Interplay has announced a Clayfighter remaster, combining the content of all past games into one package.

Features include:

Characters such as Bad Mr. Frosty, Blue Suede Goo, Earthworm Jim, Hoppy, Boogerman, Tiny – and more with over 20 characters total
Over 20 familiar environments from the series to duke it out in
Brand new gameplay introducing new mechanics to the series such as double jumping, air dashing, counters, and reversals
Unique supers and ‘Claytality’ moves for each character
The game will feature remastered audio and high resolution visuals providing the ultimate clay based gaming experience
Clayfighter is intended for release on “personal computers” (likely Linux, Mac and PC, we assume) in 2016, and comes courtesy of a mysterious developer called Drip Drop games in collaboration with what’s left of Interplay.

Honestly, I don't know if this is real.

Sure, why not? Didn't Shaq Fu recently get relevant again?

It's definitely a neat idea if it's true, but real or fake, what was the dev team/rumor faker smoking to think "you know what people might want back? Motherfucking Clay Fighter"?

OK, I AM interested in how this'll go if it's real, though

I had fun with the Clayfighter games back in the day, but I never felt another sequel was really necessary. The series was so tongue in cheek for its time, that I'm worried a new game will just end up feeling like a parody of a parody (like the Spaceballs TV show). I'd love to see more new games experiment with stop-motion & claymation graphics though.

I dunno, I feel like the only way I'm going to get excited about this is if they hire Mike Z as a consultant, and they pay him so much money that they're indirectly funding more Skullgirls DLC.

I never really played the games, but I seen videos of them. I am not sure how I should feel about it right now other than curiosity.

I like that MediEvil-tier snark in that narration

Hopefully the game's writing will keep that atmosphere

PS MK should never have given up on filmed sprites
They still do use actors in those weird skeleton suits to animate the characters, but yeh, it'd be cool if there was a mode where they looked like the filmed sprites XD

If you do start playing them, start with 63⅓ the first two might disappoint you.

I wonder why they bothered announcing this so early if nothing is even going to come of it for like a whole year

Nothing's been said since the initial announcement. No teasers, no interviews, no trailers, no devblogs, nothing that tells me this is still happening

yeah this is almost as bad as Legend of Raven by Necallis.

FTFY.
Hey I liked Clayfighter 2 :( Although I guess I would have been 9 years old at the time so maybe I was easier to impress than I am now. I did like how it let you make double elimination brackets though, I haven't seen that in another fighting game.

It's the FG way.

Generate early hype and wait as long as you possibly can to give updates.

If you're arcsys, add: announce expansion two weeks after game launches.
