Thought I'd make a little thread based around something that's not too common nowadays. Game Modding.
Be it a Brawl Mod, a Half-Life 2/Source Mod, or a silly fun serverside mode in Team Fortress 2, talk about it here.

In general though, I'm mostly talking about fun mods that are available to play on Steam.

Two in particular are garnering my attention.

Jaykin' Bacon Episode 3, which is a very fun looking Source mod that is off the walls and filled with fun game modes. And has a lot of weapons (Plus a gun voiced by Jon St John). Could be a fun game for us to play when it comes out

And Faceless, Originally a Source version of Slender which has Multiplayer horror where you need to work together to get pages while a terrifying monster stalks you.

Though of course I guess you could also talk about Project M in here if you'd like.

Finally, a place I can talk about Project: M without the ire of all the eager SSB4 waiting individuals on the Smash Thread!

I haven't gotten around to trying Brawl Minus myself, but the insane combo videos are quite appealing. Plus, I just looked at some of the changelog stuff for it:

"Starting frame 51, the Falcon Punch now has four hits.
The first three hits of the Falcon Punch are made transcendent so less manly moves cannot clank with it.
These hits deal 11,3,3,27 (28 for reverse Pawnches) respectively"

Four... hit... Falcon Punches.

Once I get another SD Card, I'll probably give it a whirl.

YES! You must! It's a freaking blast!

And the 4 hit thing isn't as bad as you think it is. It's just for dramatic effect. Most of the time, only the last hit connects unless you sweet spot in which the rain of pain is horrendously delicious.

Than I will be sure to sweet spot all of my foes >:)

On the subject of modding Brawl specifically, have you added any additional stuff to your modded Brawl (music, skins, stages, etc.)?

I have added tons of music to Project: M. Some of the tracks I added were added to make a stage more hype (Fighting is Magic's Rainbow Dash Theme for Halberd), some were added to be completely silly (The Double Rainbow Autotune Song to Rainbow Cruise), and some were added out of spite against the stage they were added to (Captain Lou's Do the Mario to Frigate Orpheon*).

Given the forum I'm on, I should probably mention that I added Paved With Good Intentions (Lab-8 Stage Music) to Final Destination and The Lives We Left Behind (Maplecrest Stage Music) to Onett. :)

*I hate the stage flip... a lot.

I have modded literally everything there is to mod about the game. Texture on all stages, menus and characters. I used to take a lot of crappy models of third party characters and paste them on characters, but I'm taking a better approach this time around and just giving textures that look nice (Such as the Smash 3 texture mods that are on the Brawl Vault. Those are fantastic). Colours that better suit the style of brawl and don't use a ton of memory. Less crashing that way.

For music, I like putting mario party songs on my menus because "Smash bros isn't a fighting game hur dur it's a party game" so there's that. I pick my music very selectively for stages. Got an island texture for Smashville and am playing all sorts of beach songs.

Psst, the stage flip is the best part. And in the newest update for the Minus MAX, they put ledges on every ledge that should be a ledge. That fixes things very well. Also just jumping before the stage flips fixes everything.

Also another good Mod is Pirates, Vikings, and Knights II
Basically Source + sword fighting.
Though of course Chivalry has shown it up and made it marketable.

I really wish my computer could handle Chivalry better. The combat is really well made for an FPS format.

Edit: Rellek, you use the Beach Smashville too? :3

WEll PVK II was basically three teams
(Self explanitory, Pirates, Vikings, and Knights), and there were going to be six unique classes for each one, each filling an architype.
But they only really got to three and I'm not sure if it's still updated.

And now of course there's Chivalry which anyone can buy and play which is regularly updated.

And has DLC where you can be a Pirate and a Viking and a Knight.
Plus a Spartan, Ninja, and Samurai.
So people are more inclined to play that instead.

Oh, turns out I was wrong.
PVK II is still updated, but they're still not close to their goal of all classes.
Still pretty fun and I'd recommend it.
I think you can download it right from Steam too.

wow, i can't believe people still play PVK2.
I remember playing it years ago thinking it was just some throw-away mod, it was really fun though. I enjoyed it more than chivalry

It's a big surprise to me too.

While I'm on Source Mods.
Two Zombie ones

No More Room in Hell
Basically Zombie Survival with randomly generated objectives, and very few checkpoints.
Die and you come back as an uncontrolable Zombie that's fast and strong

And Zombie Master
Where one player spawns and controls Zombies/Traps with a top down perspective while all other players are FPS mode and try to make it to the end.

the only mod in existence that isn't a steaming pile of garbage
