Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax

So my roommate bought dengeki bunko climax (sad since ignition is coming out december and they are obviously not going to update vanilla), but I decided to give it a shot.

I...kinda like this game. A lot. It's not the best looking fighter I've played, but I'm having way more fun with it than other Anime fighters.

I like the girl from Strike the Blood and I use the Dokoro Chan assist.

Akira is in the current version, you can unlock him by finishing story mode.
 
Akira, Railgun, and Palm Puff Tiger are the only characters I really wanna play.

Akira in Dengeki has moves that feels familiar from his 3d counterpart. He is also much easier to use compared to his 3d counterpart and is arguably one of the more lower entry barrier ones for this game since he is very straightforward with not much gimmicks. He is all about common spacing fundamentals and feels like a shoto without having a fireball.

Please no Sonic characters. There are several potential Sega cameos to put in over Sonics. Keep them in Smash.

There are several Sega game inspired stages with no appropriate Sega rep for that stage. Most mainstream gamers just would only probably recognize the Green Hill type. Sega's real involvement in the actual game is literally just stages, a couple guests, and a story plot device. The game roster is heavily shifted to Dengeki IP

Another Ignition news bump


Shows off recently announced new playable Shirai Kuroko [the new support Kazari Uiharu too] and a new stage.

Two things I noticed from that video is that there are now 4 new stages (a training room like one, a Sega workshop and the other two are seen doing the stage select) and previous characters have a new cut in for their climax arts.
 
More characters as early limited time free DlC. For the 17th release. Guess what? MORE SAO CHARACTERS lol.

SAO again has most playable reps [3] and reps period including support [5]. SAO must really sell a fuck ton more and simply that much more popular compared to the other Dengeki's stuff. Kind of funny that Sinon got skipped over as a GGO rep by a relatively minor character.
 
For what it's worth, Yuuki is at least a very cool and interesting character, from what I saw of SAO 2.
Author might've bitten off more than he could chew with the AIDS angle (he even admitted it maybe wasn't such a hot idea)
But oh well, at least it's not trash Kirito.
 
I always found Yuuki as a Mary Sue and in some ways even worse then Kirito. If it wasn't for the fact that she was another waifu and didn't have a long term appearance where you would get series fatigue because AIDS issue I can gurantee she would be in a similar Kirito position.
 
Everyone in SAO is just

absolutely awful. But that's another story for another time.

When the blazing hell is Celty or Izaya or someone from Baccano.
 
When they become relevant like the Dengeki big three which I think is SAO/AW [Kawahara], Mahouka [Satou], and Certain Scientific yada yada last [Kamachi] I looked. Notice those three writers got the best treatment for this game.
 
I thought Durarara was pretty popular. Oh well.

We need Ladd Russo and Shizuo to team up and kick some Gary Stu ass.

It's fine if you like/dislike x character/series/whatever, but please stop flaming/baiting each other since that is a forum rule violation. OH LOOK ANOTHER CHARACTER WITH A SWORD WHAT A SURPRISE
 
There are actually not that that many sword characters in this game. if we just look at the playable roster for example.

Akira = Unarmed
Asuna = Rapier [let's consider it a general sword]
Emi = Sword
Kirino = Random shit
Kirito = Sword/Dual Swords
Kuroko = Powers
Kuroyukihime = Black Lotus [Not a sword. That is like calling Baraka a sword]
Mikoto = Powers
Miyuki = Magic
Quenser = Guns/Explosives/Squad/etc
Rentaro = Unarmed/Gun
Selvaria = Spear
Shana = Odachi [let's consider it a general sword]
Shizuo = Unarmed/Random shit
Taiga = Unarmed/Random shit [No she is not a sword character just because she uses a Bokken barely in her movelist]
Tatsuya = Unarmed/Magic
Tomoka = Random shit
Yukina = Lance
Yuuki = Sword


There are like 5 sword characters total out of the current 19 playable roster. 3/5 came from Sword Art Online so go figure. Even then those 5 characters either use different type of swords [A rapier has a very different purpose compared to an Odachi.] or a radically different sword fighting style [Kirito has his special dual wield style] so there is hardly an overlap if you go from one sword character to another in this game. I find the Arc Sys games or Soul Calibur much worse in terms of sword character presence.

The lack of sword presence is even worse if you factor in the shit load of supports that don't use a sword either.

Your much more likely to hit a character that either largely fights unarmed or does random shit in this game. Which makes sense considering a good chunk of the roster come from non battle LNs. Even the ones that do come from battle LNs largely don't use swords either since they have either different type of weapons or have some other source of power.

I like when the cast all yells the title at the end
and it's this chorus of high pitched, female voices with Daisuke Ono yelling in the back.
Yeah there's like two other guys but I sure as hell can't hear them.
 
Finally some decent ALO recognition. (We need more badass sword wielding fairies)

So, can we just talk about how unclear some of the moves are in this game?

Like, I thought that the vending machine kick move was a power up move until today.
