diario de dMags

I'll have to try again in the lab, but IIRC the issue I had with H beam was that the final hit of beam would connect after the H pinion, so the enemy never got flung back. Probably just my timing.
yeah it's just timing, there are some funky things that happen when you plink an assist call with Robo's special moves. I just find it helpful to call the assist just as the beam from the grab finishes and then doing a sliding motion to do the heavy beam. but that's just me.

- no more quickmatch for me, at least not with my main characters, I'm developing too many bad habits

- I continuously forget that Danger! is a move that Robo can use until 30 seconds after I finish a set

Message me if you ever wanna play beta, I have not played against Robo at all so I could use the experience too

Got a lot of games in the past week or so compared to usual for me, so that's been great. Lots of good practice, now that I'm thinking a bit more seriously about robo fortune and have gotten some games in I'm struggling to really find a solid team order that I wanna run.

PW is definitely my best character, specifically on point. I play neutral the best with her and feel the most comfortable with her. The tl;dr version of this point is basically to say, I want to keep PW on point.

PW ( H pinion ), Robo ( cr.mk ), BB ( L BE ) - This is the team I think I want to run. mixups with the low assist are awesome and I'm having a ton of fun playing this order. The only problem I have is that if PW dies early, Robo has a shitty time on incoming, so unless I can get Robo in via tag or DHC things arent looking very good. H Beam assist is also really hard to say no to as an assist, it benefits BB more in my opinion, and PW also benefits greatly from it, I just really wanna use a low assist for now.

Robo ( H beam ), PW ( H pinion ), BB ( L BE ) - Probably the other option i'd take seriously, for myself at least I think Robo is strongest on point, and PW has a much better time on incoming + a safe DHC.

Robo ( H beam ) / BB ( H Brass)
PW ( H Pinion ) / BB ( H Brass )
- I've played both of these teams against Peanuts ( and would use it against other point peacock teams ). The PW version is a lot of fun, but obviously the Robo team is easier since you can actually challenge peacock a bit more frequently and just hang back. I still lost every game to peanuts running these two teams, but I think the matchup went way better than usual and I actually have some faith in beating solid peacock players now.

I'm free to resets right now, i screw up pushblocking timing a lot and end up either getting CH or backdashing, and my reversal timing is poor ( at least online ). Not sure what to do other than get more practice and hope it improves and hope that I can detect my opponents patterns better over time

I watched the replay of the games we did last night, noticed a few things. The first thing I want to say though is that you say "my reversal timing is poor" but you are also playing a character point whose best reversal option is a slow normal with 1 hit of armor, and PW isn't known for strong reversals either. Alpha counter into beat extend might be something to consider, but even with that you are playing a team that does not have (relatively) many options to get out of pressure (imo). With that out of the way:

-The pushblock timing is definitely a thing I noticed, I don't think I had a single time I went for tick throw on BB and it DIDN'T work. There were also a few times where it seemed like you just kinda stopped blocking so I'm guessing that was a failed pushblock and you got hit in backdash startup.

-Practice your midscreen robo combo, you never completed it in any games and I'm pretty sure delay j.lp mid combo isn't a reset you were going for lol.

-You upback a lot. Some good advice I got from sage is if you're reading throw then jump forward and normal instead of upbacking (and if you aren't reading throw then upbacking is probably going to lose to whatever's coming)

-You didn't call assist when BB was on point at all. This is a habit I had trouble breaking as well because I was so used to BB just being my last character, but your oki game could be a lot better if you used assists. Also, play oki with BB it's really good.

-You mashed air reversal with PW basically every chance you got, I dunno if it was just because I kept falling for it earlier in the set and it was a read or if it's just a bad habit because later I got a lot of burst baits with double off.

-You went for armor baits w/ PW a bit too often, especially later in the set after you saw I wasn't really mashing anything but you kept trying them and it just lost you pressure. A good practice is noting in the first few games what resets are working against your opponent and what resets aren't and adjusting accordingly.

-also you went for wakeup throw a LOT w/ BB and I don't think it ever worked out, you got pretty raw-tag happy too though that might just have been panicking.

I don't know how to play 2/3 of your team so I can't give too much advice on them, I would say definitely get some robo combos/resets down because you didn't really do much when you got a hit, and of course if I touched robo she was basically dead. You didn't really zone at all with her either, I would watch @fenster (because he's the best robo I know of) although he also uses brass assist for zoning, but he does a lot of stuff that might help you. Ending a combo with s.hk c.hk is good too (but you have to be able to get to the end of the combo first of course). Choosing your assist is something you could work on too, you would do stuff like upback call PW which didn't really do anything at all for you.

PW like you said is clearly your best character, your play with her seemed pretty solid, I don't have really any neutral advice since I don't play her but you probably could have used your armored air normal (j.hp?) more since that's really strong vs Filia.

BB...I would ask peanuts for BB neutral advice because he's better at it than me but don't be afraid to be more agressive against opponents below you with j.lk, you basically just did jump back j.mp and sometimes cymbals. BB has a REALLY good air throw, use it more. Especially against Filia I don't think you should have lost that MU since BB's hardest matchups IMO are people who can get above him and Filia can't do it at all, j.lk and airthrow would have been good there, cymbals are obviously great at stalling offense but be careful using them at point blank.

We talked a bit about it last night but again when you play the team for real not just having robo point to practice robo I would definitely do pw/robo/BB. "shitty on incoming" is VERY relative since most all incoming setups nowadays everyone has to guess against, pw doesn't have much over robo in that respect.

EDIT: I posted this before watching the last game but that last game actually you did a MUCH better job with the zoning game, if your execution with robo was better I would have lost that game 100%. Something else to consider in the last game is that robo/bb is MUCH better than vice versa (especially since if you get down to robo last character you've basically already lost if I have the life lead) so if your team order gets messed up and you have the chance to fix it (which you did, you had a chance to do a dhc that you didn't take) you probably should.

It's the second one.

bad habits, me? pleease peanuts you must be mistaken

but yeah, i agree with majority of that stuff so I appreciate the feedback @Pickles - i haven't had the chance to rewatch any of the games but I was definitely getting frustrated a bit and mashed reversals a bit too heavy. Some of the bursts you hit me with I legit thought would touch double, but most were me being stupid.

As for BB + assists, I need to work on this. Like you said, when BB is in I almost always forget I even have assists because I'm so used to him coming in last and alone. I'm trying to play my team a lot more interchangeably, so it's something I need to keep in mind.

I'll watch the tapes tonight, but more sets would be great/better :)

Oh, come to think of it, yeah when I played your robo dmags I don't particular remember her zoning all too much, so Pickles is probably right and maybe that's a thing to work on? I won't be able to get to our replays, but you should check yours to see how much zoning you try because she definitely can and should do if for a bunch of matchups.

dMags I can teach you how to be lame

Updated OP, planning to focus on playing/recording and analyzing matches from here forward.

It's been a while, I made an update to the OP

10/14/2015 - The dream is on hold currently. I moved in September, and my new apartment setup does not include a wired internet connection to my bedroom, which really really sucks. So I can't play skullgirls on PC since I have no wireless card on my computer, but regardless the wireless signal absolutely sucks in my bedroom, so I can't even play on PS4 really. I've looked into ways to improve this, and it's just not feasible at this point in time. Thankfully I can still go to locals and play with the GU guys, but otherwise I really can't play against anybody outside of locals so that really sucks. There's a chance I might try and move my PC to the router once a week to at least try and get some matches, but I'm not sure yet how that well will work. I pre-reg'd for NEC, so I'm excited to go to that at least. RIP for now
Couldn't you just connect the PC to the router via Ethernet using a really, really long Ethernet cable?

That's what I do actually, for a few days it was just a huge cable running through the house, but now I drilled some holes and it goes through some walls all covered up and pretty.

or just move the computer to the living room? unless you mean you don't have the router in your apartment which sucks if thats the case

Short answer, yes of course, hell I could connect to the moon's ethernet port with a really long cable. I have a 100' cable, I tried running that already and it's about 10 feet short when I just run it loosely on the ground ( i.e. not running along the walls/doorframes, etc.. ), so yes I could buy a longer cable. The problem is that it's not a permanent solution, and I really don't want a long ass cable running from one end of the apartment to the complete opposite end, as well as down a set of stairs. I have 4 roommates plus a dog, and it's a rowdy bunch, I just don't see it going over well haha

As I type this though, I remember that I had forgotten that I now have the Linux copy of SG, so if I can get my PS360+ to work on my laptop, then that actually might work out great and solve this issue.

If all else fails, I think I'll just try to set aside time, ex. Wednesdays 8-10pm EST , to bring my PC downstairs and play that way. It's better than nothing

or just move the computer to the living room? unless you mean you don't have the router in your apartment which sucks if thats the case

Yeah we have a router, but I can't just set my computer up in the middle of the living room, not permanently at least. It's not something I plan on doing every day either.

Remember when you use SG Linux that if your controller doesn't work (or rather, it does, but SG is like lol what controller? here's two keyboards tho) to attempt configuring it in Big Picture mode. Good luck @dMags

dang thanks for the advice, I wouldn't have thought to try something like that if I hit troubles. I'll give it a go tonight on teh loonux and see how I make out

Not without a repeater - the limit for Ethernet before the signal degrades too much to be useful is about 100 meters.

god damnit Mike lol at least this post won't give birth to a non-existent signature move

success

had to hold 2P + 2K ( mp + mk ) on the PS360+ to force Xbox 360 mode on boot, then skullgirls/linux picked it up right away, none of the other force modes worked.

Powerlan/Powerline/etc is a solution you should look into because it's godlike and yes. Buy Powerlan. Even if your problem is solved for now, it's just good.

Robo-Fortune/Beowulf sounds like a fun duo to play, using H beam and H chair toss as assists.

a few quick things to note:
- working on getting recording software to work on my linux laptop, since that's become my primary means of playing at home/online. I'll update the OP once that's settled. I have a lot of free time coming up once my job ends, so I can put some effort into this junk
- Painwheel throw assist? get the f??? out of here, crouch light kick is getting some action now.

GU Nov Monthly
I played pretty poorly during the actual tournament, but it was a lot of fun so I'm not too upset by it. After the tournament I played a pretty long casual set with sharpie and that went a lot better since I was warmed up at that point. Execution kept coming up as a problem area I need to work on, specifically after getting a knockdown or just reset timing in general. I was playing with painwheel throw assist for this set, it worked ok but my timing was too far off in my setups to consider it useful.

set with @Tommer / @tommer.wine
played an online set w/ tommer this past saturday I believe it was, playing team order PS ( L shot ), BB ( L be ), and anchor PW ( cr.lk ). the cr.lk assist worked really well, clicked much better than throw does. It's great for BB with his j.lk/mk pressure, and his GS overhead or calling it in parallel with cymbals. I didn't do this in the set much since i need to practice it more, but both BB and PS can do restand resets after their respective st.hk wallbounces using pw assist as well.

Outside of that, a few things about playing point PS against Squigly, I had a lot of trouble when Squigly was above me and I didn't have napalm pillar charge or I thought he was trying to bait it. I think j.lk might be a good option here since it has better horizontal range than j.lp. Also, a bad habit I kept doing was calling assist while Squigly was in the air to keep her in blockstun, but then allowing her to fall on me with a falling normal attack. Lastly, parasoul's standing lp kept whiffing on crouching squigly, but I kept pressing it of course so I gotta pay attention to adapting quicker to things like that...Just something I need to keep in mind when playing against Squiglys.

@NCV had made a video about PW resets using Pillar assist
I practiced those resets with BE assist and it works just as well with slightly different timing, so that's really fun stuff to start using as well.

3 tournaments the next 3 weekends, that's really exciting and it's way more play time than I've had the past few months. I think I'm gunna try and use painwheel's cr.lk assist for these as well, stir the gumbo baby

Before you get too excited I'm not sure the Connecticut tournament is happening. You and Tommer were the only people who expressed interest, and I didn't hear anything from New Your.
