Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2014 Thread

I liked Sony best for E3 2014 but I have to admit that this stuff is funny.

Awaiting that one image of Splatoon...

Still waiting for that "ペイントローラーだ‼" image.

*how tough are ya*
that's a good pun.

also i REALLY like halo. but mostly more for the single player and firefight stuff.

and grifball.

Yeah. I'm still getting it, but that's an issue Nintendo needs to fix as soon as possible. I try to refrain from downloading large games unless it's at a great price.....like free: Pikmin 3/Bayonetta 1.

I would be a ton more okay with it if the wii u came with a hard drive not assembled by tiny sentient ants for use with their tiny ant computers. And if the games were actually tied to my NNID and not the hardware.
I don't know why companies seem to think people will buy games digitally if they make them objectively worse deals than buying the physical copy... I'm not afraid of digital games, but you have to give some extra benefits with them since physical, disc copies already have the bonus of just coming in a nifty case and not taking hard drive space.

It seems that Ubisoft is not going to include female playable characters in AC Unity because doing so would apparently "double the work" needed on the game. Somebody promptly made a Skullgif condemning them for their perceived sexism:
I love it when companies bullshit up a random excuse that nobody with half a brain is going to take instead of just saying "We're very sorry, we'll do this better in the future." Even ignoring people is better than pulling something out of your ass.
Remember when Ubisoft defended restrictive DRM by claiming that 95% of the people who own a given pc game pirated it?

I'm willing to bet bison dollars on who it was...

that is a very shit excuhose if I do say so myself.
I have mixed feeling about it really. At this specific point in time what they're saying is accurate. They're already in crunch mode and modeling new characters/costumes, giving them proper animations (yay boob/hair physics), contracting/recording more voice actors, editing sound, changing the script in a meaningful way that doesnt make them feel tacked on (saying npc's would react the same to females/males in that time period is BS and would feel off), debugging what ever arises from adding more content, and what ever I'm leaving out.....all that can really add up, especially considering the game should go gold in about 3 months.

That being said, if they'd planned for it earlier they could have done it.

And that being said, I'm not sure it really matters. On one hand you could argue that the lack of female assassins fits with that cultures' views of women. On the other hand one could say that assassins should have a much more liberal view on women and would be more proactive as assassins. On a third hand (just go with it) who even gave that answer? The writers, a designer, a programmer, an artist, etc? The person who answers can very well change the context and reactions to the answer.

In any case, of all the ways to explain that was among the worst. Silence would have been better.

the most notable and famous assassin the french revolution era was, in fact, a woman

boom

If you're talking about Charlotte Corday, yeah she was the most iconic assassin from the French Revolution. But she actively undermined her own agenda by killing Jean-Paul Marat. She was then tried and killed while her victim became a martyr.

I haven't played AC since the second one, but I assume that the game doesn't have you pull an Altair and directly shoot yourself in the foot like she did.

[Reads up on her to become more knowledgable]

....doesn't everything she did go against the assassins code? Maybe I can see her as a associate of the assassins order, but not as an assassins. We don't need another Altair.

Basically my point. I think it would be interesting if they were to tie her assassination into the plot, maybe give one of the brothers the same target and when you get there she's already done the deed and alerted the guards. You'd need to get out before the guards can apprehend you and without a trace to eliminate suspicion towards the order.

Assassins: The evil Templars want to take away our freedom...to shank people for money. It's crystal clear we're the good guys here!

Those series are just so painfully pretentious, I can't even tell if it's satire or not. And I'm not even throwing "fratboy that channels ancestors every time he can't find his car keys" into the equation.

Anyway, as for the matter proper, it's as Covenant pointed out - at this point in development, yeah, adding the female model would be remarkably costly. That said, they could add a playable squirrel if they wanted, from all the money they make selling their glitchy messes.

OK, now that I got all that nerd venom out of my system, if anyone's interested in absurd res art assets from this E3, the following delivers: http://www.game-saga.com/tag/artwork/
I'm talking a 5Mb Shia here. º3º

I've been told that if you skip all spinoff games in the series and just go 1, 2, 3 the AC series is pretty good. I did like the first 2 despite some of their flaws so...yeah.

Outside of the Rayman -official- series, I dislike everything Ubisoft makes. Expecially their take on italian culture. Fuck I want to kill their writers

Then I guess I bet on the wrong horse, so to speak. Never played any but watched a playthrough of 4 (most of it). Gameplaywise, it's the dumbest AI I've ever seen, it makes getting ninja kills in MGRR look like a major accomplishment. Storywise, again, it's that deal with the "Templars = Bad, Assassins = Good" and, overall, I would have given the series a try if it weren't for the present day bits.
Side note, I loved how Ubisoft's all like "we do not celebrate piracy" but the game's all like "GOVERNMENT IS EVIL AND WANTS TO TAKE YOUR FREEDOM! BEING A PIRATE IS TOTALLY AWESOME AND THEY WERE ACTUALLY UNSUNG HEROES STICKING IT TO THE MAN!"

Wait til the upcoming game with the French all wearing berets, carry baguettes and finish their sentences with "oh!oh!oh!"

Moving on, there was a E3 trailer for Hyper Light Drifter, the indie RPG coming to every system except PS3. :(
Normally, I'm done with these ghetto looking indie games but I think there's some charm to this one. Probably the OST; it's a aspect that can be a deal maker or let me overlook the flaws.

I've always been a huge fan of the Assassin's Creed series despite it's obvious flaws but I agree that Ubisoft's excuse is unacceptable and they're digging themselves a pretty deep hole.

Now for E3, I didn't see enough hype for the horror genres this time around. I didn't even know about the new Alien game until I read a tweet about it.

Honestly, they could have just said "we didn't think about it and its a bit late to change it now. sorry." and people would have been okay with it.

irritated sure, but at least show you're WILLING to do it if the situation was something you could have been aware of.

Already a week since the convention. Wow.

The game that really made me go "woah," was No Mans Sky. That is the EXACT type of game I wanna play right now. Really need to upgrade my PC so I can run it at 60fps.

The Witcher 3 was the other game that I wanna play also, but I knew about it already.

Gonna keep tabs on MKX, wasn't expecting to be that interested in it, but there could be potential there

Me personally, i think a game EVERYONE should be on the lookout for is phantom dust. Its a cult classic x box game that had little marketing and went unnoticed by the masses... But was in all reality a really fantastic game. A basic gist of what phantom dust is:

A 3rd person shooter (many of the spells are skill shots and need to be aimed)
A card game with rpg elements via building your deck
A fighter in the vein of smash or power stone
Has racing elements with controlling your character at faster speeds
Has moba qualities as well

Really it was a fantastic game from a design perspective but it did fail in certain aspects of its overall execution. But that was og xbox. Now with it coming to xbone, the sky's the limit. You can play 1v1 or have free for alls or teams or whatever.

I'm really excited about this game, it was a stunning original concept and I'm really glad it is getting a second chance. Now all i need is a twisted metal that DOESNT suck, and the world will be a beautiful place.

Cuff Button...

Why the hell was he named Cuff Button? Who would give a character that name?

I still to this day think about that guy's name occasionally after I’ve just woken up or while taking a shower. I remember loving the game and it did a lot to change many of the negative perceptions I had of TCGs at the time. It’s a shame that there probably aren’t that many people out there that still own an original Xbox and are willing to muck about with getting online play to work via system link.

...Cuff Button

Sounds like a silly name to give to your cat
And your cat will hate you for it

I think we're gonna need a Splatoon thread, because the fanmade stuff keeps coming and this thread is meant to be for E3. Speaking of fanmade stuff, here's a chiptune remix of Splatoon's main theme:
