That last line gave me a chuckle. I've made it to the part where the demo ends and got the Thief asterisk. It's pretty good so far.

I brought XIII-2 for the 360 and played it on my brother's 360. Then I found out you have to load up a XIII-2 file to get the "Etro's Champion" costume. Damn, looks like I'm buying XIII-2 again just for the extra content on LR. Also, no other way to get the Yuna gown in NA without preordering from Amazon, but I already PO'ed from Gamestop. Sadness.

FFVIII is definetely my favorite Final Fantasy, followed by FFVI.

The junction system is, IMO, way superior to the equipment system. The ST-Attack junction allows you to inflict the status you want while ST-Defense gives you resistance to them. Elem-Attack gives your weapon elemental power, while the Elem-Defense does the opposite. Also, every stat can be junctioned with a magic, making your characters extremely customizable.
Of couse, magic is barely used during the fight later in the game (except for Meltdowns for Vit 0 and other stuff like Curaga, Life, Esuna, Dispell, etc). GFs fall a little too, but some are still useful (Diablos against high HP enemies, Cactuar against enemies with high defense and other ones for elemental advantage)

The story is SO DAMN GOOD. It's confusing as fuck, but when you undestand it (this link has huge spoilers), everything is awesome.
Also, best soundtrack.

Hadn't played a final fantasy since final fantasy 7 on PlayStation, until I recently picked up Final Fantasy XIII-2 on sale for like 5 bucks and surprisingly enjoyed it.

I heard FFXIII-2 and Lightning REturns aren't THAT bad. And they at least finally end that particular series.

They aren't at all, which I was surprised given how despised the Final Fantasy 13 series of games seems to be. However maybe my enjoyment came from the fact I only paid 5 dollars for it. LOL Either way, I'm actually looking forward to playing Lightning Returns... when it gets marked down to 5 dollars. :-p
 
Yeah, a lot of people I've talked to say FFXIII isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be. So shrug.
I'm not looking forward to future Lightning cameos though.

Never forget how Nomura wanted to put Sazh into Dissidia so that he could be pals with Laguna (and possibly Barret)

but then Lightning's creator pitched a fit and made him put lightning instead

Given the sales of Lightning Returns, I don't think you have to worry about Lightning cameos. I actually think she's a cool looking character tho.

Lighting as a concept is okay. a silent female protagonist and whatnot. the problem is that I feel like Lightning has been portrayed in almost a fetishistic way and I'm like "yo, it's cool you like Lightning and all, but I'm not into that so could you back up on it a teeny bit?"
