Doesn't everyone love Sonic? - The Sonic the Hedgehog thread.

The comics did suck when Penders was doing it, but I highly recommend picking up the reboot of it. After the Sonic and Mega Man crossover, the universe reset and it's much closer to the games now. In fact, Issue 252 shows all the events in the past being "rewritten" to be more like the games (such as Robotnik looking like how he did in the Genesis days).

the comics did start to lack a bit with Penders. But when they did the crossover and than reboot i kinda felt a little sad that alot of the stories i was enjoying because it was less like the games were being just completely walked over

I will also give Sonic Lost World a try. What I am seeing so far is looking great in my opinion. As for favorite pieces of music, one of them is "General Offensive...for Sky Deck" from Sonic Adventure.

Someone had to sit down and write this

Someone had to think about what they wanted to say, sit down, and use his fingers to type this out.

This is a cry for help not for the Choas Emerlad in their butt, but for their sanity.

Please.

Someone.

Assgist this man.

I played only 1 Sonic game and I remember it quite fondly, even though no saves and no passwords were a pain in the ass, in it.

Which level do you dislike the most thus far or gave you the most trouble?

Fuckin' Death Egg in Sonic 2. Why, WHY would they give you no rings and two bosses?
It wasn't a difficulty spike, it was a difficulty Tower of Babel.

Posted in another thread but relevant
Always a fan of the flash animations Sonic Shorts.
And have you guys heard the Project Chaos soundtrack for Sonic 3 & Knuckles? Amazing stuff, especially Walk on Water, Dead Batteries, Breathtaking Vision, Divided by Grace, and The Doomsday.

The first reaction. totally fair. But those other reactions towards what IGN says...is actually spot on. They ACT like that.

I do work for The Sonic Show and while I totally love making the videos and playing the games, I loathe reading the comments. Like, let me grab a few:
  • "go fuck your self sonic adventure 1 and 2 were great games"
  • "guys if you don't like storys in sonic why do you play the new games with full stories in it hmmm (*sigh* people these days)"
  • "i was saying shut up because i just said examples of stuff so The ROBLOX lego copy thing wassit what i was talking about... "
  • "i know but shes not a canon character she's only and will ever be in sonic X , i'm pretty sure she won't be in any game (yet?wait why yet she died!) and besides she died i know shes growing in a pot but i think she might as well grow back into a baby when tails is an adult but don't get me wrong i like cosmo its just shes a bit of a mary-sue no offense"
  • "Call of duty sucks sonic is awrsome sose"
  • "Tanner should swear more often."

I could grab more but I'm too lazy.

Sonic fanbase in a nutshell:

ku-xlarge.jpg

At one time, Sonic being cooler than Mario was practically a fact. Some of y'all just don't know! Unfortunately, I had kind of a falling out with the franchise a long time ago.

I dug Sonic so much as a kid. I'd play the games repeatedly and listen to the Sound Tests for hours. I even made my own Sonic comics, and so when the Archie comics first came out, I got kinda jealous and avoided reading them. Eventually my parents bought me some back issues, and once i put my feelings aside, I found myself getting really attached to the stories and characters Archie had created. By the Sonic CD issue (#25), I was totally hooked. During the "Great Lull", those comics carried the fanbase on their frikkin' shoulders, man.

So when Sonic Adventure came out, I wasn't sure what to expect. I knew the games were a different continuity from the comics, but the games had never bothered to tell much of a story before. I figured they owed Archie at least a few cameos or something. By the time I played the game, I realized not only did Sega avoid doing that, but they were also creating a zany world for Sonic that I just didn't care about. Archie gave me Bunnie, Enerjak, Mecha Madness...while Sega gave me Big the Shit and a bunch of humans. The gameplay wasn't enough to swing me over, so I figured I'd just forget about Sonic games for a while and focus on the comics.

Then the comics started to suck. The plots were turning into a bad soap opera and you could tell they were trying to figure out what to do with Sega's bullshit. This Sonic thing just wasn't fun anymore. My friends and I were flipping back to issues 1-50 the same way we were flipping back to Sonic 1-3&K. We realized we needed to move on to something else.

Obviously I've played other Sonic games since then, and some of them aren't bad. I thought Sonic Battle in particular was really fun. Overall, I'm glad the hedgehog's still kicking, but for me it'll just never be quite like the old days.

There was a point where Sonic was cooler than Mario. But now...Sonic just tries to hard. Sonic games jsut need to chillax and stick to a formula that works. Lost World was a hit or miss: you like or you don't. I thought the game was ok, and I don't mind giving it a playthrough. But just because Gamespot and IGN don't like the game, this hurts the fanbase. I go by reviews for CERTAIN games to get an idea what I'm getting into. That's how I picked up on Rayman Origins and lookit me now, I have Rayman Legends and I finally got a chance to play Rayman 3 on psn. I don't go fully go by biased opinions. But I skim through the ideas to get a sense at what I'll be getting into with any game. But then again, reviewers can be biased though.

Watch out!

I think Sonic Generations is my favorite game since Sonic 3 and Knuckles. The only level I didn't care for too much was the last one with the wisps because of how many times I had to restart, heh. Sonic Lost Worlds looks fun though. It seems to have that old platforming style. Most of the recent Sonic games (including the Sonic Adventure series) had some fun mechanic for part of the game but it always seemed to be bogged down by other things, whether it was clunky controls, camera issues, fishing games, werehogs, etc.

Anyone been keeping up with the Sonic comics by Archie? I think I stopped collecting them around the time the story caught up to Sonic Adventure, and I've only been checking in on things every couple of years or so. I heard Antoine died recently??? Did they bring him back? Why'd they kill him off??? Can someone confirm?

I stand by the idea that Sonic has one of the worst fanbases out there.

The Sonic fanbase is actually one of the best fanbases! It's only a problem if you think Sonic's eye color should be green, in which case you're not a real Sonic fan because Sonic's real eye color is black. If Sega changed Sonic's eyes back to their real color then maybe they wouldn't get so much hate.

I dunno, Homestuck, MLP and Dangan Ronpa are getting up there as pretty bad.

I don't see people dressed as Sonic walking around West Edmonton Mall, but I see trolls and bronies all the time.

Edit: And I don't mean just bronies being at the mall. I mean grown ass men with beards painted blue in Lulu Lemon yoga pants and a sports bra with a rainbow wig on screaming "20%! 20%!"

That's not really the same as going ADHD with death threats over everything criticising their fandom.

Every fandom has it's share of stupid people.
I'm not saying Sonic ISN'T the worst fandom ever, in fact at times it could easily be, but you can't judge based on it's lowest common denominators.

Like, the Sonic community, at it's best, produces some awesome stuff. Like the music remixes at the beginning, and stuff like Sonic: After the Sequel, which it, Before the Sequel and Before the Sequel Aftermath make up 3 games better than most of the recent Sonic outings.

I've yet to see the MLP, HS or DR fandoms make anything of such high caliber that can be enjoyed by non-fans as well.

There are also those who argue which is better: 2D or 3D.

Whats wrong with Dangan Ronpa fanbase?

I've actually been trying to play through the "Around the Sequel" games recently. The games themselves aren't bad, but yeah, those soundtracks are on a whole different level!

So speaking of fans, what other Sonic fangames have people tried? I've played those Sonic Origins games made in Game Maker, but I'm not sure I would really qualify them as "Sonic" games aside from the sprites. That 3D Sonic 2 remake from a few years ago looked pretty cool though.

Well there is always Sonic Robo Blast 2, but I haven't seen/touched that in years so who knows what's up with that anymore, but it was a Doom mod essentially but more 3D classic sonic than any other 3d sonic game

My hardest level in any Sonic game (including spin-offs) would be finding the God damn computer room on the Ark's Hero mission on Shadow the Hedgehog. Why did they think having the stage fall apart as you play it was a good idea?!

On the subject on hard stages, I would like to say Green Hills Zone Act 3 from Sonic 2 (Game Gear) is one of them. The boss is not so bad. Getting to him is another story because you need land on the spring and if you do, you must make sure that you have enough speed to make it in some areas. In other areas, you got to make sure that you don't go too fast or you'll die.

@KaboomKid Here are a few other Sonic fan games I found: Sonic Axiom and Sonic Classic.

I thought finding that DAMN 4th chaos emerald was pretty tough.

Some of the stupider things Sonic characters say make for great jokes.
