As if Skullgirls' 3rd anniversary wasn't enough reason to feel good, weekly SG meetup Salty! had to go and make everything nicer with a set of fresh Robo-Fortune updates. Prepare yourselves!

First off, Meridian Rapid Area Transit has seen some adjustments to address complaints of nausea/lack of spatial awareness. The train now moves at a slightly slower speed, and steel supports have been added onto the sides of the freight car to aid in spatial awareness while airborne. Additionally, the hype train appears onscreen longer and faces the correct direction once summoned by the power of syck burst baits. You do have those, right?

On to the meat and potatoes of this update: Robo-Fortune!
  • Robo-Fortune now has her final character select art.
  • Minus her crouching idle and one other animation, Robo-Fortune's entire existing moveset has been colored and cleaned!
  • c.HK floating heads now have a function; they're part of an array of moves that Robo-Fortune will be able to perform in the future, and the first one of these moves has been implemented! Medium strength heads will bury themselves into the ground and function as proximity landmines. Up to three such landmines can be buried at one time, adding yet another dangerous tool to Robo-Fortune's zoning belt. They don't disappear when Robo-Fortune gets hit, but can only stay out for a maximum of six seconds.
  • Robo-Fortune has her second super, and it's a doozy: Robo-Fortune summons a mighty vacuum from her arm, and uses it to suck in anyone foolish enough to be in her sky. The vacuum (which can be held for a variable length) pulls in airborne opponents, much like Tager's Atomic Collider. This vacuum grab is unblockable if the opponent is travelling upwards, like all other anti-air grabs. It allows Robo to do many otherwise-impossible conversions, like fullscreen OTG pickups or comboing off of ground throw. If you're feeling stylish, this super also has a finisher where Robo-Fortune violently dunks the opponent into the ground.
Expect to see all of these changes in the next Endless Beta update!

Finally, in the wee hours of this week's Salty! Mike Z gave what's likely to be his last pre-release update on Beowulf: Beowulf is due to release on PC/PSN next Friday, April 17! You have less than a week left to wait. Unfortunately, there might be a longer wait for 360 users due to circumstances outside of Lab Zero's control. Stay tuned on that!

Um, c.HK pop out the heads, not s.HK.

I tried to stay awake for the whole stream but missed the release date announcement
Probably happened right when I feel asleep smfh

Oh well, this is awesome news

M8, it's c.HK what spawns the heads, also FINALLY! they can finally do more than watch me get horribly rekt :PUN:

You can click on "Check out the full Twitch archive here!" from the OP, the updates start 3,5 minutes in.

Am i hallucinating, or can we say it took less than two weeks? That would means the curse is finally broken!

On top of all that, maybe a bigger mentioned in that salty edition is that Mike said they would totally do a new Darkstalkers if capcom goes down under(it's just a matter of time...) and sells the IP. Althought it will probably never happens, i would definitely throw bags of money in order to see that!

Didn't stay for the whole stream but I'm glad to hear Beowulf is going to be officially released soon.

cool. looking forward to playing mr wulf.

rewatching the stream archive reveals the most exciting difference between PC and console versions is SICK GUITAR SOLOS.

Skullgirls vs Darkstalkers
Same. Were they talking about such a crossover during the stream?

I never thought I would say this but I hope to whatever cosmic being there is that Capcom goes under.

If thats what it takes to get new Mega Man and Darkstalkers then so be it.

We were talking about if/when Capcom goes under and sells all their IP's, Mike was saying he'd like to try and buy Darkstalkers if/when that happens.
He was just talking about making a new, good Darkstalkers, but of course the chat was all "crossover when".

I'd play a new Dalkstalkers, if Mike were making it. That's about as close to a guarantee on me enjoying it as I'm gonna get.

SGvDS (Skullstalkers?) is just a no-brainer slam dunk, to me, though. I know this is just a fun little navel-gazing, "what-if?" but I think it's pretty obvious why people would talk about a crossover right off the bat. The character designs are fairly complementary.

Well, the jazzy feeling and the 'anything goes' design of darkstalkers along with the style of animation have always seemed similar to skullgirls to me, that's why althought i know the main inspiration was Marvel vs capcom 2 if i remember well, i always saw Skullgirls as the spiritual sequel to Darkstalkers that capcom will never make! But well overall capcom had alot of talents for making 2d fighters in the past, it's to wonder where all these people are today...

But realisticaly, Capcom won't go under anytime soon no matter how much hate they accumulate these last years. Street fighter is still a religion no matter what they do and Monster remains extremely profitable. But for those waiting for new megaman games, well if you don't mind 8-bit games there's dozen of great megaman games done by fans these last years. And Inticreates(those behing the megaman zero and ZX games) is also on a roll with the Azure striker gunvolt games lately!

Really liking the way Robo-Fortune is being designed. And Darkstalkers with the Skullgirl artstyle would be a dream come true.

Darkstalkers 4 developed by Lab Zero? That would be the perfect sequel for me! Thank goodness that Crapcom is never making a new one since they will most likely make it terrible.

I think Skullgirls vs. Darkstalkers could work really well. Some of the characters are kind of similar. For example:
Filia and Fukua = Morrigan and Lilith
Cerebella = uhhhh.... Sasquatch?
Peacock = Baby Bonnie Hood/Bulleta
Parasoul = NONE
Ms. Fortune = Felicia
Painwheel = Victor
Valentine = NONE
Double = NONE
Squigly = Hsien Ko
Big Band = NONE
Eliza = Jedah and Anakaris (combined)
Beowulf = Jon Talbain/Gallon
Robo Fortune = Huitzil/Phobos
Yu wan and Minette = Rikuo/Aulbath
Hive = Q-Bee (These two are VERY similar lol.)

So was this update just timed so everyone forgets its Cerebella's birthday again?

I'm loving how much less of a clone Robo Fortune has become than when she was first envisioned. I guess Fukua was a good example too sharing a model with Filia but not sharing more than a few moves exactly the same.

Hope @Dev

This happens every year. Everyone celebrates the anniversary of the game, naturally, but forget the next day being Bella's birthday.

She is exactly as much of a clone as she was first envisioned to be. Just 'cause you thought something else doesn't mean that was the idea.

Well for Robo-fortune i think the biggest surprise was her actual model that were more different from miss fortune than expected, althought they have similar animation. Since she was compared to robo-ky and that robo-ky itself started with just a different face from Ky look-Wise(in fact, in his very first appearence in guilty gear X he didn't even have that...), that's probably why we weren't expecting such a big change. It's better to be positively surprised than to be disapointed after all!

Oh and as for Cerebella's birthday...i guess that's happens when you're mean toward cats, the internet isn't very merciful toward that...

I REALLY like how Robo-Fortune is playing. I may have another maaaaaaaaainnnnnn.

Edit: Aw, look at her little heart. Makes me want to watch Metropolis.

PSN updates tuesady? so i'm guessing the 21 PS3 users will get da BeoWULF!!!! time to get my SG game on!!

21? Where does that number popup from?

Its the day the PSN store gets updated

Sorry, silly me, i thought he were implying there were only 21 users!

Robo Fortune's magnet throw looks like a reference to T. Hawk's command grab.

Cool, thanks for pointing it out! I was sure i saw a similar throw before, but i couldn't remember where!

I wasn't home for the stream but don't many of VS's mechanics go against Mike's design philosophies?

You reference to what part of design philosophies? Since Marvel vs capcom 2 was the main inspiration from what i heard, it's quite unlikely. Even more when he constantly have balanced tons of things so that VS action would actually works well! He even wanted to add the MvC superjump, but alot of combotist have disagreed...
