Mike said that it was supposed to represent the 80's.
That's the reference, the entirety of the 80's.

I love references like that. Ones that aren't particular characters. Like Brazilbella, or old timey Peacock, Hotrodbella, I also sort of count Luchawulf seeing how Mike said he's not a reference to anyone in particular.

Also: Sorry for double posting!

Beowulf is out NOW!

...and I could use a move list...

Basedwulf has arrived! Now I can finally fill in that third slot.

Adding to Makross's post:

So...

You guys are trying to devlop Robo along with Beowulf's development or in the middle stages or even near the end?
In the palette thread, a user called Delphox has been data digging Endless Beta updates and posting hidden colors to the Skullgirls wiki. We saw the Zubaz and El Santo Beowulf colors before they premiered on Salty! so what was found for Robo-Fortune may be legit:

She's (It? Do robots have gender-specific pronouns?) got colors so she is probably well into redraw and clean-up phases.

NMO? New Meridian something?
New meridian order. It's a play on new world order, a group of wrestlers in the 90s. Hogan was in it and shit, I'unno.

Or this...

<Mic drop>

This character sticks out like a sore thumb. He's everything I expected and did not want in this game.

I don't actually understand what you're complaining about in those two screenshots?

I hate having to explain the joke, so I'm going to let someone else do it. Nadia?

:PUN:<(Beowulf is "Jumping the Shark" as you can see here in this first picture. The term is attributed to the show "Happy Days" where the character "Fonzie" Jumped over a shark on water skis and is widely considered to be the point where the show began it's rapid decline. As such the phrase is used to confer a point in the lifespan of a work where the quality is not expected to improve.)

And on the second picture, Nadia?

:PUN:<(Well as you can see clearly here, the face of the character "Scrappy-Doo", has been pasted over Beowulf by my lovely and quite talented friend here. The reference here being is that Scrappy-Doo is a character in the Scooby-Doo that is universally hated by the show's fanbase. The conflation here is to point out that Beowulf is a worthless character and that the author would prefer to see him loaded into a rocket and shot into the sun and, by definition of the label, believes that her opinion is shared by a significant portion of the fanbase.)

Thank you, Nadia. Quite helpful as always. Anything you'd like to add?

:PUN:<(Well that tart Cerebella likes him, so meow good can he be?)

Awesome, and good of you to work in that pun at the end.

:PUN:<(I'm here Mewsdays and Purrsdays.)

I am being humorous about it, but I absolutely despise Beowulf and I think he has no place in this game.

Now then, I'll open the floor to questions.

Wow, Denizen must hate you...

I don't see how Beo is any more over the top than any other character.
And as far as the scrappy thing, we can't know that until he is voiced, at the moment he has only the suggestion of a personality.
Also I adore Cerebella.

I'll be perfectly honest, I did not understand either of those two pictures. I thought the first one was surfing because of his pose, maybe you should just have used a jump screencap? And the second didn't make much sense. I fully disagree with your opinion of Beowulf and know a lot of people that also do, so at the very least Scrappy isn't accurate.

If you define jumping the shark as "where quality is not expected to improve" then I may agree since the quality will probably remain the same as the rest of the game, but I'd argue that's the wrong definition. If you define it as "where quality is expected to rapidly decline", which is more accurate, then no. (^.^)
I do commend you for not linking to urbandictionary on either of those, though.

You'll get used to it. When Big Band was in Beta, I thought him being in the game was stupid because he's a guy in a game called Skullgirls and he was so big compared to everyone else. Also due to the fact that the game is animated traditionally, no one looks up at Big Band and just stares at his chest. But I forgot that I didn't like him because of that pretty quickly.

I'm legitimately curious why. He's designed by the same person that designed everyone else, both for art and gameplay, animated by the same team...
?

I think the past 3 DLC characters all really stuck out at first. Eliza, Big Band and Beowulf all have massive attacks and are all pretty big (so is Double, I know.) But they started look less weird when they got colored in and I got used to seeing them in the game. You get used the original group of characters so you go into shock whenever somebody new comes along. With time it'll be like they were always there. Got used to Big Band and Squigles faster than I've gotten used to Eliza, but still.
Beowulf is unique in that he is a male character that doesn't look like a tent wearing hat, but all the characters stick out in some major way. There's only one Double, or Peacock or Parasoul, etc.
Also I've never had a problem with the inclusion of male characters, never saw female characters as a requirement or trademark of the game. I just generally liked a lot of the female options for characters better than males (Annie, Scythana, Hive, Umbrella, Dahlia, Marie.) But I also liked some of the dudes, and Beowulf was my favorite of the dudes, not as a character (I think that'd be Yu-Wan or Adam) but as a PLAYABLE character who wasn't somebody else's sidekick.

Don't know why I'm sharing my musings... just cause I guess...

The reference here being is that Scrappy-Doo is a character in the Scooby-Doo that is universally hated by the show's fanbase.
You do realise Beowulf was chosen in a democratic vote among fans who supported the game and made DLCs possible in the first place.
