Five Nights at Freddy's

It reminds me of Nighttrap,
nothing should remind you of Nighttrap.

Don't talk shit about Nightrap.

Oh look. A Freddy's thread. Sweet.

I actually haven't (and refuse to) play this game for myself, but I do like the concept of the entire thing and the quirks of the animatronics themselves. Bonnie likes to stalk outside, Chica's messing around with the Kitchen, Freddy is actually screwing with your controls and watching constantly...it's neat.

As for the new game, I am already like the new designs already, especially the new old Bonnie, being a faceless beast of carnage and all. Old Foxy is even more terrifying, looking forward to people freak out when he lunges towards them like that.

I also found this from the trailer videos, which gives just a tiny bit of sympathy towards the homocidal bots.

Lastly, I recommend you guys check out a person named Rebornica on Tumblr. They make a bunch of cool FNAF stuff that a lot (and I mean A LOT) of the fandom picked up on.) Here's a sample

Fun fact: I have an Animation project in mind as I have 3D models of the Freddy's chars and the restraunt.

if you want some voicework stuff in it, I'll help out if you want. :)

Five Nights at Freddy's... That makes me remember that time where Foxy appeared in the first 15 seconds of the Second Day. I will never forget that, even if I wanted to.

WAIT IT'S ALREADY OUT? HE'S ALREADY DONE?

Sooooo uh... apparently the newer animatronics, according to some theories, are there to basically attack the old animatronics when they spot them? Which means if they see you with that mask on, you're royally fucked?

That would make sense, with no doors there would need to be some kind of mechanical dichotomy between them.

That would make the game pretty tense I think.

It's an ouroboros of popularity really.
One popular youtuber plays a clever little indie game and then all their fans love it and request that other youtubers play it and then all their fans love it and request that other youtubers play it, ad infinitum.
It starts with Pewds and Markiplier and trickles down to Game Grumps and Cr1tikal until every person with a youtube account has played the game, whether they choose to upload it or not.

"clever"

It's clever, I do think that the concept behind the game is very clever and lends itself well to the horror genre, but there are some execution issues that kind of ruin the game. For me at least.

I agree with a lot of what's been said. The game is fun the first time around, and it might get some scares out of you as you figure out Foxy, Freddie and other ways the game works. After that you can predict the jumpscares for the most part and only use the cameras for foxy while using lights/doors to deal with the others. Which makes the game very simplistic.

It's not a bad game, it's definitely a clever idea, but I feel it's one of those games you play once then share with a friend to watch their experience. I showed the game to about 3 of my friends and had a blast watching their initial reactions to foxy running down the hall haha.

That being said I can understand people not liking the game, the scares are rather predictable and the first night is so slow that some people got bored of it by 3 am and just closed the game. Part 2 seems interesting and I look forward to see how people play and react to it. Also how the creator might get around to making the camera for useful this time around, if he plans to address that.

Edit: Here's the game theory video for FNAF, rather interesting.

I found out about this game from word of mouth, none of the youtubers (they're lets players) that I watch have made a single reference or have talked about this game at all.

It's a bad game, it's predictable, it's nothing but jump scares and a weak attempt to emulate Cave Johnson with the typical bullshit undertone of "Captialism bad".

But mostly it's a game designed to do two things.

1. Get Pewdiepie to scream at it which will get his legion of fanboy idiots to buy it.
2. Rape your childhood.

It's clearly succeeded at #1, #2 fails because I was never scared of the singing robots at Chuck E. Cheese.

(That little cave under the stage though...ick claustrophobia.)

Oh boy, Game Theory.

That Mike's the killer theory's been done before.
My friend has a theory that Phone Guy is the killer and I kinda like that one a bit more because friend bias

Maybe I'm just dense, but could you explain a bit more?

Blackroseangel's got a bit of a hate-on for FNAF.

It's not a bad game. It's actually one of the scarier games I've seen in a while, compared to also recently released crap like The Evil Within, Neverending Nightmares, etc.. I think the game isn't supposed to get it's horror from the jumpscares but more from the sheer freakishness of the animatronics and the atmosphere of feeling totally helpless as you wait for certain doom. I've never played the game myself, but watched Markiplier, RPGMinx, LordMinion777 and Yamimash play it. After I got used to the jumpscares, the androids remained disturbing as hell, especially considering the backstory of them being possessed by children murdered by a man wearing a Freddy costume.

That said, have some fan art.

Humanized, because a lot of them are quite good.

I disagree,
if it was a cheap game made only to provide jumpscares it woulda been a scripted walkthrough sequence like that Silent Hills PT thing. Walk in this direction, creepy atmosphere leading to a jumpscare, repeat.
I think the FNaF creator genuinely had a clever idea for a scary game, where you can only watch the objects of horror approach you with only defensive abilities, nothing to truly stop the objects of horror and nothing allowing you to avoid them, all you can do is keep them at bay and try to survive.
Yes, the jumpscares are cheap and predictable, as is the gameplay really as you figure out the pattern, but it's by no means worthless.

And I really don't like this reactionary mindset that anything overhyped automatically has to be brainless pandering garbage.

What if you were walking in a brightly lit hallway and a unicorn flashed in front of you out of nowhere for a split second, it would be scarey, even though it wasn't something objectively scarey.
anything can be a jump scare.

OH.
You're talking about the random flashy stuff.
Yeah, that's kinda bullshit.

At what point did I ever make that assertion?
I was drawing upon certain statements.

garbage.
It's a bad game

But mostly it's just a general statement aimed at a lot of comments I've seen about a lot of things.

I still feel that the game would have worked better if it focused on building the atmosphere instead of just throwing you in it.

like, some of my favorite horror games are scarier solely because they give off the sense of discomfort. Fatal Frame still makes me feel uncomfortable when I play it because it has a really good use of atmosphere. like, the jump scares with Freddie's would have worked if they done something like added more ambiance and things like that.

at the end of the day, I feel it's not a scary game, just a game that scares you.

That's my opinion of the game, you aren't require to agree.

I know...
That's why I started the post with "I disagree".

The answering machine messages at the beginning of each "night".
Ah, Thanks.
Honestly, I don't like the game and don't feel its worth a purchase, but I do enjoy talking about it.

That's actually a very interesting comment you just made there. Not even saying that sarcastically, I mean that. I mean, that seems to be the case for a lot of these games, isn't it? Whether you like the games that get extremely popular on YouTube amongst the PewDiePies and Jesse Coxes or not, you always end up talking about them. BlackRose and myself don't really like the game (admittedly on two separate degrees) but we're both here, in this discussion about it. It's kind of bizarre.

its always nice to have a non-onesided debate.
