Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night

Can we talk about Bloodlines?

Maybe it's just the genesis fanboy in me but there is something about this one that I really like. I think the soundtrack is really good too! Probably my second or third favorite (after Aria of Sorrow and CV1). Plus the boss fights are pretty good compared to most of the earlier castlevania games.

Glad you bring it up! My second favorite Castlevania after Akumajo Dracula x68!

What I love about it is how aggressive it is. You're incredibly rewarded for tearing bosses to shreds with quick attack strings and up close and personal strategies.

An example: Here's a video I made showcasing some of my strats against bosses, for a forum convo on my favorite thread on the entirety of the internet

Still though, as much as I like it, the best for me will always be Akumajo Dracula x68/Castlevania Chronicles (not sure if the Chronicles version was nerfed or not though, I know the arrange mode is). The game was designed by one of the dudes from Treasure IIRC, and it shows. The most devious, best paced, and brilliant level design in the franchise. Dealing with its creative and unpredictable enemies just never gets old.

Okay, a Classicvania mode IS a pretty great stretch goal, and they threw in "early bird" achievement points, so I was somewhat wrong about this, though I'd argue that it's still not great.

Really hoping it hits this, will even chip in what I can.

were at 2.5 million omg how can these stretch goals get better than the classic mode thing

pledged 60 bucks on this thing.
can you imagine one of the tiers being
"yo, we gonna just straight up dump money on George Kamitani's desk and tell him he's ours"
GIMME THE GEORGE KAMITANI TIER YOU MAGNIFICENT BASTARDS!

Jake Kaufman is composing a chiptune soundtrack for the game. Good shit.

I'm cautiously optimistic about Classic Mode, now that we have it.

Iga's games were moving in the way of more action emphasis ever since the DS games. Dawn was way harder than any of his GBA games (note COTM wasn't by him or his team) and Symphony, and Portrait and Eclessia both experimented with semi-linear stages and more combat emphasis.

The hidden "Training Hall" area in Eclessia was an incredible proof of concept on how well intense platforming based on environmental hazards could work with the series control scheme, and it was nothing more than more Square rooms but with some extra hazards and traps copy and pasted in from elsewhere in the game. It basically shows that all you have to do is copy some spikes on floors and swinging blades on ceilings and you have a satisfying action platformer.

Since Classic mode will just be cheap CTRL C - CTRL V art assets and level designs, like Training Hall, I think the only reason to think it'll suffer from being more boring "rectangular rooms with enemies" will be if Iga or Inti just put no thought into it whatsoever. Since Iga's games were moving in a more action oriented direction for 3 games straight, and Inti's staff brought us the Mega Man Zero and ZX series, I think it's not a stretch to say that we'll at least be getting some rudimentary level designs that make it a satisfying romp.

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the regular Metroidvania mode has a greater emphasis on platforming as well, though that's a bit more of a stretch considering how huge it'll be.

By the way... is not better create a Bloodstained topic?

Well, the giant IGA castle goal has been funded, and so the next stretch goal has been revealed. If the game hits 3 million dollars in funding, Armature Studio will come on board to create a Wii U port of Bloodstained. They've been responsible for several recent ports and remasters, so I think the Wii U version is in good hands if/when the goal is met.

I saw the demon stuff from the updates and reading the Buer entry all I could think was

"Why doesn't Painwheel have any lion themed moves?" >:3

anyway, the Kojima news sounds really neat.

For those of you who wanted Kojima on board (and why wouldn't you?) she is doing the limited slipcase are but only if you are $100 or above tier, $60 slipcases don't get art. ;_;

Was hoping a Vita port would be attached to the Wii-U one, but sadly not the case. Glad to see this is coming along so well though, a large game, classic mode and co-op are all rather exciting and a Wii-U port means whatever number of people who for some reason don't own a PC but a Wii-U aren't left out.

Well gonna fund this when I get paid soon especially with a Vita port [hope they get a physical too] stretch goal in the near horizon. I really enjoy these type of games more on handhelds. Hopefully not a disappointment unlike other projects I threw money at.

Also surprised the Bloodstained topic wasn't a separate thread. I mean keeping it here still sort of works, but if you want I could just separate all the Bloodstained related posts and move to an entire new thread.

Glad I've never backed any mega-disappointing projects. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) unlike Shantae.
And kickstarter doesn't charge until after the time has passed, so you can always pledge before you get paid.
Just be careful and make sure you'll get the money.

Neat. We need original Dracula though.
Get that good ol' fashioned "WHAT IS A MAN?! A MISERABLE LITTLE PILE OF SECRETS!"

Pledged 300 bucks. ... I wanted signatures. -_-

I heavily debated whether I wanted a map, too. :V

you joining the order of the zaibatsu?

Oh man, how am I supposed to choose between Knight and Goofball!?

I'm hoping this is all just a big stunt to get everyone excited. They said the game will have multiple familiars anyway, so unless one design gets no votes at all, I wouldn't be surprised if they all make it in after the fans show their support. I'd really hate for this to become another Call vote!

I voted for Goofball. I think he's cute, and would make a great goofy sidekick. Bonus points if he has some silly voice overs like the SOTN familiars.

I wonder if there will be much of a push for the orchestrated tracks, as things are standing we're definitely getting a Vita port, not sure about that though unless something changes.

yo, I hope Iga keeps the donations open after the kickstarter ends, because I'm gonna wanna upgrade to the 100 dollar tier.

The shaded goal look like VS to anyone else?

No clue. Looks like 2 letters to me and those were the first that came to mind. Not claiming it makes much sense because VS would most likely be a versus mode, which I don't see being the case.

I thought that it did get mentioned somewhere, but I couldn't find it again so I thought I imagined it.

Still, I don't know what that would look like. Has that been done before?

They also had an actual fighting game but it sucked. The soundtrack was really solid, though.

ah yes the classical re imagining of every castlevania lady but with giant anime tiddys (except for Maria) a classic

ya, they were ugly

I like dudes.

A Castlevania fighting game sounds like a great idea that would probably never be made by someone who can actually make fighting games. I'm unfamiliar with the one you're referring to, had only played the classic style games and Symphony until recently.
