Don't Get Cooked Goose, git gud

After the last few days of play, I got feedback/wisdom from other players and a new plan is formed.

Wisdom:
  • If Val gets snapped out, the whole team sort of falls apart -> Practice team like this has happened
  • Fortune has no real pressure or mixups -> Practice this shit
  • Actually put time into learning headless Fortune -> Converting off an airthrow p much requires going into headless for max damagezz
  • PBGC > Jab
  • Trying Alpha Countering out of bursts instead of not bursting and getting bopped with the follow up grab.

Double/Fortune is probably going to be my team comp for the next few weeks until I git gud.

headless is not worth your time.

also you have airthrow super which saves the otg depending on how fast you are

  • If Val gets snapped out, the whole team sort of falls apart -> Practice team like this has happened

90% of why I'm running point Filia.

the other 10% being that she's my weakest/newest character, and I want to guarantee that she sees play deeper than an incoming mixup > reset > dead.

Been leaving chat while I hit that training modo, totes less distracting.

Worked on:
Fortune block/pressure strings at mid screen and corner
->Then I recorded somethings for reversals to test tightness and my reactions to the reversal
Did the same sort of thing with a mixup

Then I hopped into a training match with gllt to try these things "live". Was a good chance to test execution and compare my thoughts for what Parasoul would do with what a "real" "Parasoul" would "do".

Played Stuff and did my best to not make bad assist calls. I've got a real issue with counter-calling too early. If my assist whiffs I need play a little smarter and not just jump in for a free happy birthday.

Since the Wildstar grind is p much over, I'm back to this game.

Notes from sets with Duck y Uzu:
(Went into these games with the mindset of not winning, but trying to pick up on their neutral/decision making)
  • Duck does more than mindlessly low > low > low > hope for a confirm > rest of combo. Example with Val (iirc) cr.lk -> Did they pushblock? -> no = grab -> yes = assist + cr.hk (or something along these lines)
    • Take away from this is to practice something similar in lab.
  • When I played Uzu, since I've seen some of his matches / paid attention in IRC, I knew he was gonna raw tag if I dropped a combo or attempted a reset. Unsurprisingly he did! This seemed very true if I carried his Parasoul to the corner. ex) Alpha Counter (Bella) -> super grab ex) attempted a j.HP reset in the corner and got bella tagged
    • Attempts to bait sometimes worked, but I normally fugged up the punish.
There are defs more things I learned in these matches, but they were ages ago.

Sloppy play on stream o boy

Goals for GirlyStyle's douchefest:
  • Work on confirming off raw cr.LK (ie not braindeading into MK)
  • Get Val burst bait / post-burst combo down
  • Work on carrying Main + assist to corner
    • AND succesfully
  • Do same for MFortune
Seems feasible to do before the 20th

Things I remembered from talking to Severin yesterday (apologies if if you didn't say these things):

General:
  • Know how many touches/resets until death at each ratio
  • Know the risk/reward for all possible situations
On Practicing:
  • Set play - play out any imaginable situation over and over
  • "Call out your shots" - say what reset you're going to do and then do it. Make sure you can do what you intend to do
  • Practicing confirming off of weird/stray hits
  • If you have to think about what you're doing in a match, you haven't practiced enough
On Watching Old Footage:
  • After identifying "what went wrong" look at the events that lead up to the situation.
    • Can you beat it? Is it worth it to try? Can you avoid the situation entirely?
    • Sometimes it isn't the actual reset/mixup that's the issue but what happened before it.

Man that's really good advice. Particularly the last item under practicing. I tend to improvise a lot with my resets and as a result I'm frequently not sure how much more I need in order to get a kill. I should figure out the math on that stuff.

If you ever have the chance to force a good player to answer all your dumb questions, do it.

Don't think

The git gud things I can remember.

How to fight Solos:
+ you can be very reckless with your calls and more cautious with your point because counter calls, alpha counters, and their healing mechanics literally do not exist.

U thought, U lose:
+ don't think ever at all under any circumstance or you're dead immediately forever and always RIP in peace you.

MK Bomber vs. LK Bomber:
+ MK Bomber takes a bit more patience/planning where LK is a more reactive "they pushed an assist button, now i will bomber for immediate reward"
+ The thing that helped me the most was something Peanuts told me during my play with him, "Countercalling is not really an intricate thing so much as just having the discipline to not call your assist until after they do." with the general idea of how long it takes to get your characters on screen and how long it takes for theirs to get off.

Throw:
+ More

Sev's mental checklist of available reset options:
+ Sev considers each chain as a general point for a reset and has a sort of mental list of resets the he wants to do decided before (or as soon as) he has the touch. Not necessarily a flowchart as he's got player vs. player reads/decisions he's making, but a general idea of when in combos he wants to reset based on how likely they are to succeed based on their conditioning and the risk/reward of each.

Caffeine:
+ 9 gummy bears for 30mg of caffeine is a bad deal and no one should accept this offer

How to incoming mixup:
+ first stage: are they mashing, blocking, or double jumping
+ second stage: left/right or airthrow are most common. airthrow beats double jump, i kind of forgot the rest of what beats what and i am very upset about it

your u thought u lose thing will get you rekt

it was in the context of combos/execution and having them practiced for consistency, not autopiloting the match

<hilary> do you remember the incoming mixup things we talked about
<ChooseGoose> for fortune or ?
<hilary> like.. at the restaurant we asked how to do incomings because we suck at them
<hilary> and sev was like "oh, they can double jump, mash, or block"
<ChooseGoose> shit lemme remember
<ChooseGoose> oh yes that
<hilary> "airthrow beats double jump"
<hilary> then i forgot the rest
<ChooseGoose> throw beats jump/block
<ChooseGoose> block + assist call beats mash
<hilary> yessssssss that was it

Filia things

You can convert Bomber calls with
  • dash > IAD jMP jHK
  • wavedash sMP sHP or sMK sHP
  • H-hairball > dash cancel > whatever
  • raw gregor
Throw conversions
  • H-Ringlet > Gregor
  • Raw Gregor
  • Whiff L-Updo > Gregor (not sure if/how/when air gregor changes are going in that would affect this)
Approaches
  • IAD airthrow > cLK or throw
  • IAD jLK jHK
  • IAD jMP jHK
  • IAD jHK
  • other things i forget but the airthrow whiff is the big one
Basic Corner combo:
cLK sHP
jHP jHK H-Airball adc jMP* jHK**
sLK sMP cMK cHP H-Hairball
OTG cLP sLK sMP cMK cHP H-Hairball x Fenrir
* if you want to reset here and go for low/throw, you can do jMP jHP and the jHP fastfalls well
** if you have high undizzy going in, cut this jHK if it would prevent you from getting the OTG chain
