So, Ive been meaning to start up my own youtube channel for awhile now, showcasing my animation, and doing so in a form that I love. So using my animation knowledge, I'm looking to display it in an entertaining form of reviews for games, tv shows and movies. with a regular release between breaks from contracts.

I want to kick off this channel, by doing a review of skullgirls. using my animated host, to give his 2 cents on the game. Ive read reviews on Skullgirls, and I honestly feel they don't cover the finer points of the game that make it stand out from other fighters. usually being reviewed by casual fighters, I want to be able to cover the finer niche points to the game.

Several things I have in mind, is covering the anti infinite system, burst baiting, crossups, crossunders, canceling, resets, team building, and the inventiveness of the combo system. I do plunk alot of time into this game, but I figured it would be best to ask you, the community, if you feel there are aspects to the game I should cover that hasn't been mentioned yet.

my goal is to attract new players, and increase our community.

here's a link to my animation showreel for those of you that arent familiar with my work yet.

list of possible features to cover: (updated via suggestions)
-anti infinite system
-burst baiting
-crossups
-crossunders
-canceling
-resets
-team building
-diverse combo system
-pbgc
-story and lore
-punishing mashers
-Alpha counters
-Lab Zero's production history on skullgirls

I think your animation work is really impressive and I eagerly look forward to this.

Try to add unblockable protection and reversals (especially the prevalence of mashing, and that mashing can be countered viciously in this game!)

I would like to see the review sometime when you are done. Are going to look into a little bit of lore/story?

yeah, I feel lore and story in fighting games is like an after thought to the game itself, but I do like the universe of skullgirls.

unblockable protection, punishing mashers, and pbgc. Ill add these to the list

oh shit! you worked on Axe Cop?!

I love that show!

Oh man, Skunk fu!

Wait what were we talking about?

Oh yeah. Details of why the net code is better than SFIV.

details of the net code eh? Im not sure how to cover that since im uneducated in that field

you should also take into account the immense amount of work people put in and the money issues, because some people had to take extra jobs just to make ends meet.

if you ask me it's a positive and a negative for their own reasons.

lab zeros history eh? I like it

Skullgirls uses roll-back based net code, while a lot of other games are delay-based. I'm sure half the frequenters of this forum (myself included) would write you a book on it (or at least find a really good description somewhere), if you think it would be a good addition to your video.

on that description, I have a fair idea of how it operates. suppose I should do some research regarding it

Ok can't wait to see!
Maybe talk about the, "skullgirls curse"

I actually plan on doing a review myself after beowulf is released for a more "complete" review instead of waiting and doing it mid-beta.

Anyways, I actually already have a 4 page script done, i just need to do the recording of voice and video game footage. Since you're gonna be my "competition," I'll keep it short, BUT make sure to say this:
1. Don't fanboy. We all adore skullgirls, but just be sure to review it from a fairly objective point of view (along with your subjective likes/dislikes thrown in of course)
2. Be sure to not go on overly about mechanics and such. It's a review...not a guide...unless you're making a guide.
3. More importantly, cover WHY people should care about skullgirls on PC & what differentiates them from Blazblue, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, KoF, and other fighter ports. I'd say more, but then that's dipping into my material lol.
4. Make sure the voicework is PERFECT. If you need a script read I don't mind donating my voice haha.
5. Provide links & such for beginners to start up on :)

P.S. Ohhh, also explain how "DLC" works because people seem to always be confused about that.

I dont see it as competition, if we both can attract new players, then its sexy times all around. Thanks for the tips dude!

my script for this review is written out, and im starting to record footage for it. If any of you want to assist in donating footage or join me in a lobby while I record footage, hit me up on here or on steam. I only play val and bb, and dont want a bunch of footage of just them fighting other characters, I need to mix it up.

Been keeping this in the back of my mind since you told me about it. Glad to see it's progressing.

Just an update on this, my character for the review has been designed, audio has all been recorded, and Ive got all the footage I need to make a solid review. Now to peace this beast together and get to animating. Ill post it here once its done and uploaded. probably wont be for awhile since I aim to have 3 episodes of this review series done before I start uploading.

Good luck on the animation! I can only imagine how much work it'll be but I can't wait to see what you'll do with this.

video editing is fully done. all that's left is the animated host.
Wow, I'm late to this topic. Props for taking this on. Let me know if you need another person to look your work over, give tips, etc.

Im not sure how to contact the creators about this subject. I would like to ask them for permission to use skullgirls music for this review, it just fits best with everything Ive done so far. I know mike_z is on this forum, but not sure whats the best way to contact him. anyone know how I should go about doing this?

Dude Mike is Totally Fine if you use the SG sound track. just credit it in the end of the video and you'll be square. But if you want to contact him just find him on Steam or just say hi to him on the forums via PM.

Try asking them on Twitter. They're pretty good about responding to questions through that medium.

haha oh yeah. the review is nearly done. 2 more scenes to animate, and then some splash art for the youtube page and end title cards. then moving onto the next game

yup nice animation. Great job giving a character who is just a box emotion and personality thru his movements. Certainty not easy to pull off. Look forward for more!

This was fun to watch, definitely the most fleshed out review for the game i've ever seen. You really went out of your way to explain to people HOW it plays and HOW it works instead of just going "its good guys it looks pretty and it plays fun" so props for that foshofosho <3
