So i make this thread partly because i got the idea on browsing /lzg/ (yes i'm sorry) and there is a chart of characters they sometimes update and such. Who will make it in the final game? Who will end up unplayable?

First there's this from the Lab Zero website

"one of the major pre-production tasks was paring down the roster to fit in our schedule, and evaluating it as a whole for gameplay purposes. And because the characters were drawn by differents artists, we also needed to refine the designs and unify their style.

Before you worry about your favorite character, fear not: Indivisible will still have at least 25 playable Incarnations in the final game, not including guest characters. And we will repurpose any cut characters into NPCs or Inner Realm Incarnations whenever possible."

So, so far, we've got 22 revealed incarnations (not counting Ajna and her Heruka form that might count as a different character)
>Zebei, Tungar, Razmi, Dhar, Ginseng & Honey, Qadira, Baozhai, Phoebe, Latigo (was Vasco for a while, now Vasco is confirmed to be a NPC), Ren, Naga Rider, Yan, Nuna, Thorani, Lanshi, Sangmu, Leilani, Kampan, Zahra, Kushi & Altun, Hunoch & Xiboch (replacing Tenoch from the campaign) and Antoine
h72BbnK.jpg

So we have all those guys confirmed.
Plus there will be one (or two?) backer-exclusive incarnation too.
A bard was mentionned in one of Peter's interviews so i want to say we might have either Zahra or Tatanka since they fit the description. EDIT: Zahra confirmed
Then I don't really know for the rest, who could end up unplayable?

According to Ravi, we've got 25 playable Incarnations.
I'd admit myself than some characters revealed during the campaign were less exciting than others so i'm not too worried about cuts (better this than a bloated roaster full of one-note and useless characters like Chrono Cross or the identical mages in Valkyrie Profile).

I do wonder however if the trend will go on... Will Kampan get some *farnsworth voice* SCIENCE abilities from Hassan? Will Leilani throw knives? We'll see 'w'

EDIT: So after AX 2018, we got all those guys confirmed. 22 characters + 3 backer submitted characters that weren't shown yet.
And we also got the guest characters coming next!

Edited original post to add Naga Rider !

Apologizing for the double post but there's also that (very blurry) pic where we can spot the game's Incarnations and possibly at which moment in game they will appear.

MBStO1M.png

For example, we can spot Dhar, Razmi and what appears to be Ginseng & Honey at the top left which goes with how it was said Dhar would be your first party member to join.
However there's also to note they all use the artwork they had during the campaign (ie Vasco is still in his white cowboy getup) so obviously the information here might end outdated and maybe some characters featured here won't be playable after all (but still might appear in story regardless)
At the bottom we see a bunch of characters who i assume are either optional Incarnations or characters L0 don't know yet where to fit in the main story.

I did a mockup of what we can see so it's easier to see what's on the pic (forgive my terrible Paint skills.)

koqloS0.png

On a same note we can spot several unrevealed characters so i don't know if they're still up, and who are secret characters or which is the backer Incarnation.

Note that that board is very old and no longer has relevance to our current production. We now use it to cover up the window.
Feel free to speculate, though!

That's what I thought. Thanks for the confirmation though 'w'
That is one way of covering a window too I guess :^)

I do wonder what is still topical on it (if there's still something left) and if the unknown characters we can still get a peek of are still around or not.

So uh, amongst who was not shown yet in the actual game, who do you think is gonna be playable? Who will be not?

We're all ignoring the real question:

WHAT IS IN THE WINDOW THAT NEEDS TO BE COVERED!? What secrets are they trying to hide? What new developments will come to light? Why are they keeping us in the dark? Lab Zero Illuminati confirmed.

This topic is a pretty heavy one. We're getting to the point now where every new reveal probably means someone else is kicked off the list, which is rough for any fans of the less popular characters. Obviously we know LabZero is working hard to make as full a roster as possible though, so we'll see what they can pull off.

For the remaining unrevealed characters, I think we already had confirmations from Mike and Peter that Sangmu and Lanshi were going to be in. The screenshot of that second board Shan posted seemed to suggest that too.

I'm also pretty sure I saw someone that looked like Kampan on that board, and that's no surprise. Kampan and Phoebe were pretty much the most popular Incarnations from the IGG. I bet Kampan's mech-arm is getting a few tweaks though, or maybe overhauled with different functions depending on the gameplay style they need from her.

On that note, even though we know the roster is now slightly reduced, I really appreciate how diverse the revealed characters' playstyles have been so far. While some people don't like the aesthetic changes, many of the changes still reflect a strong focus on each characters' unique traits that they bring to the team, and even remove some arguable redundancies in the original lineup. I really can't wait to try them all out.

Here's the pic btw

According to Ravi we'll get 24 playable characters... We can see 21 on the main part + 3 at the bottom, so i guess that's our backer incarnations right? Plus characters at the right and the very bottom who i assume might be NPC incarnations.
I also edited the first post of the thread with the info shown at AX.

Well you brought this up in another thread, but I figured that I'd might as well add it here. But in this article here, Peter mentions a bard character: http://www.hardcoregamer.com/2017/0...-platforming-with-rpgs-in-indivisible/261908/

Based on the incarnation list we have, that's probably Zahra. But who knows, maybe it's Tatanka with his drum.

Speaking of which, I do hope that Tatanka makes the cut as a playable incarnation.

I forgot about this, thanks for telling me!

Tatanka was one of my favorite designs but yeah so far it doesn't look too likely for him... I did like the dynamic he have with his evil spirit too.

I mean he surely will be.
But playable? That's the big question, haha.

tbh i'm really happy because pretty much everyone i loved during the campaign is confirmed. But still i liked some guys like Tatanka and Leilani, hahah :'^)

Well right now I suppose we can hazard a guess at the ones who are likely to not be playable.

With the addition of Honey & Ginseng, there are a total of 29 incarnations. In regards to how many will be playable, two numbers have been thrown out from LabZero; the 18th Jan update on the LabZero website states that there will be at least 25 playable incarnations excluding guest characters, and Peter has made a post on this forum stating that there will be 24. So there may be more than 25 if we're being optimistic, , or we can be more pessimistic and say that there will be 24.

Let's just say there will be 24. So out of the 29 incarnations we know of, 5 might not make it into the playable cast.

I believe that someone in LabZero has said that if the incarnation was popular, we need not worry about their status. So let's work on the assumption that the converse may be true.

Based on what I've seen of the fan reaction (which may be inaccurate of course), Antoine was seriously unpopular, George's reception was not very positive, and Kaldi did not get received that well. So from my point of view, these three are the most at risk.

I prefer to start with 24 myself since it's the last number given. And I also still don't know if that includes the backer incarnations... I'd like a clarification if that doesn't fall into NDA. Is the 24 characters thing just the core cast or core cast+backer incarnations?

EDIT : I realize it probably refers to the core cast.

Yeah from what i remember they didn't left a big impression... People were already thinking Kaldi would be better as a NPC.
So far, we got all the fan favorites confirmed (and the biggest redesigns according to Peter were shown already) so I guess the worst-("ish"?) is over.

Where is my cute chainsword-swinging priestess!?

Ok so the two boys I like are confirmed... Kampan's possibly confirmed...
//wAITS LOUDLY FOR SANGMU

WOWEE--
Can't wait to see her final form--

I'm going to be sad if Kaldi doesn't make it, he looked cool and I liked his knives.

Otherwise the only ones left I'm particularly hoping for are Sangmu, Toko, Zahra and Kushi. Mike said during the campaign Sangmu would be playable and that'd he was excited for her so she's probably a lock, Peter mentioned a bard character in an interview recently so Zahra is probably good, Toko as far as I remember was decently liked? And honestly her design is already pretty simple. Which leaves Kushi, who I think was mentioned in gameplay terms at some point during the campaign but I might be misremembering. She was somewhat popular at least if I recall.

God I can't wait to see Sangmu animated, that stuff is going to be fantastic.

Same same! That'll be aMAZING

All right, figured I'd jump back on this topic for a bit since we got some downtime.

I agree with others here that a bunch of male members have probably been on the "cutting block" due to lack of popularity. Most notably I'd assume George, Kaldi, Antoine, and Hassam from what I've seen.

I'm a big Kaldi fan too, but a while ago I had to admit that, even as a personality, he didn't seem crucial for a combat role (New Vasco honestly put me a bit at ease here since parts of him reminded me a little of Kaldi, like his lanky build and low-key expression). I think Kaldi has a good chance as an NPC either way, but if he doesn't get to fight, then I hope an homage to his style of daggers might show up on one of the other characters somewhere.

I'm going to go on a limb though, and say that of the less popular group, George is either firmly making it in, or is a high-priority wishlist. The biggest reason I figure, is because he was one of the few proposed Incarnations coming from the Iron Kingdom, which might be an even more important trait now if Vasco is assuming parts of Antoine's role too. George was also one of the only proposed spear users, which is a major point for gameplay, and his cultural inspirations and backstory still left a lot of visual interpretations open for Lab Zero to build around. They could make him younger or older, give him different armor, make him more steampunk-ish, or turn him into more of a frontiersman, and all of those approaches could still fit his intended role perfectly.

I just think with his combination of unique traits and visual malleability, it's harder to take George off the table than some of the other concepts. In retrospect, I think even Old Vasco seemed more limited by comparison.

But hey, as always, we'll have to see how things turn out!

George
I loved George, but mostly for his backstory. Design wise, IIRC he pretty much just looked like a knight. Seeing him incorporated into Scottish golfer samurai would be fine by me.

Hm, there's a thought, since it looks like Lab Zero wants to save effort/cut down on characters, perhaps "fusing" Incarnations would be the way to go? IE "Vasco + Antoine = New! Vasco."

Myself i'd see Antoine, Kaldi, either Kogi or Tatanka and maybe Kushi or Leilani not making it as a playable character.

Antoine because of points already said, like Vasco seems to have inherited the fencing-like fighting style he could have got?
Kaldi because yeah, to me he was probably the most boring character (though i guess plainess can be appealing sometimes, just look at how Adam got popular somehow), i did like his character but yeah, i think he'd be better as a npc... Unless he gets a very flattering redesign or something.

I'd like Kogi to be playable because i quite liked his character+design... He kinda reminded me of Beowulf somehow... Tatanka kinda fills that big dude role too so... Hmm, unsure if both will make it.

I love Kushi and Leilani but i kinda feel like Indivisible has quite a bunch of young looking girls as characters (our very Ajna, Ginseng, Nuna, Kampan) so i wouldn't be surprised if one of them ended up being cut.
I'd prefer if it was Leilani because I love Kushi's design and her duo with Altun. They could have fun interactions with Ginseng and Honey (plus if i remember she was one of Mike and Peter's fave characters right)

I think George will make it, he is from the North region right, it'd make more variety in the cast, plus i liked his character. I agree his design was a bit on the bland side. I did love the dragon scarf thing though.
Imagine if he comes back and ends up looking like his namesake from the concept art from Skullgirls though. :o

index.php

Oh and yeah! Toko, i liked her backstory and design and i'd be pretty happy if she stays in. Always thought she'd have some quickdraw moves like Hibiki in TLB2

So I spent A LOT of time looking over that chart @Shan posted, and put up some of the characters next to the images to see what lined up, as well as speculate on who made it. Again, we don't know if this has been updated, changed etc. and is just being looked at for the sake of speculation!

3E6aCZ2.jpg

Write up of the chart:
Row one First box (Ajna's home village / village adjacent(?)):
- Dhar
- Razmi
- Ginseng & Honey

Row one Second box:
- Zebei
- Tungar

Row one Third Box is completely covered. I'm not sure if 1 or 2 incarnations are here, just like any of the ones in the columns below.

Row two First box (Tai Krung City(?)):
- Qadira
- Thorani (Similar hair.)
- Baozhai

Row two Second box:
-Yan

Row two Third box (Aztec area(?)):
- Nuna
- Leilani (The only character I think can fit here is her, or maybe Zahra. The simple silhouette, darker bottom / light top looks similar to her original design. I don't know if I can make out her weapon though (also have no clue why she'd be here if these boxes are different areas))
- Tenoch (Feathers on head?)

Row two Fourth box:
- Vasco (Brim of hat seen / Dark pants / long legs? Hard making this out.)

Row three First box:
- Sangmu (It looks like the character has a poofy skirt, but there's an odd line that almost looks like a hat or something on the chart image.)
- Ren

Row three Second box:
- No clue
- Zahra (This character looks like they're in a light colored dress, which is way off from the original Zahra design. It sort of looks like the character is holding something, which is reminiscent of Zahra's instrument.)

Row three Third box:
- Naga Rider

Row three Fourth box
:
- Kampan (It's hard to make out her design teased in the Anime Expo reel, but I think this is her from the small build / mechanical arm maybe being there?)

Row three Fifth box:
- Lanshi (Looks like an animal on four legs / is light gray)

Row four:
- Heruka Ajna (I'm pretty sure she's getting her own battle function, and the image here shows a character squatting with orbs floating around the top of them, similar to what was shown with Heruka Ajna.
- No clue
- No clue

Farther to the right of these are four (most likely more that are being covered) characters that I also have no idea. Everything below the third row is kind of confusing in terms of why they're there, haha. These might be inner realm incarnations? There's also backer incarnations but not sure where they may be.

Below that:
-Hassam (Really similar silhouette, again I'm not sure what these characters down here serve.)
- No clue (Possibly Antoine or Kaldi?)
- Toko (Just a shot in the dark, this pictures even bent upwards.)
- ??? Possibly more

Okay hopefully I got all the formatting on this alright. I might look back at some of the notes / likes / etc. each of the incarnations got when they were revealed to give a sense of how popular each character was and post it here.

Oooh good work! Really looks like you spend a lot of time on this. Thank you for your hard work 'w'
I'd say Phoebe is the one between Ren and the one that looks like Zahra, you can see what looks like her bow on the pic plus her hair.

Right, that's definitely Phoebe and Zahra in that box on the chart following Ren. If you look at the first chart Shan posted, you can see that most of the characters' positions are the same, but the artwork was updated. The biggest change was Vasco being swapped out for Antoine, and Nuna and Qadira being moved up from the bottom pile. If Kushi's still in her spot, then the only character in the upper sections that we aren't sure about yet is the character between Nuna and Tenoch.

I'm going to guess that the Block with Qadira and Baozhai is actually Port Maerifa, and the Block with Naga Rider and Kampan in the third row is Tai Krung City. So the way it's organized, it looks like the Rows are going from South Region, to North Region, to East Region. Very interesting.

I love Kushi and Leilani but i kinda feel like Indivisible has quite a bunch of young looking girls as characters (our very Ajna, Ginseng, Nuna, Kampan) so i wouldn't be surprised if one of them ended up being cut.
Dealing with gender was probably a tough challenge for them in general. The IGG roster had a pretty intentional split of males and females, but the female characters ended up weighing higher in popularity. I feel like the final roster is probably going to reflect that unless they can go beyond the 24 minimum.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I definitely see Phoebe now, and it's good to see the first chart still having some validity. (I wonder how Phoebe and Zahra are ending up in the same area lol, pretty interesting) I'll update the chart when I get a chance.

Including Phoebe and adding Kushi and Altun (if unchanged from first chart) to the chart, we have this?

1. Dhar - M
2. Razmi - F
3. Ginseng & Honey
4. Zebei - M
5. Tungar - M
6. Kushi - F Altun - M(?)
7. Qadira - F
8. Thorani - F
9. Baozhai - F
10. Yan - F
11. Nuna - F
12. ???
13. Tenoch - M
14. Vasco - M
15. Sangmu - F
16. Ren - M
17. Phoebe - F
18. Zahra - F
19. Naga Rider - M
20. Kampan - F
21. Lanshi - M
22.
23.
24.

For those people wondering about gender distribution, I included them here too. (Ginseng & Honey have only been referred to as 'They' so I'm leaving them neutral.)

M = 9
F = 11

The characters left from the indiegogo are:

Narssus - M
Kaldi - M
Toko - F
George - M
Antoine - M
Tatanka - M
Leilani - F
Hassam - M
Kogi - M

If the four remaining are being picked from this selection (and there aren't any new characters), they'll be from this lineup? I think Leilani will make it since she was super popular during the campaign. In terms of keeping the gender total equal, 3 more guys would theoretically balance it out.

Guess I'll just toss my own two cents in here, because the Incarnations are what got me into Indivisible in the first place.

Antoine's probably cut, as said earlier. I love Tatanka to bits but I have a feeling that he's cut as well. His general theme is very similar to Razmi, with both of them being shamans and utilizing spirits. I don't think any other pair of Incarnations overlap as much as these two, bar Shantae and Thorani (which is a weird situation since Shantae is a crossover character.), and L0 is specifically trying to make each Incarnation feel unique. Not only that, there are two/three other incarnations that can fill his visual role as the big buff fanservice guy, which really leaves him with nothing to stand out. His crotchless chaps and loincloth will get me every single time, but if I was a game dev, Tatanka'll be the first one I cut.

I feel like George, even though he wasn't received well, might be a lock, since Ajna has to unlock the spear somehow, unless Phoebe unlocks the spear. I have a feeling the final roster will be disproportionately female, since the female characters were much more well received than the male characters. I think if L0 does cut a female character, it will probably be Toko. She does have a tiny bit of visual overlap with Qadira and maybe some gameplay overlap with Dhar, but I feel like making different sword fighting styles is easier than making different shaman/summoner fighting styles.

Honestly waiting for character reveals have been so stressful. I'm still biting my nails with worry, none of my top 5 has been confirmed playable yet.

Wow, who was your Top 5? That must be a pretty peculiar list. We're getting down to the wire with that 24 minimum, so I hope one of your favorites is in.

Tatanka is in the danger zone, but I think he does have some things going for him. He was the only concept they showed for a male mage-type, and it was a pretty unique approach to a mage in general. They could have his spirit manipulation serve more of a support role than Razmi's, and maybe integrate some rhythmic aspects into it if they wanted. His appearance could be entirely altered as well, if they felt like they didn't need him to be a beefcake anymore. Those are the factors that can lead to those sorts of design changes anyway.

Maybe George could be the new beefcake? I'd say Kogi was the most popular of those studs, but I agree with you that I think George has a lot more going for him in regards to the gameplay and lore. I definitely wouldn't be surprised to see his design get heavily altered if he's in.

Regarding Shantae and Thorani, remember that since the Guests are post-release and NG+, they aren't necessarily factoring into the treatment of the main roster. I sort of doubt those two ladies will end up playing all that similar anyway. Shantae's got plenty of Pikeballs, and Fireballs, and Transformations to work with to separate her from Thorani's water powers.

My Top 5 is Tatanka, Narssus, Lanshi, Sangmu, and Leilani, in that order. I know Sangmu and Lanshi are most likely going to make it, but I am very wary of getting my hopes up.

I loved Tatanka so much because there's finally a male mage character who is a total hunk. Most games just make mages girls, or the male mages are twinks. If he does make it into the game, I agree with you that he will be more of a support character, which would be even better. I don't think there will be any major design changes, minor tweaks possibly, since Ravi did mention that Baozhai, Vasco, and Nuna where the major redesigns.

Looking at the second board, though, there's two characters in the bottom right, in the fourth row, that looks like they could be Tatanka and Narssus. One of the blurs looks like it has the fur around the waist thing that Narssus has, and the other one looks like it's showing a lot of skin. Again, can't get my hopes up.

Beefcake George would be amazing. They could even do a Hercules and the Nemean Lion thing with George and his dragon.

Looking at mechanics, though, we have Ginseng and Honey as early healers, Thorani as another healer, and Zahra/Tatanka as support. Do you think therer's enough room on the roster for another healer/support? And if so, who else would fit that role?

Do you think there's enough room on the roster for another healer/support? And if so, who else would fit that role?
Thinking on it some more, maybe Lanshi? Maybe having him on the team could bring good luck, or the Vajra could have special properties like shocking teammates back to life? His role is a bit vague right now, so it could go a lot of places.

I've got a good feeling about Narssus. He was decently popular, and they could have come up with some really cool stuff using his zombie attributes that would make him a unique roster pick. Plus, you know it's gotta be hard for Mike to pass up a character with good VSav reference potential.

But yeah, it's smarter to temper our hopes. There's no way LabZero could satisfy everyone's wishlist, but no doubt they're doing the best they can. We'll just have to see how it goes.

Out of the bara boys, I think Tatanka actually has the best chances. I love Kogi to bits but I'm sure he (as well as Kaldi) could be pretty easily formatted to something like inner realm cooking incarnations.

I know we're likely to see Kampan worked on next and there's a bunch that are pretty safely in (Thorani, Zahra, Sangmu, Lanshi, etc.), I'd really like it if we were thrown a curve ball and suddenly saw someone like George being worked on.

My first thought when we saw Kogi during the campaign actually was that he seemed like a good character to subvert expectations by not being a combat incarnation, given the giant weapon and buff guy look, however given his alleged inability to cook I've never been too sure if that's the case or not.

Fuck all of you, I want Kaldi to be playable.

I want all of them to be playable. Going to be sad to see who won't make it.

I share Blessings's sentiments on Tatanka. Seeing this buff shamanistic dude with a drum was quite a nice departure from the usual mage. If he were just an NPC though, I wonder what role he'll play in Ajna's inner realm.

Also I suppose we can consider who can be easily repurposed as NPCs. Kogi and Kaldi have been mentioned as ones who can provide serve some sort of food-related purpose. I can see Zahra being the person you go to for an in-game music gallery, and Sangmu for art (highly unlikely that she'll be unplayable though since MikeZ himself has said he would make sure she is playable). Maybe obtaining Kushi and Altun will unlock a different mode of transport.

I'd like to add that it's kind of sad how almost everyone is in some tacit agreement that Antoine is probably cut.

Now that you guys are talking about it I actually wish Tatanka makes it.
He'd fit in the North region at home and i admit i'm a fan of his design. He also kinda subverts the expectations about mage characters too, being a big dude and all that stuff.
Pretty sure he wouldn't overlap with Razmi given that they don't really look similar and their deal is kinda different : Razmi's relation with Bom feels quite friendly (for Raz' standards at least) and she uses his fire based powers while Tatanka is essentially stuck with the demon he accidentally summoned and is more about using powers of the dead... Admitedly we don't know this much about Tatanka but that's what i gathered about him.

I do wish George makes it, bar Vasco I don't think anyone looking like they come from the West is playable so that'd bring some diversity and make the whole Iron Kingdom appear greyer? Plus I like his chivalrous knight motif (though if they redesign him a bit I wouldn't be against it.) and yeah he could teach Ajna a thing or two with the spear. I do hope he keeps the armor though.

I thought Kogi would make a cool fighter myself! He could fight with heavy sword attacks and smack vetalas with his pot but as you guys it's likely he makes it as a npc too...

Would be fun if in the days coming L0 suddenly posts an update going like "Hey we started working on Kaldi or Antoine, here's some wips of animations!" :p

Hey, I've been supporting Kaldi's potential as a playable character for a long time. I love his attitude, his range of talents, the "everyman" theme he shares with Ajna, and he'd still be one of my favored picks for another Support-type character if he could be in. The cool throwing knife skills are just a bonus.

But with only 24 slots, and popularity as a factor, it's just too easy to picture 24 other characters lining up in front of him. Tatanka wasn't even the most popular, and you can already see here how many people would love for that guy to get in.

Seeing the new Vasco design actually made me feel a little easier about this, since there are a few things about him that remind me of Kaldi. They're still very different characters though, and even if Kaldi himself can't be playable, I'm at least hoping we'll get to enjoy some of his brew and chit chat in Inner Realm.

Wasn't part of Kaldi's bio, "Doesn't want to fight?" I imagine, if playable characters need to be cut, the ones that don't want to be played would be a natural choice. If Kaldi wants to be an NPC, let him.

On the other hand, throwing every reluctant pacifist into battle and NPCing the eager battle-ready hotheads would be funny.

if playable characters need to be cut
We don't know that any playable character got cut, they said at the time not all the revealed incarnations were supposed to be playable
