I've had SG for awhile now, but I mostly played story and arcade, only recently have I found a love for the competitive scene in fighting games. Since that love, I decided to pick up Filia and just practice with her non stop. I'm not certain, but I feel like she is the Ryu of SG. Balanced in pretty much all areas of the game and a great place to start. She has some interesting mechanics, but nothing too really work around like beowolf of Robo Fortune.

Who did you start with?

I would recommend Fukua for any beginner for sure.

My first was Peacock+Parasoul. It was a very popular day 1 team because everyone was like "Hey it's like Cable with captain corridor assist!"

Fukua is the most beginner friendly character out there. Easy and universal combos, easy and efficient resets...

My first was Valentine, just because of how cool EKG Flatliner is. Later, I've started learning Bella because of a video that @Fedora_Ninja made. Later, I've started trying more characters, and since I didn't want to spend too much time learning the basics, I've started playing Fukua.

Started with Parasoul, Stuck with her

Started with Fortune/Painwheel/Cerebella, and since have only dropped Painwheel.

But yeah, if you're looking for an easy character to start with I'd say Fukua is probably a bit beginner friendly than Filia. Filia isn't difficult once you get a hit, but sometimes you have to work really hard to actually get that hit. Fukua kind of just doesn't mind not having you in blockstun, as she can chuck fireballs/shadows and force you to come to her. Although I would say if you manage to get good at Filia you'd probably have a better understanding of the game as a whole.

Like everyone said, Fukua is easy for a beginner to use. When I started playing the game, I played Filia since I enjoyed playing Rushdown characters and I liked her Blockbusters. Her air dash is very important as well. I then played with Parasoul and I liked the range in her moves and the fact that her tears are essential when detonating them or setting them off with attacks which can make your opponents guess. I played Eliza as well later on.

You have a point there, I mean Street Fighter and SG have different mechanics for sure, but Ryu kind of follows the same concept and I hear most people saying Ryu is the place to start.

Fukua is great because her combos and stuff is really easy which makes getting into the game easier and she is pretty good too so that is another plus, im told filia is good for begginers so if you like her you should stick with her :)

I think you will find that once you get into the hang of the game most of the cast really isnt that hard to play, so just play who you want

double was my first main. . .back in my day when catheads were 1 bar, the good old days

I didn't say that. @iPlaySkullgirls did.

I started with Painwheel because I fell in love with hers s.HP

I started with Valentine and still main solo.

I started offline, played all the story modes, etc

Offline, I played Filia and Squigly because their jMP and jMK were good for beating Marie
When I got online (MDE, pre-Encore) I ended up with Fortune because I got mileage out of, well, mashing her. HEH. TK Air super.

When I actually started to leeearn the gaaame, I learned with Parasoul, and she became my main. Since then, I've slowly picked up other characters. Val, Double, Bella, Eliza, etc. Even picking up Fortune again.

And yeah, Fukua is easy to learn, at least, her combos are, which helps you get off your feet and into the water.

I think I started with either Filia or Cerebella. As they were the only ones playable on the demo initially.

Went on to main Peacock and Ms. Fortune for a while, switched the latter for Filia, and then switched her for Big Band.

Big band is someone i've been wanting to get good with sense his initial release. Just never spent the time, I'm gunna start right now.

My first character was Ms. Fortune, but that was back in Vanilla, WAY BEFORE how she is now.

Bella, stuck with her.

The Cock, since she's what sold me on the game back when there was only her, Filia, and Cerebella.

stuck with bella
and i hate myself for it
</3

Big band and peacock. Till I tried grappling with big band and found out that's not how you play him.

Painwheel since console release. I liked the song in her trailer and stuck with her because I liked how many links she had to pull off in a combo. I love her animations and sound design as well. I humored myself early on by turning off music and voices, doing her normals, and just trying to guess what they snap and break to make those sounds.

Painwheel and Double were my first two characters because i ALWAYS play the gross monster characters

also they both fit my playstyle super well

Beowulf. I got the DLC for Beowulf when I first got the game so I decided to use him first, I am not good at using Beowulf

Started with peacock cause she was the character I was intrugued most about the game because of her design being old cartoons. Also technically makes her my first non smash fighting game character.

She wa a litle tough for me to pick up at first because of that though.

I started with Bella cuz I was coming off of playing Haggar in MvC3. Then I added Val cuz I actually liked her design and wanted to play her first, but I couldn't figure out her combos and Skullheart had that server crash. Much later added Big Band cuz fedora.

I think my first was bella because she had awesome lines and cool animations especially LnL. Love her personality.

My first character was Ms. Fortune. Before the game first came out in 2012, she was the one I wanted to main because I liked her design and her being a rushdown/puppet character hybrid appealed to me.

My firsts were Peacock and Cere because demo and because I couldn't retroactively pick Band and Beowulf first

My first character was Peacock, as her design and overall aesthetics were what got me into the game to begin with.
Was a lucky coincidence that her playstyle also turned out to be what I enjoyed most, and so later team additions/changes had "what works best for Peacock" high on the list.

What followed in the next two years was expanding the team with a grappler element (Cerebella->Beowulf) as I found I quite like to play that type of character as well, and gluing it all together with a middle-support character (Double->Big Band).

Started with Filia and Bella as they were the only ones available in the demo :^)
me too lol

Dubs. She's easy and she'll be a good support character for whoever you pick up second after you've played a lot.

Started with Parasoul because she reminded me a lot of how I wanted to play Chun-Li from ST with charge fireballs, good normals, her jLK being like Chun j.LK/MK, stomp, and using a super to get out of pressure (Para level 3). For better or worse I still sort of play them the same way minus mashing on lightning legs.

but i love ms fortune

I started way way back when Skullgirls released with Fortune.

Then I came back, and returned with Peacock.

Then I came back and returned with Parasoul.

Finally, I came back and now I'm managing Painwheel.

Started off with Peacock and over time I decided to go with characters with more quick air options like Squigly, Fukua and Val (| ‿◠)

I just got started in this game but atm I'm playing valentine. She's the only character that I have really learned anything about so I have yet to know if I hold any potential in anybody else. I hope to find this forum useful in finding more people to play online with at my level or above.

Started off with Valentine and Painwheel but decided that I can't play Painwheel all that well but chose to stick with Valentine and I'm still not sure who to have as a secondary for my team. Kinda going with Valentine and Fukua for my team.
