Don't BS me, how HARD is this game?

Uh wut?

Sweep?

Sweep into Pillar into super?

Someone test that shit out.

Uh wut?

Sweep?
Only option. Sweep puts them in invincible knockdown state. Sweep into bike might help catch them teching.

Can you do sweep into Pillar?

Does sweep automatically kick you back?

You can't combo off of sweep. She could make it whiff and punish, or throw the Bike out safely and it grabs the LnL.

You can't combo off her sweep?

Unfortunate?

Any.

That is except for Fortune first hit and painwheels charged heavy kick.

I guess grounded?

I've do sweep into devil horns while they were already floating.

Because they don't tech? It's not like she's completely helpless, she does have j.hk and the bike, plus just jumping the damn thing and whiff punishing.

You can combo off of Cerebella's sweep in devil horn loops

OK guys since I'm no longer driving let me be clearer on what I said.

If someone gets hit by a sweep while standing, crouching, jumping or doing a special or super move, they will be 100% invincible until they hit the ground, with the exception of Painwheel's charged sweep or Fortune's first hit of c.HK. When they hit the ground they can tech immediately even with meaty attacks.

HOWEVER, if someone gets hit by a sweep as an OTG as stated before, it does not have the sweep result since every OTG hit lifts them the same height.

So YES, you could combo from sweeps. But NO, not from raw sweep to counter LnL or other armored moves.

Spent a good amount of time in this game, was definitely way too hard to even enjoy(as I expected.)

How long is a "good amount of time"? Fighting games require A LOT of time

If it's "as you expected" you were never going to enjoy the game to begin with because it implies that you made your decision before playing the game.

I'm sorry to see you feel that way, but I hope you were able to learn something helpful from your experience with SG. Try not to take it too seriously right off the bat, it's always more fun to just dink around with friends before taking a game seriously.

If you ever change your mind, we'll be here.

Enough time to find out I didn't enjoy myself at all.

Not really I gave it an honest chance, I made sure to get my bnbs down and do the things necessary in training mode, like Chris G said, people make you better, so I went online as soon as I felt comfortable.

However, I spent more time watching my character die, than playing and having fun.

Learning bnbs != learning the game. That's just one part of it. You need match experience, knowing how to do even the most optimal combos in the game means absolutely nothing if you can't land a hit or know the actual flow of the game.

What would you rather me do? Just hop into online without practicing anything?

If you haven't gone through the tutorials yet, I recommend you do. It goes over the basics of fundamentals in fighting games.

If you're getting beat too hard, try playing people closer to your skill level.

If you list anything specific you're having trouble with, we could give you pointers.

If you don't enjoy it you can't force yourself to. You may like the game functionally and even like the artstyle and gameplay but it sounds like you're just not enjoying playing. This issue is exacerbated if you only play online (online is a sure fire way to make you hate a game no matter how good the netcode is.)

Maybe SG just isn't for you. If it's not it's no big deal, just find a game you enjoy and play that instead.

Judging by all the posts you've made in this thread, it seems like you have some weird pre conceived notions about how fighting games should be, like you expect them to be easier or something.

And I never said "don't bother learning combos" I said that you need experience playing. It seemed to me like you were implying that learning your bnbs should've been enough to not get bodied.

Once you do hop online, try doing lobby matches with people at your skill level (will require some work to find them) over just quick matches. I found lobbies to be more enjoyable and I improve more.

I spent time getting destroyed 0-200 before I got my first win...

It's part of the learning process. As you can see, the game has a pretty massive skill curve. If you can't put in the time to get better, then fighting games in general aren't for you.

I make the notion now that I did not read the rest of the thread other than the starting post.

Skullgirls is not hard to get into. It is easy to understand the controls and movement. It is harder to understand fighting game mechanics if you are unaware of them. It is harder than that to create combos, as it requires the knowledge of mechanics. It is harder than that to fight an opponent because they will always have to keep these aformentioned things in their head whilst battling you. It is even harder than that in the long run because you will have to create things that leave the opponent guessing to keep your edge ( optimized combos, resets, mixups ).

The game becomes very hard then, once you get into all the possibilities.

This definitely isn't a complete list of all the things you need to know, and I'm sure it's not an accurate one either.

Just be glad you're not learning King Of Fighters XIII

What part of that is supposed to be fun? Just curious, because at the end of the day it is a game.

Different people have different definitions of fun, and what they expect from games. If losing a bunch for a long while just to learn how to play doesn't sound appealing to you, that's fine. But, that's what's fighting games are about, so if you don't want to deal with it it's probably not the genre for you.

I guess the thrill of fighting/playing and winning is fun. But when you lose, all that fun is taken away from you and all is left is just salt

p much, I was playing with my friend earlier today and I had some pretty hype wins, although my excitement quickly vanished when she started winning. That's probably because we're both assholes to each other.

I can't say to much other then improve your game and start enjoying it or just quit.
I think the reason though, I've stayed so long is because the actual characters for me, since I love them so much, I tended to stick around just for the character development alone.

Maybe play someone at your own level? It's the same with any fighting game. You don't go into evo top 5 after a few days of playing and expect to do well.

I guess its different for everybody. I focus on the excitement that happens mid match, so ultimately whether I win or lose does not really effect my favorite part of the game (that mid match excitement). The same is true for how I approach all my games.

When I picked up Skullgirls, I didn't concentrate on winning either. The joys and goals per match were from smaller things. I didn't get perfected -> I did that super setup -> I blocked that tricky move -> I taunted and got away with it -> I ko'd one of 3 characters -> etc. I just took fun from controlling my characters, enjoyed the ride, and after enough time and unknowingly acquired experience, the wins started flowing in on their own.

I ko'd one of 3 characters

Call me a stalking butt, but you put your Steam name in your profile, Blaze, so I looked you up. The thread is 2 months and you've had the game for at least 1,5 months.

You said you spent a good amount of time in-game. Your profile suggests that's 7 hours total in that time. Based on your achievements, you haven't completed any story mode (I'm assuming you didn't go against AI just about at all, then) + you apparently didn't complete the tutorial beforehand. You might be very well missing knowledge of fundamental game mechanics. What result could you have realistically expected when hopping online?

You don't seem to be even trying, either to give the game the chance nor to show us that you're trying to. Instead it looks like while you don't have the time/will to go through the in-game lessons, you have found both to complain online.

If I only spent seven hours on the game, there would be no point in posting in this thread. The majority of my SG playing was offline and on PS3 with an IRL friend.

The more I lost the more I learned about the game and better ways to play. So yes, I considered that fun. Honestly it's been like 6 pages now, at this point it's clear you're interested in the game.

To me, fun is getting beat so hard it forces me to think. And once the result works, I enjoy the benefits.

But without matchup experience, you won't be able to know how to react to strategies. Play a lot. It'll show you what each character can do and, more importantly, what you can do against it.

So @FGC _Blaze , what's your feelings about the game now?
The game is good, but, but trying to play a new fighting game is not for me right now. I just hate watching my character get its ass beat over and over again, which is not fun, so I'm going to stop playing, but I appreciate the overall civility, and helpfulness of the thread. If you guys can keep the same attitude towards new players your scene will def. grow.

Well, enjoy whatever pastures you move on to and hopefully we'll see you around again at some tournaments. Until then, remember, not every game has as mashable supers as SG, so mash accordingly.
