Ok, I think I just have to accept it. I'm a perma scrub.
I can't do combos, I mash often, and most of all, I just don't have the mental stability to handle the stress of this.

Thinking of dropping out of playing SG for good.
Forever a scrub....

I feel for you, I really do. But don't give up, if someone as clumsy and dense as me can get better, so can you. I'm sending you a friend request on PSN, I'll teach you all I know.

Again, IsaVulpes has best advice for improving when you feel like you can't get anywhere in this game.

Keep playing.

1. Practice combos. It takes a few hours to get something down in training mode. Do it until you can do it with your eyes closed, then you won't have to worry about execution during a match.
2. Stop mashing. That one seems like a pretty easy thing to improve on...
3. Focus on improving on one thing at a time. I would suggest that thing be blocking for starters.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
TL;DR know the game
Also, you only truly know the game by playing it. Get beaten often, but try to understand why you lost.

“Let your plans be dark and impenetrable as night, and when you move, fall like a thunderbolt.”

“If your enemy is secure at all points, be prepared for him. If he is in superior strength, evade him. If your opponent is temperamental, seek to irritate him. Pretend to be weak, that he may grow arrogant. If he is taking his ease, give him no rest. If his forces are united, separate them. If sovereign and subject are in accord, put division between them. Attack him where he is unprepared, appear where you are not expected .”
TL;DR focus on the enemy's weaknesses.

“There are not more than five musical notes, yet the combinations of these five give rise to more melodies than can ever be heard.
There are not more than five primary colours, yet in combination they produce more hues than can ever been seen.
There are not more than five cardinal tastes, yet combinations of them yield more flavours than can ever be tasted.”
TL;DR learn your playstyle

“One may know how to conquer without being able to do it. ”
basically, even though you know how to do a combo or a tech or whatever shit you're planning, you may not be able to perform it if you don't practice enough.

“The whole secret lies in confusing the enemy, so that he cannot fathom our real intent.”

“Knowing the enemy enables you to take the offensive, knowing yourself enables you to stand on the defensive.”

Also don't be a wimp.

also wrestle a bear to death then eat it in front of its cubs
then raise the cubs as your own and teach them how to play fighting games
then you could be the guy that enters bears into fighting game tournaments

Get it all out there now guys 'cause this thread is going to get locked eventually.

I know you guys are trying to tell me to not give up, but you don't really understand what my mind is. Trust me, I'm only killing myself(possibly literally) through stress by keeping with this. I may not want to accept it but if it means perserving what's left of me...

dude it's just a video game
it's not a big deal
just practice and learn what you can and you'll get better

If you don't think a game is fun, then of course you shouldn't fell pressured to play it. If you do think skullgirls is fun, then try to relax and focus on enjoying it rather than just winning.

The best advise I can give is: Don't care about losing. It's part of the process, don't let it get to you. I often find myself playing against someone way better than me (not only in SG but various games) and losing nonstop for an hour or so. These situations are great learning opportunities. There is nothing to learn from a win.
Also, fighting games are hard. Deal with it.

Actually, there's twelve.

Sun Tzu obviously wasn't much of a musician.

moved thread to proper forum

I'm surprised nobody said "git gud" yet

I absolutely hate when new players come in and don't explain what problems they have in detail. So my advice is to go into Training Room and Tutorials. The tutorials will make a man out of you, trust me.

Actually I think he's just looking for attention, nothing in the original post implies that core wants help to get better, he's just moping and complaining about how hard everything is.

Git Gud by...
1) Get the moping out of the system. Most people have made a thread like this lamenting their current state. This was mine. Now that you've had it, move on and improve.
2) Practicing Inputs. Do 20 inputs (quarter circle forward, dragon punch, etc) in a row with good form. Now do it on the other side. Now do some different buttons before you get to it (for an example, sLK, sMP, sHP, QCF+PP). Then introduce more things
3) Practice a good bnb (check the forums, there's a couple of threads regarding these for each character) and have some good reset points
4) Use the bnb against the computer to see how you do under some pressure.
5) Create a beginner lobby and fight there. If non-beginner's come in and be dicks, leave and make a new one. Or go on the forums and check beginner meetup thread.
6) When you lose, don't hit rematch immediately, think about why you lost and how to change it (ex, I realized that I was relying on kanchou too much, so I told myself to not use it during the next match to see if it would change things. It did)

It's more for explaining how much SG is starting to stress me out FYI.

Why are you letting a game stress you out?

Why are you letting a game stress you out?
I can see why. If it's something I've put time into (regardless of the hobby) yet I'm not seeing changes in results, it would (and does) stress me to. It shouldn't, but it does.

Actually, Killer, take a solid 2 week break from the game and come back. You may see a change for the better.

DeathArcana, you wouldn't believe all things I've tried and put time into in life just to find somewhere I can belong other than the trash can.

I can agree with this. When you put time, and effort, into something you care about. You want to be good at it. And finding out you're not, just makes life worse for you. All that time and effort for nothing.

Now multiply that by 20-30 and you have my life in the nutshell.

1. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses, don't feel bad. There are things you are probably amazing at, you just haven't found them yet.

2. Maybe it would help to not look at Skullgirls as a competition, as in trying to be the best or whatever, but simply as a game. Something fun to do, win or lose.

I loathe pity parties but i'm going to be nice, for a beginner i simply ask that you try to learn fundamentals. Learn what moves do what and how to apply them. You need to actually study your character.

I'm going to ask some questions and I want you to answer me(nobody else) and they will help

1) If an opponent is jumping at me, what should I do?(what moves exactly)
2) What are some reversals so I don't have to deal with pressure
3) What are good ways to get in if i have to deal with zoning
4) What are some baby combos i can use to get damage( ex. st. lp, st. mp, st. hp x2, qcf+lp)
5) what are some safe ways of getting in my opponents face
6) How do i keep my opponent out

do me a favor, hit the lab and answer me

The problem is the position I'm in. I don't want to look at SG as competition, but when you can't get a job for the life of you and tourneys start looking like the only source of real income...

im pretty sure you have the wrong attitude if you are looking at this game as a source of income

I sincerely doubt that you're anywhere near the point where you'd make money from tournaments if you "can't do combos."

The road is right in front of you, there are all the resources in the world on how to improve, there has been a ton of encouragement, and none of your excuses hold water. Do you seriously think that everybody else is so incompetent that you'd be able to beat them without trying to even learn the game?

If I'm reading this correctly:
(do note that I'll be going off what I already know so far)

Ms. Fortune
1) lp. Fiber Upper(or hp fiber if safe to do so), headless s. HK.
2) Fiber Upper(any), s.lp, grabs.
3) ZOOM!, super jumps, air dashing.
4a) s.lp, s.lk, s.mk, s.hk, lp Cat Scratch(ending with either normal last hit or cat slide)
4b) s.mk, s.hk, H Fiber Upper, j.lk, j.mk, j.hk.
5) ZOOM!, Fiber Upper into launch, cat scratch(if safe to do so)
6) j.hk, lk or mk cat spike, push backs, assists when use right.

Uh...I never said that or even thought about that?
Also, I never said I wanted this game to be my income, I was saying I really don't want to be forced to go down that route.

That. Also SG tournaments are more social events cuz we poverty. E-sports ran away with all the money. They're not as hype tho.

Don't play competitive Skullgirls to make money, play Street Fighter. Also don't play fighting games to make money, play mobas. Also don't play video games to make money.

Ok, good!
Now, what are some good resets/mix-ups with fortune

For the tourney money part, I meant to say tourneys in general, not just SG, Sorry for not clarifying.

@agent13, I was kind of scared I'd get a lot of them wrong, lol. Anyways, mix-ups, hmm....

Alternating the last hit on Cat Scratch seems like one. A c.Hk that, if blocked, go into Cat Spike(think you can, right?), or grab if it's safe.

Resets....uh....I'll need to figure that out still.
