Squigly Valentine Big Band
So um yeah, hi.

Like I said in the into thread I'm brand new to this game and fighters in general. However i'm enjoying it so far. I picked up this gamepad in order to play it competently and it's been working pretty well for me so far.

Things I need to improve on:
-Consistent button inputs (The z-shaped ones always mess me up, and sometimes I'll try to do a super and it won't work)
-Legitimate combos (I've seen the compendium, and I'll need to practice some of those)
-Practicing against actual people (I've played Arcade up to Medium so far. Going to try Hard tomorrow if I have time. I joined the Get Good group on Steam, and I would have gotten a chance to play today if they weren't having their monthly tournament)
-Learning block patterns and such (I think this is one of my bigger weak points in this game. I can't really perform mixups well and I have a tough time defending against them)
-Not being terrible

So yeah, I'm going to make this into my progress thread. Hopefully I'll improve eventually.

Welcome to the game & genre. It can be tough at first when starting something new, but if you enjoy it just go at your own pace, have fun & keep learning.

Thanks for the warm welcome :)

I figured the best way to get advice would be to upload a video of me playing, so here:

(this is against hard-level AI, btw)

Okay so I've been practicing Painwheel recently and I gotta say, I feel like I could use her pretty well. Of course I'm terrible so who knows. :V

I'm able to beat Hard Arcade fairly easily now, I think I'll move on to Very Hard tomorrow. Once I can clear that consistently I think I might go online and see how I can learn from there.

I'd still like feedback on the gameplay in my video, though.

zomg I won an online match! My Squigly/Valentine against a solo Filia. Of course I also got bodied pretty hard against some other guys :V

Still, I think I'm definitely showing improvement. One of the other guys in the lobby showed off a pretty impressive Squigly combo I want to try out, so I'll need to practice that.

Hello new player!
You seem to already understand what you need to work on, but here are some steps anyway. You should make sure to:
-complete the tutorial in its entirety if you haven't done so yet. It will instill important fundamentals in you.
-start learning what your desired character(s) moves are. If you learn what each input is, you should next learn what each does, which will help your ability to play better
-make (or find) a simple combo that you can do consistently
-make sure to have fun!

Quick viewing of the video; you seem to convert most things into sweeps. You should probably find other ways to end combos, like with supers or something.
