Report Change Incoming: Valentine, the Red Cross, and You...

Why not? If Alex picked a colour from random and it turned out to be bright yellow (Or any other odd colour) then does it still invalidate everyone's opinion that it doesn't fit her?
You want to start by positing that we'd pick a color randomly and just go with it?
If you begin from a false premise, your conclusion is false.
For that to be the case, we'd have had to no longer care about the integrity of the work.
Given that I'm here trading stupidity with you it seems like we still care. :^)

The difference between this and Han is that we would not have changed her entire character simply because we didn't like the old one.
If we're forced to choose a new color and that's the color picked, then it fits her because the single person who can authoritatively decide WHAT fits her decided that it does. Fans' opinion of what a character would do does not suddenly become canon and invalidate the creator's decision - that's the bonus of being the creator, the creation is yours. Wolverine x Cyclops is not official no matter how many people wish it were, and conversely Jar Jar Binks really did blow up all those droids accidentally and play the pivotal role he played in the creation of the Empire, as much as I may dislike that.

If someone came to Lucas and said "We're removing all copies of Star Wars from circulation and suing you if Han shoots first" then you know what? "Greedo shot first" would be perfectly acceptable to me, as would "a drunken brawl started and someone hit Greedo over the head with a chair" or even "Greedo suffered from a bout of narcolepsy". In the case that he were forced to change it I wouldn't be able to argue with any new interpretation, no matter how stupid I thought it was or how much I preferred the old one. I'm free to think it's stupid, as you are in this case, but I can't insist that it is "out of character" because that IS now the character.

I ripped some of Vals story mode art out of the game last night (featuring the old red cross) could anyone do the same with the other L0 Valantine art, simply so its preserved for posterity before the change comes in? <-- right now you can find this stuff on the internets

I maintain the view that the new change looks good, as does the decision to keep her eye red. i think L0 guys have done a really good job with this.

@Jake Was Here i'm pretty sure Val already has a palette with that hair colour (#10 i think)

Can we close this thread now? I think all has been said that needed to be said.

I don't feel this needs to be locked.

This is a forum, and its whole point is discussion. Locking threads immediately kills discussion and should be avoided. In this case a lot of the discussion is meaningless as MikeZ and other LabZero members have all chimed in to say that this is the only viable way they can make this edit, but it's still a discussion.

Before you make your comments, remember that Lab Zero have done testing on this, we have not. I am inclined to believe that Alex very much wanted his character to stay as he envisioned her and not have to do this, so any changes he has made are absolutely as close to ideal as he can make them. Alex has been designing these characters for close to a decade now, he will have a far better idea of what he wants the character to look like than any of us ever will.

Anyone discussing the colors in here are free to do so, but they need to be aware that Skullgirls is not a democracy. What you feel is best for the game may not ultimately be what the developers and designers feel is best and often you need to respect those decisions.

Don't feel slighted, or betrayed, or annoyed by decisions you feel are wrong. Discuss them all you want, but you may want to leave your sense of entitlement at the door. We have a very rare opportunity on this forum where the game devs actively participate in our discussions, try not to waste it.

PS, this post is not being directed at BrandX, I'm talking to everyone. He's just here in reference to the locking. :P

You're lying, I'm obviously the victim here. Weeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

But yeah, you are right. People, we can discuss this, but nothing will change. Alex and Lab Zero made their minds up and that's it.

I just don't want this to become a 'sonic's green eyes' for us where it tears the fandom apart, it looks fine in game and it's more beneficial for players since it actually stands out more so no one can say 'I didn't see that!"

Honestly who cares if no one uses the default color anyways ? Why would a color tear apart a whole sence if that's the case I doubt you was a real fan to start with

Really? People are seriously going to be like this? Oh yeah right i forgot this is SH.... nvm. Continue please....

Internet, when people always complains about everything, the decision its final.

So we should focus in better things like.... playing and promoting SG instead of complaing about a swapped color.

I feel its okay to complain a little bit, but you can't argue against the original artist's decisions because in his eyes it looks the best. Besides, her original palette looks nice in the stages and I bet the story colors will look nice too.
Honestly though, everyone does complain on the internet, I mean look at when Google+ took over the Youtube comment section. Every other comment before that was set in stone. People complained, sent angry letters, but as Google did not meet our needs, we got USED TO IT. Esentially being desensitized, in my opinion. But in Skullgirls case, they are not a big corporation, they cant fight against people as old as Red Cross or the Geneva Convention if they want to protect their trademark, so I respect the fuchsia color both in-game and in art.

She looks better in game with the new color. Maybe I'll even pick that color now...
Would like to see what changed with the Parasoul palettes, because I actually did pick those sometimes.

Also changing one color on an outfit does not merit a George Lucas comparison. Holy overreaction, ashxu.

Like mentioned above when Sonic Team and Sega gave sonic green eyes the fandom got torn to pieces over that. Now with his blue arms too the same thing is happening. I dont mind the color change at all even though I prefer default palettes since I don't use Valentine often enough to care and can see the reasoning behind it is just enough to warrant a color change just to be safe and avoid even more issues in the future.

Im not sure if theres any changes there yet since i never use Parasoul either.

Mm, that's a shame. Thanks for keeping us in the loop, though.

Valentine's Red crosses are now Fuchsia? Game is literally unplayable now!

Lame joke aside, I'm okay with this change and I understand why it was needed so I won't really argue about it especially since it's already been submitted. The Color was pretty jarring to me at first but I got used to what it looks like in game. I don't really play as her default Palette, the Nurse Christmas Palette or any of the Parasoul Palettes so this barely affects me anyways.

Mike_Z said earlier in this thread that both of those palettes would have Black Crosses instead of Red ones.

Now that, I find faffy. I suppose it fits the palettes better, but I find myself questioning why an inverted cross (That looks more like a "t" than a cross) would incite copyright. Eh. I'm no lawyer, I guess.

If you're going to be a piece of shit then at least attempt to write up some reasoning for doing so.

I'd rather people with bad arguments than people discouraging people posting by saying "haha typical SH!!" "lock this thread everyone is jus bein dumb" "itt: x"

For anybody making the comparison to Sonic's green eyes/blue arms you're forgetting that Sega never cared what Sonic fans thought anyway, and in this case it's not like Lab Zero had a choice but to change the color -- they didn't want to do it, either.

Esentially being desensitized, in my opinion.
The last thing i want to do is be desensitized to evil. We can forgive, but we can never forget the black taint (or in this case pink taint) that has been smeared on our beloved game because of an insidious government.

Let's get a tad more real here ok?

The color WORKS. Saves lab zero from a legal nightmare, can be implemented easily enough not to ruin their development schedule, and the most important: IT WORKS WELL IN THE GAME.

while the alternate palettes change it wildly, this one should be the most functional in that regard.

Black crosses would be harder to see in lab 8 stage, white ones would suffer a similar problem in class notes stage, for example. The same goes for some too dark/light tones

Really dark orange is pretty close to red, and could feel even more off than pink.
Blue or certain shades of green, gray or white would make Val too bland and hurt her design.

If you think about it, it's a good choice, really. The reason to change isn't good, but the team did a darn fine job with it.

I can't help but hope that people weren't referencing Project Runway.

I'm not sure I could care less about this...

Fixed.^^
Four. I use the default palettes every now and then. (.__.)
On the bright side, we got enough people to get that riot going. :3

It's disappointing but a necessary concession. That said, it was very considerate of Ravidrath and Mike_Z to give us the heads up and respond to our opinions on the subject.
As usual, the misquoted wisdom of Abraham Lincoln comes to mind: You can please some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not please all of the people all of the time.

One day, the original Valentine frames from the Compendium will be a collector's item that is worth a :PUN:

I hate when people beat me to the default palettes.

I think it looks nice

Just finished recoloring all my old Valentine fanart. It's the least I can do to support Lab Zero during this crisis.
Worth noting we didn't recolor the pic where she's out of uniform in black, with red crosses on the black. I sort of assume it's just the uniform ones that are different (and that she had a fit when her work made her change it, like fast food places asking people to shave or whatever), so you probably didn't have to recolor the hearts.

And no, doesn't apply to Haruko.

Read the thread. A thing I wish I didn't have to say.

Ah, okay then, I'll keep that in mind for new fanarts.

With that "Cross looks like a plus on a whiteish background on some frames" it started to feel like that Candy Crush fiasco all over again...

So I decided to put my money where my mouth was and work my Photoshop majicks on a screencap of Ileum to make her crosses green, and whatdya know, it doesn't look half bad.

Maybe this could be her look whenever she ends up being playable or somethin'.

I'm colorblind, so this literally makes no difference at all to me.

Then again

I'm colorblind.
