Just posting here because it's about as good a place as any - I don't want to add a huge number of things to the list on the forum index if I can help it, simply because having fewer events means that the ones that *are* listed actually get extra attention. At the same time, I realise that there's no point in listing stuff like a month before because by then it's too late for everyone to make plans, so I'll probably limit the list to any events happening in the next 6 months.

Also, I'm forgetful so if you've mentioned an event to me and I told you to wait until later, please do remind me.

Just posting here and saying that I'm still screaming at the top of my lungs to get people to come to MAXOUT in Kansas City. I realize it's a one day tournament and people that would have to fly aren't gonna make it out. However, aside from East Coast tournaments and Salty we're one of the only monthlies that has run a Skullgirls tournament pretty much every month since the game was released. I think that's worth something

Is there anything I could do more to get people to come? Again, I realize traveling cross country for a one day tournament isn't realistic, but I feel like there's midwest players in driving distance I'm still not hitting...

If you mean Duck I don't think he checks Skullheart often so he'll never see this. Prolly best to try some other form of social media, although I don't think he checks Twitter or Facebook either. Actually I'm not really sure how to get ahold of him lol

There's a difference when the driving distance for other Midwest players, talking mostly Indiana + Chicago, is usually 7~ hours minimum to get to KC, where as most of the EC/WC regular stuff doesn't have everyone traveling for those all over. That'd be more like if Norcal went regularly to Socal events, or if the Xanadu guys in Baltimore traveled to GU events in Boston where Mcpeanuts is. Or vice versa on any of those. As it is, the times where those things even happen is very rare, and for us it'd be the norm. If it were a major, that wouldn't be so bad, but for monthlies it's definitely a lot more of a stretch.

The ideal place for midwest to gather would really be St. Louis like what several of us did long ago, since it's actually a lot more realistic as far as a drive goes. But as far as KC goes, it really isn't ideal at all and I wouldn't blame Chicago players if they didn't want to go through with the drive.

St Louis doesn't really do stuff anymore. Our monthly is what their players come to. They don't even have their own anymore irrc.

I'll tell you right now I am never going to Xanadu for a monthly. I hate the drive to Philly for the Big E stuff and I would have to drive PAST Philly to get to Xanadu.

I think right we're just trying to retain as many players in KC/STL as possible because you can't magically pull players out of the ground.

I think we're probably doing as a good a job at advertising as we possible can.

FuLLBLeeD if it's anything like New England it's probably just that not everyone who wants to make it out can, either because they have to work that weekend or their car won't start or w/e. I think everyone in the area pretty much knows about Maxout at this point, same as how everyone in New England knows about Game Underground.

After Defend the North in July, there's nothing on the front page until November. Any events in that timeframe that people are planning to focus on? There's Summer Jam in August and CEOtaku in September, at the least.

CEOtaku was probably going to be a big focus for the community I imagine, so that one should probably be important to note down.

iirc CEOtaku got over 50 entrants despite only about a six month notice. This year's CEOtaku had a much larger notice- I think we could easily pull 100+ entrants at the event if we encouraged people to choose it over the other seasonal events.

I can already confirm that ~multiple~ West Coast players are set on attending CEOtaku this year.

I also feel that Frosty Faustings is an event that deserves more support- though my personal attendance depends on whether or not I submit Ecco for AGDQ next year :p

I mentioned this in the post-CEOtaku discussion, but I (and I think many people for whom travel is a bit more prohibitive) chose not to attend CEOtaku not because of lack of notice but because it didn't seem like a lot of people were planning on going. Then suddenly closer to the event (like a month in advance) a lot of people decided to go and by then it was too late to make plans. Due to how overwhelmingly well received the event was, however (as well as the fact that jebailey, a TO who IIRC previously had a negative opinion of skullgirls, seemed impressed enough to say he would "definitely" have us again and we wouldn't want to disappoint), I will almost certainly be attending this year.

    Frosty Faustings
    CEOTaku
    GUTS

As my planes to EC are like $600 and I'm a student now, I'll probably only be able to go to one EC tournament.

Whatever one the community decides on, I'll do my best to be there.

I know a lot of people are not happy about Big-E's tournaments for Skullgirls specifically, and I'd be reluctant to go again if we weren't at least confirmed main stage and to be treated as well as or better than Marvel 3 since we beat their numbers.

Everyone says CEOTaku was awesome, so if that's picked to be our big EC major like NEC was for 2015 I'll be there and we should start letting people know that's the one.

now that we're talking about overall events not just ceotaku and I don't have to double post, I do want to respond to something Aphro said in the DTN thread:

I actually disagree heavily that we no longer have anything to prove. If anything, this year is more important than ever. 2015 was the year that we hit enough majors that TOs started to take us seriously. If we came out hard in 2015 and then start going back to 30-man majors then that will tell people that our past tournament numbers were a fluke and that we are not a community to be worth investing in. If a major tournament gives us a chance and we don't deliver then it will discourage new events from wanting to have us and we will not grow.

Obviously, though, we do have to choose majors to attend (hence the title of the thread), not everyone can go to every major that has SG (I myself will probably only get to about 5 majors this year as things are). After NEC I was not as disillusioned (is that the right word?) with Big E as a lot of people, partially because E made a whole speech about how SG came through for his tournaments so he was gonna come through for us...but then at the very next Big E major, Winter Brawl, despite us having respectable numbers all accounts indicate that we were treated no better (maybe even worse) than before. With events like DTN and GUTS coming through in around the same time as summer jam and NEC, I think it's worth showing events coming out to show us support that we will make it worth their while instead of just sticking to our "comfort zone" of the same events every year. (Not that we shouldn't support events like CEOtaku and CB who are proven to give us a good time, just that I think it's worth giving new events a shot and maybe letting go of some "established" events as new, possibly better, ones become available.)

Seconding supporting Frosty's: wonderful tournament with great staff and it's during a good time of the year to get off work/travel (at least in my opinion, everyone's situation is different).

I just confirmed with Jamie that GUTS is going to have Main Stage status for all of Skullgirls.
That plus the $300 Pot Bonus should be big incentive for people to come out. I'd honestly put it over NEC at this point.

So CEOtaku seems like a strong option - what other events are there in the second half of the year? Just want to make sure all of the options are considered.

CEO or CEOtaku? I thought skullgirls at CEO proper was basically a local

Skullgirls at CEO proper is just that, basically a local. If I busted my ass and blew it up, I could maybe push 20-some odd people. It's whatever; if you're at CEO I want you to play but don't travel to CEO for Skullgirls.

Skullgirls at CEOtaku is going to be tied with Combo Breaker for biggest and best SG2E major of 2016. We've got main stage Saturday night in a huge block to ourselves and we can even run it 3/5 the whole way. The only change I see happening is if we're somehow too big for Saturday to contain us, but since we don't have an exhibition like SNS at CB I'm expecting we can just blow through the tournament, party all night, and then spend Sunday perpetually in the jacuzzi like last year.

If you can make two EC majors, make GUTS and CEOtaku. If you can make one... idk. CEOtaku is probably the better unbiased choice, but Jamie and GU has always been super good to us. He got us main stage and spooky stream for a like 8 man tournament for SDE. I remember that. I would support Jamie and GUTS over any other tournament every time, if forced to choose. Good thing I don't have to choose.

I refuse to go into a jacuzzi naked anymore. Last year I made the mistake of not bringing a swimsuit and it was probably the best thing I've ever done in my life since holy shit pool parties are terrible and swimming should be illegal. Being naked in general should be illegal.

CB is over. I'm pretty much confirmed for CEOTaku and Frosty Faustings. I'm hesitant on going to NWM next year but I would encourage people to attend that event as well.
