UPDATE: Fukua is now available worldwide on XBLA!

After over a month of balance tweaks, move additions, and animation refinements, Skullgirls' newest character Fukua is now out on North American and European PSN and PC worldwide!

Not content in merely bringing you a new character, Lab Zero has outfitted this update with a new stage: Nightmare Crest, featuring haunting new music composed by Vincent Diamante. This patch brings the game to Encore v1.02 and also comes with numerous bug fixes, Valentine's new Fuchsia default palette, brand new music for the Glass Canopy Stage and more! You can read the full patchnotes for v1.02 here.

Fukua has also been submitted for Japanese PSN, but unfortunate circumstances kept it from being released simultaneously with its western cousins. Expect her sooner rather than later!

Please note that Fukua is not DLC, she is included with an automatic patch. Simply boot up Skullgirls on your system and you'll be prompted to download her for free!

[prebreak]Keep reading below for her April Fools launch trailer and the two new music tracks.[/prebreak]

This patch also comes with two new stage themes. One for the new Nightmare Crest and a second track for Glass Canopy that replaces the old placeholder In a Moment's Time. Both these new tracks are composed by Vincent.

Theme of Nightmare Crest - The Dreams We Left Behind

Theme of Glass Canopy - Royal Canopy Waltz

The new Glass Canopy music is marvelous.

all the new music is marvelous!

Nightmare Crest is a twist that I enjoy the most!

You guys sure know how to take care of your fans, can't wait to get it on Xbox!

I swear there's a part in Royal Canopy Waltz that sounds exactly like the tango song from True Lies

A Nightmare On Maple Street

Kinda wish Fukua had a Freddy palette so I could pair it with the Jason one for Painwheel. I'd actually try to learn them both if I could do that.

I love Nightmare Crest's theme so much.

Jesus god i need this on my xbox now, Lab Zero always takes care of even the tiniest details

people are still complaining that she is too good still :(

The size of these updates is insane. It's like downloading the whole game again.

It IS downloading the whole game again. :^P

The game's divided into parts, which you can see in the PC version. Characters, story art, levels, music, UI are each put into their own package file, which is then PS3/360 platform-specific formatted so that it can load faster. This was required to improve the 360 loading times to be tolerable. (Who remembers SG1.0? Yay.)
A ton of art changed for Valentine to be purple [UI, story art], a new character was added [characters], a new level was added [levels] and new music was added [music].
So you get all of it. Heh.

This way, each patch is "complete" rather than "cumulative" - meaning if you buy the game now you just download the latest patch and that's it, rather than downloading the first one then the next one then the next one etc, which would be a greater total download size even if the individual patches were smaller since you'd download multiple earlier versions of files which got stomped by the next version.

Unfortunately, all those packages will be changing with the introduction of each new character so it wouldn't really buy us anything even if the patches were cumulative instead of complete, you'd just be downloading 930MB multiple times instead. :^) So just imagine it's a 5GB game that you get in parts, hahahahahah.

(Even if I could package only what changed, which I can't because the packaging exe is left over from the company-that-shall-not-be-named and we do not have the source, I probably still wouldn't because making and testing a cumulative patch is much more time-consuming and prone to screwing up. And on 360 we'd have to ship all the data each time anyway, so there.)

There are always gonna be complainers regardless of the result and Fukua was never OP in any iteration.
Armored grab and effective zoning. Of course people would complain.

Good, I couldn't play on PC during april fools and missed the hype!

Being a new character in a crescent cast makes it normal that she is too good.

She is at the very least a skill gate character (like Cerebela and Big Band). I was scared of how much damage she did with just a little effort of my part. So, in novice levels of ability she is very good.

But even if she is too good in the higher levels, the continous updates, tweaks, buffs and nerfs will eventually balance her.

The musics are playing in my mind right now. Are they going to be in a future update of the OST?

Yes. Very soon. If you're a contributor to our IGG campaign, you'll receive an update in a few days about it.
would that include Bath of Tefnut?

No... it means that people enjoy jumping the gun on judging her as a character.

i just downloaded the new compatibility pack file and there's a new patch so 360 users can now enjoy fukua goodness

Everytime I download the update pack for 360, it says I dont have the compatibility pack to play online, then it exports me to the original skullgirls. I tried deleting the game and redownloading it, but it still does the same thing. I need help! lol

Redownload the compatability update from xbl marketplace. The old update is 824mb, the new update is 872mb. That should fix the problem, not redownloading the game.

When I did it, I deleted and redownload the update, just to be sure.

Don't be fooled by the date on the Required Compatibility Update DLC. It says 5/14/2013, but it's wrong. It's the one you need.

And before anyone asks, we've already tried to get them to fix it for us.

You must deal with quite some shit on the XBox, don't you?

That did the trick, thanks. Time to get my Fukua on.
