Doesn't everyone love Sonic? - The Sonic the Hedgehog thread.

I've yet to see the MLP, HS or DR fandoms make anything of such high caliber that can be enjoyed by non-fans as well.

Well if Sonic community made their own games then I probably should mention that MLP community made their own episode with great quality, tons of refferences to almost anything (mostly other cartoons) and even has a cross-over with Cartoon Network. :P And tons of great music sometimes only bordering with MLP theme like Generosity, Kindness and Loyalty. But I guess I should stop offtoping.

I always found Sonic games fun to look at but I don't get the gameplay especialy in 2D versions since for me Sonic is mostly going to fast to react and in 3D you at least have a good field of view.

Sorry for taking it off topic but for Dangan Ronpa fanbase they do have some Tumblr roleplays which they go through make their own version of the School mutual killings and trials and it does offer some twists on the Dangan Ronpa formula. This probably doesn't compare but I just it would be fair to show their fan made stuff.

Onto something sonic related I do like the sonic games although I haven't play that many so I can't say much for the games excluding sonic 1,2 and Sonic and the secret rings since those are the only ones I played and I enjoyed them alot.

It does seem like that Team 2FAST2QUICK got there crap together, a lot of the newer games have got good scores except Lost World which has scores all over the place.

I'm an avid sonic fan so much so that I had "no" issues with 06 and I beat the whole game 100% in 3 days when I first got it, and strangely in like every sonic game I've played except lost world haven't played that yet, but in all the games I loooooove the very first stage themes the most usually X3

I really don't think basing reception off of review scores is a good idea. I mean, look at what happened over at Bethesda for New Vegas. Besides, there are known troll reviewers who will slam any game they want as long as it gets attention (Jim Sterling, anyone?).

Let's play All Stars Transformed on PC like

Saturday

yeah let's do it.

Also unpopular opinion incoming but: Sonic Adventure 2 is a really good fucking game. The ONLY thing bad about the gameplay are the Tails/Eggman sections, everything else is gold.
Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 were both fantastic games. SA1 had its flaws but Sonic levels were great.
In SA2 I really enjoyed Eggman levels but I would have prefered another gameplay style for Tails. The ability to control the Bad Evil Genius Doctor Eggman was just great!!

In Sonic Generations, the best levels were the Classic ones. I don't like the current "Modern" Sonic, his leveles look more like QTE. I wish to get gampelay like SA1 or 2 back!

Oh man, when I clicked that link to check out Chrono Adventure, I noticed a recent article saying the Classic Sonic box-art illustrator had passed away. http://www.tssznews.com/2014/01/06/greg-martin-sonic-video-game-box-cover-artist-dies/

It's funny, I never knew who that guy was, but having done covers for Adventure Island/Taz-Mania/Bonk's Adventure/etc., as well as storyboards for all those classic Hanna-Barbera toons...he obviously had a massive impact on our childhoods. Game box-art isn't given much love, but guys like him definitely put in a lot of work. Huge props to Greg Martin!

EDIT: Wow, Greg's tribute thread has some really cool stuff in it. A couple people even posted up original sketches from some of the old covers. It's crazy to think that he had mere days to crank out some of this art, and without the aid of Photoshop!

Damn, he passed away!? That's a shame, hope he rests in peace. He made some fucking rad Covers.

Yeah, I feel like we're probably going to be losing more legends really soon. What's sad is a lot of these guys didn't really get any recognition for their work, so many of us never even knew their names. I remember way back when Gunpei Yokoi died, I was like "Huh? Who's that?...oh......OHHHHH!!!" A little credit blurb was about the most I would have ever known about him before then.

I think we're lucky today with games like Skullgirls, where we not only get to know who the creators are, but we also get to know them as people (just a little). It's awesome to appreciate the game industry from more angles than just the end product.

I never realized that he made so many things, including the ones I hold dear while others I had no idea about. May he rest in peace.

Rest in peace Greg Martin. :(

Sonic the Hedgehog 3's cover will always be my favorite. Can't count how many times I tried to redraw it as a kid, yet I could never do Knuckles' eyes correctly. He always ended up looking like Sonic.^^;

Today it was revealed at a press conference that the Sonic Boom designs are the new redesign for Sonic for 2014 onward. Sonic and Amy apparently wear sports tape.

Well, this is gonna go over well. T_T

I'm soooooooo worried now ^^;

...Hmm....wow knuckles......

I wish they gave knuckles his treasure hunting hat for nostalgia reasons.

This knuckles got jacked. I don't mind the redesigns much although knuckles might be too jacked...

EDIT: what's with the wrappings on their arms and leg parts?

I agree with you on Knuckles. I guess they want to emphasize him being the muscle of the team.

well when I was younger like in the one digits I thought wrapping was a really cool look, so maybe since this is also for an new kids show right? Maybe kids think the wrapping style look is badass or appealing.....just trying to make sense of it ^^;

TSSZ has learned through a reliable source significant details pertaining to the upcoming Sonic Boom franchise. We are, of course, referring to the revelation learned just in the last few minutes that Sonic Boom is part of a larger franchise relaunch encompassing the already known television series, video games, and a toy line from Tomy.

First, our source has told TSSZ hat the Sonic Boom video game is at least planned as the third Nintendo exclusive title. Whether it will remain exclusive to Nintendo is up for debate at the moment–in part because of the much discussed Jazwares sign at the International Toy Fair last weekend that hinted at a 2015 Sonic for Wii U, XBOX One, and Playstation 4, and in part because our source does not know whether the Sega/Nintendo partnership ended prematurely. Also, recall that our initial report on the Boom franchise cited both a proper console and mobile release. We are working to learn more on this front.

Second, our source tells TSSZ that Sega plans to make Sonic Boom the main Sonic canon going forward–in effect making it a complete franchise reboot and confirming our story from two years ago. However, our source cautions this too could change, and how fans react to news of the reboot could significantly impact how it changes. In short: Your voice matters more than ever.

Third, our source has confirmed development of Boom is being handled by an American studio and not Sonic Team. However, we do not know yet what specific studio is handling the game. We’ve also learned theBoom video game will be a 3D platformer that emphasizes exploration, and at this stage has multiple playable characters. How many? We don’t have those specific details.

We are working to get more information. Stay with TSSZ for more on this big, breaking and quickly evolving story as it develops.

In my opinion, Sonic Boom should be a sub series instead of a reboot. Remember, Sonic 06 was suppose to be a series reboot as well and look how that turned out.

This could be either very good, or very very bad.
I'm actually kind of not looking forward to fandom reactions.
Usually salt's funny, but the Sonic Fandom? That's...that's something that scares me.

Also those designs aren't half-bad.
I expected them to be worse, but Sonic looks pretty OK!
Knuckles being really ripped is kinda jarring, though.

Knuckles has been hitting the roids pretty hard there.

And here I was, actually starting to believe that Sega knew what they wanted to do with this character.

Seriously, watching Sonic's career has been like watching the flight path of a kid's paper airplane. Sure, the new designs aren't terrible, but this whole reboot is just completely unnecessary. Unless the new game they're planning turns out to be the best of the whole freakin' franchise, the Sonic fanbase is just going to be divided even further.

Eh, I'm not putting stock into the TSSZ stuff. Apparently, it isn't exactly a reliable source of news. (It once said Vectorman and Segata Sanshiro would be in Sonic and All-Stars Transformed. They weren't.)

Here is a trailer of Sonic Boom. I kind of like how it looks.

Oh, fuck I ain't trusting TSSZ. No, this is all coming from official sources now. It's all confirmed true at this point.

I actually didn't realize we had a Sonic Thread here on Skullheart until now. I'll certainly have to get around to gushing about my favorite Sonic 3 and Knuckles BGMs when the subject is on the series's music.

Don't worry Lava Reef Zone, you'll get your chance. Soon.

OT: It's funny to me that of all of the changes that were made to the characters, the only changes I liked were for Tails (barring Sonic's scarf; that was pretty cool). The goggles and gear fit him well, he has a viable attack now (lazers > fake ring boxes), and his proportions haven't been messed with in a distracting way.

I have no interest in the game, as I have given up on all new Sonic, but I have to give credit where it's due: that is a really good Tails redesign.

anyone notice how whenever someone says "human shouldnt be in sonic games" they never seem to notice who Sonic has fought all these years?
