Report 5/1 Salty - Taunt Madness, Robo-Fortune Completed

Yes, Chicken, is a fucking video game. But some people take it more seriously than others.

And why people are saying that Squigs taunt is a reference to Akuma's raging demon?
same input

But how is Squigs' taunt a reference to raging demon?

It's name is called caring demon.

Are we absolutely sure?

Squigs doesn't just charge at the opponent and black out the screen?

Yes

Imo I don't mind taunts that do nothing objectively since it requires skill to use them. If your opponent can successfully perform a move that only hinders them and leaves them open to punish, then I can personally live with the insult and sort of respect it in a way.

It's interesting to see what Filia's became since her original taunt was scrapped early in her production I believe (like that infamous timeout pose). It's suppose it's kind of a predictable thing to do for a taunt, but I like how Filia shows some sass in it as well (and is actually enjoying herself in the taunt this time!). Squigly's is almost too cute to be a taunt, but I guess it could come across as a "You will never have a bond like us!" kind of thing.

Btw does anyone know if all these new animations where done by the same amount of commissioners as the rest the other characters moves where? Or was it that since there was only this one move that had to be done for each character less people worked on them? I remember Mariel teasing Ms. Fortune's back in March (after an influx of research videos of cats stretching), but I wonder how many people worked on it to become the final product? From that date I'm guessing it must have took around about a month and a bit to finish?

EDIT: Looks like Mariel's new Tumblr post answers my question about commissioners. It appears that these taunts where pretty much done by the key staff animators exclusively then. Mariel seemed to have done most of them herself! I wonder who did Painwheel's, Double's and Squigly's though...?

EDIT 2: Persona posted on his Tumblr that he did Painwheel's and Double's. Nice! But the origin of the mysterious Squigly taunt continues to eldude me.

I assume that taunt was removed from the game for the same reason that gross filia lose pose was cut

also im sad that taunts do nothing but at this point in the games development I dont blame Mike Z for not wanting to add buffs, like what if a taunt was found broken later, Mike Z would have no way of balancing it anymore after the game is done. It's better for them to do nothing. though I kinda hope in the future buffs would be looked at for a future game

I dunno man, it's like,
if you get inordinately pissed off because someone manages to pull off a vsav super just to do a cute animation, isn't that your own fault for getting inordinately pissed off at someone managing to pull of a vsav super just to do a cute animation?

why is everyone suddenly getting worked up over taunts, they're just little motions that are cute af and who cares that they don't do anything
why can't we all bE HAPPY that they were added
double has most bad-ass taunt and you can all leave ;_;

It's just that we've been spoiled by the fact that previous taunts did stuff. So, some people feel entitled to having all taunts in the game do stuff, even though taunts doing things is not the norm in most fighting games. That's why everyone can't be happy.

But I'm happy.

Because different things make different people happy. Useless taunts make one group of people happy but not another. Useful taunts made both groups happy.

Unless there is a mysterious be happy switch that suddenly let's you overwrite your emotions. As awesome as that would be it doesn't exist as far as my knowledge goes.

For real though I don't see why people can't understand that 's group of people would be upset that the game just introduced moves with no purpose other than to make another person feel bad. No one likes feeling bad.

Really we are just looking at two groups of people with two different priority lists here. Both groups liked taunts that did stuff. One group, if that isn't an option, would rather see taunts that don't do anything. Another group would rather see no taunts at all. It's pretty clear that one group wants taunts for the explicit purpose of taunting and the other wants taunts to be moves and generally dislikes the idea of taunting.

Prior to the last update both groups were pleased. Now one side has to be chosen so of course the other will be upset.

Then remove the buffs for the other taunts, geez, nerf everyone in that aspect or leave it as it is, which is how it should be, I'm fine with the regular taunts doing nothing than just give a quick laugh as well as the others doing small buffs, it's not like i'm gonna be taunting often anyway, if i want to make someone feel bad i just teabag them like crazy, and by crazy i mean that i mash the crouching button so hard my char skips some crouching animation frames, i'm sure bitching over the new taunts is not gonna have them changed, or the old ones changed, can't we just be THANKFUL that they exist now and that Lab Zero took the time to add them? the game improved, that's what truly matters.

What if I tell you the fact some taunts do something pisses me off
What's Mike gonna do about it uh

If SG had a few more years to be balanced, I'd imagine taunts might be tinkered with and be given an in-game effect for the original cast. As things are now, there is just not enough time (or money) to do that and the game is at a really good spot in terms of balance. As Mike said, the originals (minus peacock) weren't designed around taunts, so we would need to test them out and tweak them over time in order to have everything rebalance again.

We do not have that time.

Just appreciate that they're even there or ignore them and move on. You're only making LZ feel bad by complaining and they have done more for us than any dev team has done for their fanbase than I have ever known.

I don't think anyone wants to take the old ones out. It's more including the new ones that is the 'problem' no one seems to have a problem with useful taunts.

Except for chicken with tie. I'd useful taunts upset him or another group of people then once again we now have three groups and someone will need to be pissed off.

But as I said multiple times I accept there is no time to make the new taunts do things. I accept that. Not asking them to do that. Personally though, I would rather have not seen any new taunts added at all of they had no in game effect. I don't like taunting... Period. You guys keep saying "just feel the way we do. Enjoy them or ignore them." it's not that simlple. I can't just ask you to agree with me. You feel the way you feel. Taunts either piss you off or they don't.

Taunts with no use are a disappointment. They make the game more toxic. I don't like that. Anyone who is ok with that got what they wanted. Great. Celebrate. Be happy.

I am not happy. I've been happy since Mike started developing skullgirls. I've promoted this game with an most evangelical fervor. I've been singing it's praises since I got to play the version with just Filia, Cerebella, and Peacock, with a text menu at E3. Every change that has been made in the past has been awesome. This ONE change really does make the game less fun for me and I have the right to feel that way. If you don't like that you can just ignore me...

Except you can't right? I'm right here in your face. I'm present. You can't just shut your mind off to me because you can see me.

The same goes for taunts. You can't just ignore them because they are there. You can't just shut off the part of your brain that perceives them. Hell they are taunts! They by definition are meant to elicit an emotional response. How on earth could you say "just don't have that emotional response."

And that emotional response us to make someone feel bad. Thats what the definition of taunt is. So people are angry that a set of moves that is specifically meant for no other purpose than to make people feel bad has been integrated into the game and your response is "just don't feel bad." If you aren't trying to make someone feel bad why have the taunts in the game in the first place. How ass backwards is it that apparently the "right" thing to do is not feel bad when confronted with moves designed to do that!

God... I fucking hate how entitled people are to being toxic to other people. That's bullshit. I'll tell you what this started as a minor annoyance but the more I hear why people want to keep useless taunts in the more I am convinced they are a horrible idea.

But y'all got what you want already. I know I'm in the minority. Enjoy your taunts and I'll continue being sad that online skullgirls is now a less welcoming place. Consider the issue dropped, I have said my peice.

nobody in this community should feel entitled to taunts that do stuff
the company works hard to dish out what they make already.
let's all just agree the taunts are nice and thank LZ for what they do. ;___;

if i want to make someone feel bad i just teabag them like crazy, and by crazy i mean that i mash the crouching button so hard my char skips some crouching animation frames

Good point, the taunts save us all from teabagging. No offense to anyone who enjoys crouching and standing in rapid succession, but it looks terrible (you're having a seizure?) and only conveys your mental state (U MAD?) rather than dominance. Having proper taunts in the game provide elegance for moments of arrogance, elation, or frustration. More excellent animation to look at.

For real though I don't see why people can't understand that 's group of people would be upset that the game just introduced moves with no purpose other than to make another person feel bad. No one likes feeling bad.
But you don't have to feel bad. Just as a jumping HK can take a chunk of your life bar, a taunt is a kick to your ego. Mentally block it and see it for what it is: your opponent has time to taunt means you made a mistake. Think of them as notes for correction.

You keep calling these non-buff taunts useless. They aren't. They do what taunts do: incite a reaction. They'll only work if you let them. Besides, other than Peacock's "Why are you so bad at videogames?" none of them are explicit insults unless you twist them to be that way.

I just hope that L0 ignore all the "upset" about en new taunts and continue with the game to finish the upcoming ports, im not the dev, an im getting tired of reading all the " im upset because the new taunts doesn´t make something besides taunt the opponent, I totally forgot that the game have a actual meta/ game balance and you L0 guys doesn´t have the time/ money / manpower to chance ALL the characters to doesn´t brake the game"

Come on people, just enjoy the taunts, now your fav. chars have one.....and doesn´t make worse/ OP wheatever!

To everyone complaining about the new taunts, please consider these questions :
- Are they in a paid DLC?
- Do you get new content like this in AAA fighting games in a free patch?
- When was the last time you launched a AAA fighting game one day and said: "oh cool, new free stuff!"

Taunts with no use are a disappointment. They make the game more toxic. I don't like that. Anyone who is ok with that got what they wanted. Great. Celebrate. Be happy.
I'd better be taunted like this rather than having someone doing an epileptic remote teabagging attempt. You know, when a character looks like to have diarrhea and a seizure in a sudden. This is more classy, don't you think?

Indeed, now i can have Leviathan hug my Squigly rather than make her have the biggest seizure ever, no sarcasm, it's way more practical.

People that who likes teabagging can still teabag.

I really don't mind taunts having no effects, and I actually prefer it unless it's core to their gameplay(e.g. Q and Beowulf)

But I'm imagining it from a newcomer's perspective that don't know the context of why some taunts don't have effects and it does make the game "seem" (reaaal heavy emphasis on that) unfinished.

But yeeaaah, for me it only bothers me on an OCD level, and explaining that part of the game will be a bit weird.
It ain't that big of a deal though really and I'm mainly happy that everyone actually has a taunt now =)

I just used CR.LP or the daisy pusher frowny face.

Why would I t bagg in my fighting game.

And funny enough I had long been against taunting, but once I realized doing Squigly's cr.lp after winning and was being a hypocrite the whole time, I said fuck it and abandoned that train of thought.

Caring Demon sounds really hype still.

I would love it if the cpu was made smart enough to taunt you if they manage to annihilate you with over half or so of their health remaining, if they can in that last second before round end.

Would be especially amusing or aggravating if they do so on sleepwalk!

I'll just quote this here because I need it to be quoted
You're only making LZ feel bad by complaining and they have done more for us than any dev team has done for their fanbase than I have ever known.

An opinion is an opinion, but you can't expect more from a dev that managed to give more to its community that what they should have.

This is directed to everyone who doesn't like taunts: does this stuff break the game gameplay-wise? Did you lose a match because the opponent made a move modified by his char taunt? And if you think they should have effects, wont they make you feel more hurt since everyone will start using them more often?
And it's not like you couldn't taunt in any other way like with moves or else.

You want to see the other way players "taunted" others? Go read the 2 "Rage Quit Galleries of Shame" threads: it has both cases of taunting and taunted person and that was probably WAAAAAAY worse than those taunts. Really, go have a quick look, it's one helluva ride.
Yeah I also posted in those but I didn't taunt anyone except for the last post on the second one, that was my fault and I'm ashamed of it, sorry.

Anyway, SG isn't even a game about taunt effects: Big Band had one because it probably was an experiment or something, I dunno, Eliza because her blood mechanic was cancelled and Beowulf and RB because probably they were carried by the two previous cases, or in the case of RB because maybe L0 could do a super with a missile barrage or something, again I don't know. Also Fukua didn't have any added effect.

So
Useful taunts made both groups happy.
If you're implying that taunts with effects make people happy then no, not always.
I'm done talking though, Lab Zero must be really sad right now.

I am mildly incensed by this, thanks. Do people not know how many taunts in 3s just reduce your STUN?
Lemme add these to my "Read this if I ever get the urge to make another fighting game" doc.
Uhm... e-exactly how big is that doc? If I may ask ofc. N-not that I can't imagine some of the stuff there might be in it also.

Teabagging is way more offensive. And stupid looking.
That's the whole point, it looks so stupid and ridiculous it's rather hilarious depending on the person, i've been teabagged in online before and i always have a nice laugh at it, sometimes i even had teabagging contests against people in quickmatch, we just keep crouching trying to see who teabags faster.

Now taunt contests are possible :PUN:

I would love it if the cpu was made smart enough to taunt you

Big Band's AI has him to use his s.lp (honk honk) twice after he knocks you down.

The secret is that all the new taunts in sg reduce stun too.

well not really, but of all the things in this game that people have chosen to go on social justice rants about...this is probably the one that is the most dumb.

news flash: taunts inherently more toxic than teabagging. more news at 11

How about something like just holding down HP on a win having these new taunts play out as a win pose?

They're all so cute and need to seen more. Preferably after every match if possible.

And it has no game play effect and it rounds out some characters who have only one win pose. (Val, Fortune, Double, Parasoul, Squigly, Bella, PW)

I just get so angry when someone eats chocolate at me... ;_ ;
