tl;dr: I am going to run and stream a PC lobby for new players on December 28th at 7PM EST. If you want to get feedback on how you're playing, read below for more details.

Registration is now open! Registering will guarantee you a chance to play and help us match you with an ideal opponent. Fill out this form to register.

Hey, everyone. I'm WaifuPatronSaint. I lurk on the Skullgirls subreddit and regularly participate in doubledark's Newbie Night tournaments. Lately, there have been a lot of posts on the Skullgirls subreddit from new players. Also, between the holidays and the Steam sale, there's going to be a spike in the number of people getting into the game. Because the next Newbie Night tournament isn't for a few weeks, and I think that community events are a great way to learn, I've decided to arrange some lobby play aimed at beginners. I'm calling this event "Get Good" Lobby Night.

Introducing: "Get Good" Lobby Night
"Get Good" Lobby Night
is an opportunity for new Skullgirls players to fight against people at their skill level and get feedback from more experienced players. Myself and Dr. Omnyx (another Newbie Night regular) will run a lobby on the PC version of Skullgirls and stream it on Twitch. We will commentate your matches and give you suggestions on how to improve.

When and Where
The event will be on December 28th at 7PM EST. I will be streaming it on my Twitch channel.

How to Participate
  1. Register for the event by filling out this form. Registering guarantees you a chance to play. You can still participate if you don't register, but registered players will get to play first. Registration will close half an hour before the event.
  2. Join the "Skullgirls newbie night!" group on Steam. The group is a great way to meet and chat with new players, and joining will notify you of monthly Newbie Night tournaments. We will be inviting players to the lobby through the group chat.
  3. When the event starts, enter the group chat room. You can do this in the "Groups" section of your friends list by right-clicking on the Newbie Night group.
We will start the event by letting registered participants play first. If you registered, we will have planned your games in advance. All you have to do is wait in the group chat. When it is your turn to play, we will invite you to the lobby.

After everyone who registered has played, we will open up the lobby so anyone can join on a "first come, first serve" basis. When we announce that the lobby is open, you will have to manually join by right-clicking on WaifuPatronSaint or Dr. Omnyx in the right pane of the chat window. If you are unable to join, you will have to wait for the lobby to open up again.

When you enter the lobby, you will get to play three games before leaving. We will try to make sure that everyone gets to play once, including unregistered players, before allowing repeats.

Skill "Requirements"
I put "requirements" in quotes because this event is targeted towards new players and I want it to be as welcoming as possible. This is not a tournament or competition; it's a group training session. However, you still need to have some experience with the game. You definitely need to have played through the game's tutorial as well as the tutorials for whichever characters you use. You should know a basic combo or two. We suggest having at least ten hours of playtime, but less is okay. We will be focusing on improving your fundamentals and knowledge of the game's core mechanics. We may be able to give you advice on how to play characters that we have experience with. If you're more interested in maximizing your combos (undizzy) and learning resets/burst-baits, this event might not be for you.
