Let's discuss all things Avatar here relating to the new and old series. Be it the shows, comics and even the shitty movie. The new season started last night so let's get the ball rolling.

Finally got around to watching the episode and it was great. I like creepy twin girl and Brolin more as a couple than Korra and Mako. They are great together. I like that the new Bumi inherited the insanity of his namesake. I hope to see more of him as he seems like a fun character.

Fucking Korra's uncle bring the crusade with him. I had a feeling he'll turn out to be zealot.

I got into Avatar because I was hearing bad things about the movie when it was new and how much they changed from the show. Got curious and decided to watch it on Netflix, and it blew me away.

I also liked book 1 of Korra, but I missed the premiere of book 2. I'll have to catch up later.

So far I'm a bit disappointed with the plot of season 2.

Don't know if I even need to spoiler but
I can't understand why they made the uncle so obvious badguy. He basically had a huge "I'M THE BAD GUY IN CASE YOU DIDN'T ALREADY NOTICE" -sign every time he was on screen. Could've made it at least a little bit subtle :(

I hope they have some insane twist in their back pocket that I'm just failing to see, I don't see how they can salvage that.

At least we got pretty bending scenes!

Alright, let's go!
Saw Last Airbender Season 2 (Last half of it), and all of Season 3. Loved it

Saw ALL of Legend of Korra so far, love it just as much.
Season 2's plot so far is pretty good, I think it could be great so far.
Loving those friggin' Twins though

TLA:Amazing
LoK S1:Pretty good
LoK S2: So far it's okay. I like this business man guy, and I like the twins, and hope they stay.
However, Korra has been a bit of a bitch in the first 2 episodes, and Mako seems more pointless than he did season 1. I'm also curious about what happened with Asami; after the business man scene she was just gone.

Wowww, I must have been in a fight with an earthbender! Somehow I was under a big enough rock to not know that Korra season 2 had started!!! I had to stay up late last night to catch up.

I've had a lot of fun watching Avatar over the years. The show caught me off guard when it first came out, and it wasn't until I noticed the sync'ed up mouth movements that I realized it was something actually made for US television. They've done a great job balancing the action, storytelling, and culture behind their characters, and I think the show is another reminder of the great work that can be done when different parts of the world collaborate (the same's been true for DC Animation).

So who are everyone's favorite characters? For the whole Avatar universe, mine are still Katara, Iroh, Toph, and Appa (of course). I was surprised how much I warmed up to Tenzin in Korra Season 1 though, and I'm glad that Season 2 is exploring his character a lot more.

Cabbage man and Seizure man are just some of the little things in this series that makes the work so enjoyable to watch.

I need to hit up that graphic novel too eventually.

Toph is my undisputed favorite character. You could legitimately make fun of her for being blind and it wouldn't be offensive.

ATLA: Fuck yes, you will forever be my favourite cartoon and a source of motivation. 11/10 would bend
LoK S1: Pretty damn good. I was hyped as fuck for the majority of it and the speculation was insanely fun. Only problem was that it moved so fast and was rather short. 8/10 pretty good.
LoK S2: What the fuck. This is extremely disappointing. They're spending more time on petty relationship shit and repeating over and over the conflict in the South, Uncle's OBVIOUSLY a bad guy(not the good kind of obvious) and shit's so spaced out I have a hard time really comprehending what direction they're taking each episode in. I can't overstate my dissatisfaction with this season so far. It has not built any hype in me whatsoever. What were you thinking Bryke? WHAT WERE YOU THINKING? 4/10 it better get fucking better.

So yeah, holy fuck... I REEEEALLY miss Sokka. Bolin just doesn't fill the funny guy role as Sokka does. Sad faic...

I love TLA too, but I like that LoK is setting itself apart by dealing with more political and relationship issues. I agree that the pacing in Season 2 feels a bit jumbled with all of the different conflicts though. I actually get the vibe that I'm going to empathize with Unalaq more than Varrick by the time the season is over.

Speaking of conflicts, it's funny that Aang and Korra are almost better fits for each other's storylines. Korra would have torn through much of the Fire Nation with her natural talent and aggression, and even as a kid, Aang would probably have handled these political and spiritual problems pretty quickly. It's tough to watch Korra degrade into such a jerk right now, but I'm interested to watch how she matures into a real Avatar. Who knows, it could become one of the better character arcs in the series.

And even if this season turns out to be a modest disappointment, at least we'll still have this:

No one will EVER replace Sokka, he wasn't just a comic relief, he was the damn LEADER of Team Avatar.

He was an amazing character and Bolin just isn't up to snuff to fill his shoes. I feel that Asami could do that, but judging from the comments here so far it seems like the writers forgot about her. I'll catch up with the show soon, but I really hope the writers aren't screwing everything up.

The humor was certainly lacking in S1, but if you don't think the humor is good by episode 5 of season 2, I don't know what to say. That episode wasn't even a great episode plot-wise, despite it trying to be, but it was hilarious.

If you really miss Sokka though...

I'm not going to say that Bolin isn't funny, because he freaking is. Like the trial part. I laughed my ass off at his face in this scene.

So I'm all caught up on Korra now. I'm enjoying it so far.

A common criticism of the show that I've been seeing is of Korra herself. Particularly that she's a brat who treats her friends poorly and that she tries to solve most of her problems with brute force. Personally I don't have much of a problem with her having those traits for now, since I feel that as the show goes on she's going to develop out of them.

And I'm just going to assume that her getting eaten by that spirit last week is how she will wind up in the spirit realm.

This makes me uncomfortable. XD

I've also been following discussions on the new season, and it's pretty interesting. A lot of people are arguing that Korra's "regressed" as a character, but I disagree. I think it was bold of the writers to showcase her weaknesses so prominently this season, and suggest that what she learned in Season 1 really wasn't enough to deal with these new problems. She grew stronger physically, but was hardly tested on her leadership skills.

Also, I think people underestimate how sensitive someone can be when their family or homeland are threatened. Korra's fits of rage are off-putting, but still very believable. I actually think a lot of us would end up like her if we were in her shoes and had her kind of power. Even Aang was heavily tested at times, and he was much more in tune with his emotions than the average kid.

I'm also willing to believe that the writers want us to dislike Korra for the time being, so that we'll turn away from her and be more invested in what some of the other characters are doing. I've certainly found myself more attached to Mako and Tenzin's kids than I was in Season 1, and that feels intentional. I just hope the rest of the season manages to build Korra back up into a cool person again.

Just watched episode 6.
My reaction: WHYYYYYYYY?!??!?!
So, Varrick is evil, Bolin is an asshole, more love triangles, and Korra has amnesia. It's like they're going out of their way to make me hate this show. I just can't see them turning all these terrible plot devices into something good. The only good thing I can see coming out of this is Korra being less of a bitch due to amnesia. I was waiting to say "best episode yet. Because Korra wasn't in it", but no, this was awful.

There are no good guys in this series. No good guys at all.

The only thing I liked about this episode was the ONE part where Mako has the realization when Bolin's doing his explosion scene. That was an awesome moment right there. Other than that, fuck Verrick, fuck Unaloq, fuck crazy twins, fuck platinum robots, this shit sucks right now.

The last 2 minutes were amazing, absolutely brilliant.

The last 10 second made me want to kill myself.

They get one more chance to earn back my love.

Did anyone else find the latest episode really good?
I guess there's no surprise since they were talking about actual Avatar stuff and not about every character having a fit over minor things but then keeping big important things to themselves. Also the lack of Mako was definitely a bonus.

IMO the last episode made a more interesting character than all of the characters so far in season 2 in only one episode. The art style they did for it was really cool too. It reminded me of those asian paintings and Wind Waker clouds/breezes.

Episode 7:
Probably the best episode yet. Wan's story is so much more interesting than Korra's. Why didn't they just make the legend of Wan?
Though I think I can already see where this is going. There are 4 lion turtles, each with one element, he has to get all 4 to stop Vati.

Edit: Didn't realize episode 8 came out too. Basically more of 7, only better. Let's keep this up Legend of Korra, don't go back to the typical crap.

99.9% of 7 and 8 were amazing. The last .1% of 8 made me want to cry. FOR FUCKS SAKE READ THE RULES. SHOW DON'T TELL. SHOW. DON'T. TELL.

But other than that, the lore was a seriously needed addition to the world. I LOVE this type of lore for stories I enjoy so this was a definite plus. Korra has regained much of my trust, but I have a feeling that the finale will have to be PERFECT in order for me to care about book 3. I refuse to be spurned yet again.

Also rothy, I disagree. You can make that "argument" for literally everything ever. Complaining without reason or with malicious intent is bad. Discussing points we dislike or faults of the show is fine. Your sentiments are worse than the people who complain for no reason, because even in their ranting and raving they might accidentally say something interesting. Silencing discussion can never be interesting.

tbh I have trouble understanding what people dislike about the show or Korra herself, they are both v good things.

Firebenders fuck everything up. A firebender caused the world to become unbalanced. Firebenders indiscriminately attack spirits. It's like everything that's wrong with the world could be trace back to a firebender.

It looks like the people on the lion turtles are influenced by that element, and fire destroys so it kinda makes sense. Though the whole unbalancing thing was an accident.

There's also the fact they get super fucking charged every 100 or so years.

I'm actually not sure that Sozin's Comet existed for the entirety of forever...

But hooooooly shit guys! This latest two-parter is the kind of shit I'm TALKIN ABOUT! I fucking LOVED that shit! I'm sorry I didn't get around to seeing it on time and all this hype is super late, but that was an amazing origin story. This has rekindled my passion in life. Seeing Wan be so determined to do good just blows my mind. That's the exact kind of thing I want out of this life. Of course, giant turtles and almighty spirits might never happen, but that kind of courage and passion is timeless and last for an eternity.

Bring it on world. Let's go.

These new episodes were a great change of pace. It's just too bad we have to wait an extra week to find out what happens next.

Craaaazy theory time!
So with Vaatu in the picture, a lot of people are speculating that there could be an "Anti-Avatar." Immediately Unalaq seems to be the prime candidate for this, but I have my doubts. Unalaq still wants to keep Korra/Raava alive, which would logically just weaken Vaatu's powers. It's possible that Unalaq's actions are really just a desperate effort to strengthen Raava's powers for the big fight. He feels that he doesn't need Korra, but he does need Raava.

So that brings me to Varrick. Vaatu is a spirit of chaos, and right now the one actually instigating the most chaos is Varrick. Could Varrick actually be the one responsible for the evil spirits? Might he have somehow made a deal with Vaatu in order to gain his wealth and power? That might explain how he's been able to keep his shipping business going, despite the rise in evil spirits!

You're really reaching for it there.

However, you're right about the immediate thought of an "Anti-Avatar" who rather than uses the positive forms of spiritual energy (the 4 elements) uses dark spirit energy (HYPER BEAM BWAAAAH). And much like Raava became one with Wan, Vaatu will most likely forcibly take the body from a human and be eternally able to walk about the human realm causing chaos and spiritual disharmony. Likely Unaaloq because he seems to think he knows how to control spirits and likely looks to be a "Master" of Vaatu. That shit never works, why do they keep falling for that shit? You're pretty powerful but come on man let's be real here, you're not going to tame the spirit of chaos and disharmony. Dumm

The latest eps were great, finally something avatar-worthy. I just hope Korra's enlightenment fixed her plot-induced stupidity.

Found this last night... Makes you really feel bad for Asami. SPOILERS!

And that's why I didn't mind Asami stealing that kiss from Mako, because she was just a human who was truly at the end of her rope.

Buuuuuut, we'll have to wait another week to find out if anything happens...
