Another training diary that no one will read or care about

Quick Val question: does she have anything unreactable in the corner other than the basic low/throw, or double-overhead/fastfall trickery that involves either a lockdown assist or a HUGE gap in the pressure? Whenever I've tried going for IAD overheads against good players, they've always been blocked unless the player was going for a throw tech.

EDIT: Also, @Hilary and @ClarenceMage , in that combo, where are the land/rejumps at?

Seriously considering dropping Val.

She literally does nothing good. In basically every regard, she's worse than every single other double-jump character in the game. So what if she has a gimmicky airdash? It doesn't let her do anything that Filia and Fortune can't do better, and her neutral game is garbage, since her pokes are shit and her actual air movement speed is fairly slow. Add sub-par damage to that and... yeah, there's just no reason to pick her.

I was going to let you wallow in self pity... But I'm a bit bored right now... Things that val is great at or just very good:

Corner carry off just about anything. Cornered characters are a shell of their former selves.
Run into st.lp is a great footsie tool. Mix it up with a throw or a low after the st.lp.
She converts easily off of any dp assist in the game and has good resets.
She makes space easily with double jumping backwards to reset the neutral.
She can airdash cancel all of her air normals for better spacing.
Great low/throw game that filia needs meter for.
Her air pokes have tremendous priority when used from backwards jump, just cancel into forward airdash to turn your high priority defense into offense, call an assist anytime during this to pump up the pressure.
Protect assists well with ground shuriken or air savage bypass xx scalpels if the opponent is hitting your assist.
Extrememly safe hitconfirm.
Can get higher than any other character in the air and call assists (even if YOU dont know how to cheese this up, its still a great tactic for her to use)
Probably the best character in the game at turning extremely evasive movement into offense before she ever lands (which makes the tactic very fast)

I suggest watching some euro izzmo games, or even some Clarence Mage games... Actually i think there are some vids of me playing against Clarence uploaded on my channel... Just google dime_x vs Clarencemage... Probably.

yo dude backdash cancelled into instant forward dash press buttons is a godlike air option that no one else has.

Dropping Val for good; finally done trying to win games with that shitty fucking character.

Dunno who I'm going to pick up to replace her. I'm either waiting for Eliza, or picking up Band for the middle position; not certain which is a better idea. Parasoul is definitely better on point as is Eliza from what I've heard, but at the same time, Band is also a really damn bad character, so...

If you only care about winning, team peacock big band double would be something to learn. If you actually enjoy the game, pick characters you like not just to win

1. Let Cynical make a Tier list
2. :HCB:
3. Real one got?
These are English words, but I have no idea what any of this means.

He's saying that if you were to make a tier list, we could use that to determine the game's actual tier list by turning the list upside-down (bottom tier becomes top tier and vice versa).

I haven't played you in a while but I think I've played cloudking and outlaw_spike enough to know that Val isn't low tier. Either that or I am horrible at this game. And regardless of what tier people put BB in, he's certainly not "damn bad."

Outlaw Spike winning with Val has nothing to do with Val being good; if he switched to Bella, it would take him about 10 minutes of practice (probably less) to hit a point where I'd never be able to take a game from him again.

I don't know how PW is relevant, but she's somewhere in the middle. Not really an option for me, though; I don't have the execution skills to play her.

peacock would be low tier without scrubby assist macro abuse true

Nah it's not hard to hold down MP with your middle finger then hit LP+MK with your index and thumb or MK+HP with your thumb and ring. You don't need any macros to play Peacock.

I need that thumb to jump though

Oh if you play on pad idk what you do.
"Thumb to Jump" sounds more like Hitbox.

I hold MP Doom with my Ringfinger and call assist with LP(index)+MK(middle).
Is pretty annoying to call A2 this way, though :(
I do secret trix of switching the Doom finger to middle and then call with MK(index)+HP(ring)

Hitbox is the same thing as stick, though, the thing I said would still work

I have my R1 button as all three punches, I can dash and super regardless of what item drop I'm holding. My R2 is my assist button and is lp+mk so I can use it while rushing in with M item on hold. As for trios..... i'm learning to use Right analog stick down for assist 2.
Does that answer the question I skimmed over because I wasn't really paying attention.

But yeah, swapping out the R shoulder buttons with the L ones when I first started playing this game might have been a great benefit to me now that I think about it.

After tonight's session, my stick is now in pieces after having been thrown across the room then spiked into the floor in utter rage.

So fucking frustrated with this shit. I've been wasting my time for over 600 fucking hours, and I've seen no improvements at all for over 400 of that.

... I dont know what to say about that other than maybe you shouldn't play sg if its stick throw inducing.

In other news I'm going to start learning val,as a side character since i have my main painwheel team all shored up.

But i wont be using team duck, I'll be using val/para/dubs for a different version of team duck.. dime style.

Time to see what this "shitty" character can do. Wish me luck.

yawn... if you were to take a chill pill and stuff you might be able to see some things that could be improved upon. Like your neutral game. But then again you might not want to take my advice because I don't even play the game half seriously. But dude smashing your stick and stuff is not good. take a break if need be. just keep calm and stay fresh.

Take a break, dude. Walk away. It's not worth that.

Well, at least a three-day break is forced, since the stick I just ordered is projected to come in on Thursday.

But given that I'm pretty much just coming back from a three week break in the first place... yeah.

If it's still got you that bad, you need to look at your priorities and sort them out.

We all get frustrated sometimes. It's unfortunate that this instance resulted in property damage. :/ Hopefully your living space wasn't too damaged.

You should test your new stick out with some stress-free arcade games on GGPO. I will gladly join you if you want someone to play Metal Slug X or Windjammers with. :)

idk I think if you're at the point of throwing sticks it's time to take a step back and evaluate like, is this game giving you enough to justify what it's taking away. If it's not maybe take a break for a bit, focus on your other interests.

Oh, I can say for certain that the game definitely isn't giving more than it's frustrating, but I really don't have a lot of choice right now but to play enough that I at least keep my muscle memory intact; regional tournament coming up here on Oct 4th, and I promised people I'd go.

God dammit. 30 minute session in total left me thoroughly fucking pissed. Someone with 100 hours in game can perfect me literally at will by simply picking fucking Peacock. I'm seriously considering telling @Krye that I'm not going to the tournament on Sat, fuck this game.

@ 4:27 where's the sniper shot?????

I'd go through the rest of it but honestly it seems like the real problem here is you get like all of your hits by doing jump forward block + call Pillar which is not an effective tactic against Peacock. You may need to learn a second way to hit people.

This Illiad guy isn't bad btw I've lost to him before. I didn't know he only had 100 hours in Skullgirls but this might not be his first fighting game.
