Digital Art Compendium Discussion

Haha, a physical DAC is like asking for a physical Wikipedia. A forest would have to die just for one set.

Whatever price Lab Zero picks is fine with me. It doesn't devalue what I already have. What I can't stand are some people that were torrenting it. Just giving it away like it were nothing.

It contains both animations and concept art, right?
Think of all the official art you could want, all meticulously organized.

DAC breaks up into seven folders:
ArcadeSticks - almost two dozen high-res fight stick designs
Character Art - model sheets and action shots
Environment - high-res stage background paintings
Frame Dump - the biggest section, every character subdivded by every type of motion. The line art, default palette, and shading have been "baked" into single-layer PNG frames.
Keyart - character specific posters (like in the opening) and other art
ProductionArt - miscellaneous promotional images (t-shirt designs, concept art, etc.)
Story - every piece of the stories (backgrounds and talking heads)

There's even stuff from the old Reverge Labs days

The only thing missing would be an x-sheet, or whatever the proper name is for keyframe layout (you know, frame duration) to see how the animation is supposed to be timed.

I would hope that as much as others do that after 2nd Encore releases that an updated DAC will come back. I adore the Skullgirls artstyle and the fanart that people continuously make. I didn't know about Skullgirls until four months ago and only saw that the DAC existed 3 weeks ago. It would be amazing if it were to be re-released for a price along with an updated Skullgirls soundtrack. Here's to hoping.

I pay 60 bucks for the digital compendium if it ever gets released for us. And 2+ years of exclusivity could count as "something others don't have". You could make a poll and see if the owners would feel cheated if the compendium wasn't exclusive to them anymore.

sorry if this is not the right place for my question, this is my first post in the forum,.

I am a well-wisher and I'm trying to download my DAC for the new characters but can't find the link in my Humble account, I'm quite worried and don't know what to do, anyone can help me ?.

If you're on your Humble Bundle download page, click on "ebooks" and you should see the link.

thank you very much for answering, and so soon!

*heavenly chorus of thousands of Big Band trumpet noises*

Go check out your Humble Bundle page, the OST and the DAC were updated today! The final update! The IndieGoGo notices haven't been dished out yet, but you can go get your 5.7 GB of wonderful art right now. Or in my case, in a few hours of downloading via the torrent option.

Arg, I guess I forgot to get rid of that. That was a one-off animation that Mariel made for a GDC talk that she gave. We plugged it into the Skullgirls engine so she could use it as an example.

Before anyone gets their hopes up about it, it has nothing to do with Skullgirls OR Indivisible, and there are no plans to MAKE it have anything to do with either.

It's still interesting, Render. Would you mind if we take her and make a silly little backstory for her?

Or do we have to talk to Mariel for that?

IDGAF what you do with her. I don't see why you'd need our permission for that, but you're welcome to ask Mariel about it. I doubt she cares. They're just rough animations for a one-off thing.

Sorry. Not in a good mood today. -___-;

It's not even close to turning into any sort of mess, and I appreciate you asking for permission even though it's unnecessary in this case. :D :D :D

Not sure who at Lab Zero should know this, but the fix that came with the Eliza DAC update (Nov 2014) that repaired the transparency in Filia's eyes, has reverted in the new DAC update:

in pairs, left is 2nd DAC, right is 3rd DAC

@EU03 - What happened? :[

I guess I can copy over the frames from the previous DAC update, but I will still need Filia's taunt.

Whoa, hey, uh, if you're gonna update it again, maybe you could add Peacock's whistle winpose and/or update Final Atrium, too.

The whistle was there before. Was it removed?

Either that or it's hidden pretty well...

EDIT: Fukua's got Filia's eye thing, too.

BARF.
It was a temp fix that I did back then. Totally forgot about it.

That's always been there. You're not looking hard enough. Somewhere in her supers.

We know. Thank you.

Incidentally, I'm very happy there all kinds of new goodies in all the folders, like all the awesome artwork added in Production Art.

That's a good fix. It looks like most of it is identical except for the animations that were redrawn and the taunt.

Nah it's only shading and the lighting having it's way with the color ;^)

I wasn't concerned about her hair. That's obviously just the lighting. I was noticing her crosses being red.

first, sorry for my bad english. it really bad.

I remember 'Keep Skullgirls Growing' Contributor have 'Digital Sketch Book' but can't know what picture inside sketchbook.
is all sketch book picture in digital art compendium?

I believe it contains bunch of concept art done by both lead artist and lead animator. Mostly Sketches. (I can't promise you that I'm right though)

You can buy Kinuko's (Lead animator for skullgirls) sketchbook here.
I don't know how much of a skullgirls art is in this book, but at least you get to look at cool concept arts :D.

Correct. The sketchbook is like a couple dozen pages, all black and white featuring concept art of each character.

Plus there are a few pages for characters that didn't make into the game, sketches, backgrounds, and storyboards for a possible action sequence (Painwheel vs. Filia). No overlap with the compendium.

The sketchbook is a PDF while the compendium is like 5GB of all kinds of art.
