Castlevania

Rapier Clan for life.

Jesus Christ.

honestly if you made a game with a tagline like "High Speed Erotic Violence"
i'd be pretty into it

Trailer

Real trailer starts at 0:41

Art style actually looks like a nice stylistic compromise between east and west, old nes macho cv and Ayami era pretty boy cv. I can dig it.

Fingers crossed that this'll be a solid adaptation!

For those who haven't been following, comic writer Warren Ellis is writing this, so it's at least in the hands of someone with experience with these sort of stories.

Fingers crossed

I am legitimately surprised by the lack of negative feelings I have about the trailer. Hopefully I feel the same about the show.

What has Ellis done in this vein? To me he's just the guy who wrote Transmetropolitan and does an amusing Alan Moore.

I'm not impressed but it probably won't suck super hard unless it just shits the bed that bad

Anticipating boring orchestrated versions of Bloody Tears and Vampire Killer

He's done a lot of comics, most of which I'm only passingly familiar with, but that's at least some grasp of the fantastical pop entertainment thing.

That would infuriate considerably less than Lord of Shadows doing boring orchestral shit without even referencing any old CV tunes. But don't get me started on that shit.

okay but how about making a video game?

Maybe I haven't played enough CV, but making Vampire Killer boring kind of sounds like an accomplishment to me.

I mean, they're starting from the good beginning with Trevor Belmont, I think we got to see a sneak peek on some of the characters, like Sypha and Alucard, which gives me hope we get a nice gothic horror action oriented Castlevania series.

I didn't expect to feel optimistic for this show, and even now I'm kind of scared to. When it was first announced, my friend and I were pretty certain they'd end up doing some throwaway CG bit, but stubbornly we still wished for something that resembled Vampire Hunter D. Surprisingly, from the teaser, that actually looks a lot like their inspiration here. I don't know how they managed to get through Konami's nonsense in order to pull this off, but now I'm feeling like it's possible that someone in charge of this thing might actually give a damn about Castlevania.

Speaking of Warren Ellis, the guy's done good character driven stories for a bunch of properties (lot of Marvel stuff, my personal favorite was his work on Nextwave), so with CV3 as the framework, and enough creative freedom, he's definitely capable. If he's invoking his experience from a series like Hellblazer, then a project like this should be relatively straightforward for him as long as plays it well with the storyboards.

Of course, that also depends on what animation studios are working on it. Is it true that what we've seen so far is all from Frederator? That might actually be the bigger surprise from all of this!

Where's Grant? I am disturbed by the lack of Grant in that trailer.

We need multiple seasons covering the most well known games.

Season 1: Dracula's Curse
Season 2: Original game and Simon's Quest
Season 3: Rondo and SotN
Season 4: Aria and Dawn of Sorrow (with flashbacks to the 1999 events because WE NEED IT)

and finally "I'M INTERESTED IN THIS."

I hope that this is based off of the events of the pachinko game.

This is how you do a videogame adaptation.
Great art direction, great animation... I love how it includes a lot of nods to the game without feeling out of place or anything. As a big fan of Castlevania i'm really excited 'w'

Well i watched the whole first season.
It was really great, loved Trevor, a really good mc. Loved the Berserk-ish tone the story had overall, and i like the blend between NES era, SotN and the LoS continuity the show had, while feeling like it's own thing too.

I was however disappointed there was no remixes of classic CV tunes though (even random notes showing up! I don't know...)
And also Grant being absent... Even as a cameo? Weird. Maybe they're keeping him for the next season?

I was reading about all the good reviews of the show and I saw a gif of Alucard using one of his special moves from SotN.

"I'M INTERESTED IN THIS." :PUN:

I want to watch it but I don't want to support Konami. What do?
