I haven't noticed one up here yet.

I recently got F-Zero GX and have been having a blast with it. Anyone else a fan of the series?

F-Zero 64 was my shit. I really loved it. At a certain point, though, like most Nintendo franchises, it just stopped appealing to me. It's kind of a dead IP, regardless, the most you'll ever see of it is DLC for Mario Kart :/

I never played the 64 version, I'll have to check it out.
As much as I want a new F-Zero, I have a feeling it won't live up to GX... I'm on the fence about a new F-Zero game.

I bought F-Zero for the first time on the Wii U Virtual Console and it wasn't bad at all. Of course, I tend to go off road and crash. I just listened to F-Zero GX's soundtrack and I want to give that a shot.

F-Zero's awesome. I've said this before, but I actually find the F-Zero universe more intriguing than the Zelda universe. There's just such a wild mix of characters with different motivations in F-Zero, and unlike a lot of Nintendo franchises, the lines between good and bad are pretty blurry. It's even better when you remember that F-Zero, Metroid, and Star Fox are all occurring around the same time, so you can imagine these characters actually crossing paths occasionally.

As far as the games go, I had probably the most fun with GX. I almost had all of the stuff unlocked until my GC cleared the memory card, along with my Echoes save. I'd love to be good enough at the game again to get all of my stuff back, but it's just a lot of work. You definitely get your money's worth out of that game though.

yo, I don't care if it's not even half as good as GX.
I don't care if it's basically as fast as the original SNES game.
    I just want a new F-Zero.

Haven't played an F-Zero since X (N64) Didn't get GX b/c I didn't have a GC. Really hoping they bring back the series as I always loved it. One of those white knuckle, grit your teeth games that always kept you on edge.

I'm glad that you can unlock the AX racers because the nearest AX arcade machine is in Sunnyvale, not traveling that far. Sucks how difficult it is, though.

I remember that years ago i used to do homework with GX's music in the background, my favorite track being Dr. Stewart's theme and Planet Colors.

Dr. Stewart's theme is badass, no doubt. I also liked some of the other ones like Spade's and Blood Falcon's, but they were cool in much different ways.

What's crazy about those themes is that some of them had arguably more production value than the actual course music, but they only played at a couple points in the game. They were totally just put in as added touches for the characters, which is awesome.

F-Zero X was one of my fondest childhood memories. I got GX a couple months back and I'm still having fun with it. Wish I had the skillz to unlock everything though. No way I'm finding AX anywhere near me and I feel dirty not unlocking things legitimately.

I still want a new game.

Start with mission 3 and 2 on very hard. Mission 3 is really easy if you know how to snake.

A new F-Zero is extremely unlikely. Nintendo as a whole doesn't really see the demand (because Japan), and Miyamoto has flat out said that he doesn't want to release a new one unless they find some new mechanic or design. Plus, Miyamoto said earlier this year that they'd need to redesign the current controller interface.

even if it's just an HD version of the SNES game, I want a new fucking F-Zero.
Miyamoto should learn many of us don't care, we love F-Zero enough to just be happy with it not being dead.

  25. alexpi

"many" does not mean "financially viable". I mean, I like F-Zero too, but unless you have Miyamoto wanting to do it (or his coterie of younguns he's supposedly training) and has a control scheme that makes sense (he doesn't think the Wii U controller is appropriate to the game), then I'm fine with it being shelved. Supposedly they've been working on the successor to the Wii U for a while now, so they might do something with the IP then, but I don't want them just shoveling another one out. I mean, the Wii U controller could easily be fuckawful for a GX remaster.

On the contrary, I could see the Wii U gamepad being a really cool way to implement some new ideas for F-Zero. Have it act as Captain's Falcon Flyer thing that supposedly exists somewhere outside Smash canon and do some camerawork on the bottom screen and stuff.

I think the major problem is that Miyamoto doesn't like to go for other IPs unless they reinvent the genre or something. Which is good in some ways (see: Splatoon) but also bad in others (see: Sticker Star). So I'd rather he just give it to his proteges or outsource it or something, because quite frankly I don't trust the property being used correctly otherwise.

F-Zero with online would be one of the dopest things Nintendo would ever do, those would be short races of about 1200 kph with 12 or more players going at max speed trying to kill one each other while not falling off the tracks or crashing into a wall.

So apparently it's called Fast Racing NEO. It was actually announced earlier this year, and is the sequel to the Wiiware title Fast Racing League:
Darn! And that ship looked so close to the Fire Stingray too. They knew exactly which screenshots to tease us with.

Not yet, but supposedly it'll be featured at E3. You can look up Fast Racing League to get an idea of how it'll probably play. People say League was more similar to Wipeout than F-Zero, but I don't have as much experience with Wipeout to really compare the two.

Well, Wipeout (I only played Wipeout HD) had a focus on weapons and was much slower than F-Zero. Although Wipeout was still a fun game.

League doesn't have weapons and is slightly faster than Wipeout, but it definitely feels more of a shell of Fzero than a proper fzero, mostly with the controls not being as tight and the level design not being as creative/more bland (and obviously slower paced). But seeing as how the Wii U is quite a bit stronger and the team may have learned lessons from last time, I have better hopes for the newer game here.

I spent a ton of time on GX back in ~2009, but never really got much chance to play with real people and so eventually got bored of it. Fast Racing Neo looks cool, so I'll probably pick that up.

I'm kinda on the fence about the idea of a new version. Firstly because there's so many ways that whoever is making it could screw it up, but also because lately I've felt uncomfortable about devoting tons of time into a single game and that's exactly what I'd want to do if it's any good.

Somewhat off-topic, but I figured I'd post here in case any of you were interested - I picked up Distance on steam just now while on a flash sale, and it's pretty fun. Arcade mode kinda reminds me of GX's story mode without the insane difficulty, but there are other changes that make it different in various ways. Might not be for everyone and it's still in beta, but I found it fun for what content there is so far, so take a look if you haven't heard of it before.

Pretty sure it's not an official sequel - Steam page says it was made by a group of DigiPen graduates.

EDIT: Nevermind, same people, different publisher. Didn't realise that the original was a DigiPen game.
