USA Chicago Thread: We are actually the best

There's a monthly at EXP Gaming Lounge called, "U Like That!" that I try to make it out to, that's your most likely place, imo. There won't be one in May, because of Combo Breaker, but in June, I'm sure it'll happen.

Ignite Gaming Lounge hosts fighters on Mondays, but it's all SFV right now.

I'm almost tempted to do a bi-weekly meetup at my apartment or something, but not sure if that would be too weird.

I did not know this existed. A shame they're only doing SFV/UMVC3 right now =/ I'm assuming it would not be simple (or free) to try and bring a PS4 and just set up a Skullgirls station on Fridays or something.

I remember asking around at Combo Breaker last year if there was some local Chicago SG stuff and everyone I asked was like "ehhhhhh not really".

Chicago really is Street Fighter country.

Best bet is to come to the EXP monthlies. I go to all of them, and so do some other SG players. It's in a lull, at the moment, but maybe CB will bring everybody out of the woodwork and we can get things working again.

For what it's worth I'm willing to support any Skullgirls event in Chicago. I mean do they even have any Guilty Gear events? Everything I saw on the schedule was literally SFV, Mortal Kombat, Marvel 3, and Smash.

I'm going to be at ignite every week until combo breaker. If you bring a console with SG we can get some games in there if you want.

Sure. Does anyone else show up?

NCV is usually there and would probably play. La Sombra shows up for street fighter but he might play some SG if there's a setup, and Kai would definitely play if he's shows up. Aside from that, you might get one or two others that would be interested in it.

Maybe I'll come down after I improve a bit more. Like in Juneish.

How long do you plan on sticking around? I'd like to try and make it out there, but I work Monday evenings and probably wouldn't be able to show up until, like, midnight-ish.

No better way to improve than to play/get fist hand advice from top players. Don't let how good you think you aren't stop you from doing things!

I usually stay until it closes so until like 2am.

I'm back around Chicago for a while and I want to play some casuals before Combo Breaker also. Anyone know if WIT still has casuals on Saturdays? There used to be a lot of SG going on there last year. Regardless I might bring a setup to Ignite soon.

Edit: and I don't just mean the tournaments, they had weekly casual BYOC nights

I think WIT fell off, for SG. Like you said, we had some action last year, but Halloween > Thanksgiving > Xmas took big, consecutive tolls on the whole last-weekend-of-every-month plan.

I'll be at Ignite with a SG setup tonight if anyone wants to get some last minute practice in.

I'm not Chicago so I can't have too much sway in the matter, but ULT seemed to be something I could reasonably attend with catching a ride from the Indy marvel crew. I'll ask if Ignite would work as well since I don't know if our guys go to those.

There's anime stuff Friday nights at Galloping Ghost. Also Ignite only has actual official tournaments for SFV, but all games are welcome for casuals. The SFV focus was primarily that I can't stay late enough to stream more than one game and we went with SF to show the locals on stream more often to help tie into the Red Bull things.

Perfect. I'll definitely try to make it there.

NOooooooooo I'm working during that time DDDDDDDDD= I'll try to see if I can switch to the morning shift that day, but I don't know how willing my coworkers will be to do that after covering for me for a solid two weeks =/

Okay, so I think things are looking better for me in terms of a car now, so I think I can actually go to this!

But I did want to ask if anyone would be willing to let me stay at a place for the night? It's not 100% necessary, since I can drive back myself afterwards, but if I'm driving by myself I would ideally prefer it not be super late on the return trip. I don't bite I swear and am usually super quiet ;~;. Should I ask in the Facebook page/group?

Just learned that sectional is a word, ah cool. And yeah that's fine, I hope to not be a bother on you guys but thanks a lot :3

Should I bring my monitor along to help with additional setups? No Consoles but I can at least do this

I'm going to be bringing my best friend along with me for the meetup. He told me that he has no intention of playing but is pretty interested in watching. He's more skittish than I am so try not to scare him :V

*HUG* HEY MAN I'M KAI WELCOME TO THE THUNDERDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOME

Is anybody who is going to the local on Saturday have a Madcatz TE2 fightstick or really any Madcatz sitck with this propriety USB connector?
cekYvrl.jpg

I'm asking because my fightstick randomly disconnects while playing after 10+ minutes. I originally thought it was due to my USB port on my PC, but I got a PS4 and it does the same thing on there.

I want to switch with someone's cord to see if the problem is either with the extension cord or the fightstick itself.

Is there a reason why the meetup time is so late? It's on a Saturday so I figured that it wasn't cause of work. I guess I'm asking cause I'm used to the ULT's before and the Indiana monthlies which were also Saturday and started at 12 PM. They did run other games too which we aren't doing here, but it still seems really short and I'd like to show up earlier and play everyone I could since even with 2 hours before bracket it never feels like there is enough time for everything. Plus I always liked the time to hang out. :(

I guess I should say, I was expecting like 4 to be the meetup time, but I was also assuming it would be like 14 people at least showing up

According to their facebook page, they open for business at 5pm.

I'll post my edit into a seperate post instead

The last ULT a week ago still said it was going on from 12 PM. You sure that isn't just weekday policies? It'd be weird if they suddenly changed it, since a quick glance doesn't show any big holidays that day.

The owner himself said he wouldn't be available until the evening, which is why it's not midday. Additionally, I think it may be a good idea to keep it later in the day, as it would help us in the event that a future meetup happens on the same day as the SFV monthly across town, which is midday.

It's certainly not immutable, regardless.

Sorry that I had to bounce before people collectively made a trip to Lou Malnati's once grand finals was over. If it were any other day I'd be on board like butter on toast but I already made plans for six flags for the following morning. Next time for certain, though.

Were the PS4s set to 720p yesterday? Setting it wrong may be one of the reasons that PS4 feels weird compared to PC.

The stream setup was, I know that much.

Yeah, and MegaMix made sure his setup was set to 720p as well, so that's at least one of the loser's setups right there.

They ORIGINALLY weren't. I however changed the setting with every PS4 I played into 720p mode. I typically subscribe to the whole "if it isn't mine I don't mess with it" philosophy but if you are going to do a tournament you should be damn sure to have all the settings right. I think the only PS4 I didn't change the settings was the one you were playing Duck.

EDIT - They also screwed up my tag name. It is "MegaMix" not Megamex".

Guess I need to find a way to get the PC version to run the same as PS4 then.

Just set every PS4 to 720p. The one you were playing on was the only one that I did not change the settings for. It's the same as PC when it's in 720p mode. In 1080p mode however things are noticeably different.

EDIT - For reference I didn't change all the TVs to 720p after a while. And the only TV you were playing on after I did that was the only console I didn't change the resolution for.
