GTA V! Yeah, that behemoth of a game. One-billion dollars back in 3 days, amazing, immersive world, awesome gameplay, yadda-yadda.

So, this thread's here to discuss the whole shaboozy. The story, the cars, Michael's bald cut, all that good stuff. Share some of the stories you've had, because god knows this game produces enough of them.

Oh, and check out Night Phyre's GTA Online Thread! Join the Skullheart crew and repasent, yo.

GTA games would always have great story with funny/awesome cutscenes and GTA V doesn't look to disappoint either. Also loving how I can juggle between three different characters with different backgrounds. Probably gonna play Franklin the most since I'm loving how he is a gangster who thinks he is surrounded by morons.

I'm dying to play this and I can't friggin' wait! Just two more weeks. XD

I'm probably gonna do what I usually do and that is purposely crash into walls while in a motorcycle or just cause complete chaos (dat new minigun).

One thing I'm worried about though is griefing.
If it's an open world, what's stopping people from stealing your car, shooting you on the street, crashing a plane into your house, or mugging you?

Well, going on GTA IV's multiplayer...
-- Nothing, I'd imagine, but if it's a saved car I imagine there'll be a fresh new one back in your garage
-- Nothing, unless friendly fire is specifically turned off by the host.
-- Again, nothing, though the game doesn't have destructible enviorments on something as big as a building, so I guess it'd just leave a burn mark.
-- Not even sure if that's a feature. And if it is, I mean, you're probably carrying a glock, an RPG and ten satchel charges to defend yourself.

It's actually only 16 people. In a world as big as R* have promised, ya shouldn't run into too much trouble.

I will get it when the game's price will drop. San Andreas is my favorite part of all the PS2 GTA entries and I'm really looking forward to GTA 5. Cruising same ol' Los Santos with a modern touch is gonna be a blast! Plus, I'm curious what songs they gonna include in radio stations.

Oh.
Less worried then.

I heard either IGN or Gamespot that R* is going have setting where you can play without worry of getting griefed. They did it for Red Dead Redemption, but I can't quite remember the name of the mode. I just know that while playing it the Free Roam Multiplayer lobby, you could not be killed by normal means (except in my case, I was blown up by a clever bastard who killed himself with TNT). I don't doubt that R* will bring it back to keep people from getting pissed off by griefers.

Ok, phew.
I'm a lot less worried now, I'm more than likely getting it in December though, but eh. I'm sure by the time I get it there'll be some good DLC to keep it more alive

I'm really hyped for it, but I'm going to wait for the PC release, which may or may not take a very long time to come out. I'm a patient man though.

Personally one of the first things Im going to do is check out if they upgraded that terrible/forgettable cover system from GTAIV, and then check out melee combat. Whenever I got ridiculously bored on GTA one of the goals that came to mind was "Go fistfight people in the ghetto because they fight back, and see how many people you knockout before you die."

Also really hoping the exploding punches cheat code sees its way over from The Ballad of Gay Tony. Kicking someone in the nuts and sending them to the rooftops is priceless

First thing I'm doing: jacking a four-wheeler and doing drive-bys on the hermits and hikers in the mountains. They'll never catch me

Also, for anyone wondering what the name of the non-grief mode was in RDR, I'm pretty sure it's called Friendly Free Roam. At least, that's what Google told me. What I do remember is that all friendly fire is disabled, so unless you use TNT suicidally or push them off a cliff, you can't kill anyone :V

GTA4 had that too. You just had to disable friendly fire when you made the lobby. There was only two ways you could kill another player. RPG at their feet until they take enough fall damage to die. Run into them with a car so they keep hitting other cars/buildings until they die.

RESURRECTION.

There's only one gripe I have about GTAV. The place I live in, the San Fernando Valley, isn't in GTAV.

GTA V: My bulleted Pros and Cons

PROS!
  • Gameplay is tighter than previous entries.
  • Graphics are good, despite incessant online whining about how it would be better on PC.
  • Graphics are consistent across PS3/360 versions.
  • The new Los Santos is much more interesting than the new Liberty City (and much larger, to boot).
  • Lots of fun distractions for you to try, unlike the somewhat lame distractions of GTA IV
CONS!
  • The, "satire," and, "parody," GTA is known for still lacks subtlety, and most of the jokes, while funny in their own way, are still just cliched extremes of the subjects they're supposed to be skewering. It just bashes you over the head with the same ol', "hey, this guy is a liberal douche," and, "this guy is a neckbeard nerd," and, "what a conservative jerk this guy is, amirite?" Expect toilet humor throughout. It's still GTA.
  • The story in GTAs have always been a means to propel the player through crazy missions, and it's the same here. Not a terribly compelling story, on it's own.
  • The choices you make in selecting mission paths are more akin to having the, "illusion of choice." Despite all the ways it makes it look like you have control over the situation, it's actually quite narrow.

NIGHT PHYRE'S PROTIPS (so far):
  • In the setting menu, switch the target reticule to complex, and the driving camera to high.
  • Complete the gun range challenges with each character, and get gold. Getting all golds will give you a 25% discount on guns, and it'll also kick your shooting skill up to the max (just by having fired so many rounds).
  • Some of the moving target gun range challenges can be made WAY easier if you strafe along with the moving target instead of only adjusting your aim. I kept fucking up pistol challenge 3 until I just started strafing along with he moving target. Got the gold on the next try.
  • When using Franklin's driving focus skill, don't hold it for longer than you need to. If you use it only while actually turning, you can make a single meter last a whole street race.
  • Drive around the island once as Franklin, ASAP. It'll get his driving skill above 80, giving him lvl 4. This will really help early on.

The reason I would only buy GTA on pc is mods, honestly. It would look better, yeah, and that's cool, but it's not really a deal-breaker.
It's also for convenience sake, because I play on pc 99% of the time and all my friends do too.
But apparently wanting the game on my platform of choice is incessant whining.

This is such a dramatic step up from GTA IV's stupid and contradictory story. At least they aren't lying to your face now.
If you want a GTA-like game that has a decent story, there's always the fantastic Sleeping Dogs. I would rather separate the games that allow and even reward you for random acts of chaotic violence from the games that want to be a dark crime drama packed with social commentary. They don't really mesh at all.

But apparently wanting the game on my platform of choice is incessant whining.
I'm not exactly sure why you think I'm directing any comments at you, specifically. I was going off of places like Reddit and game news sites. Online forums have been filled with the whining I described (i.e "this game looks like shit 'cause consoles are old now"). It's a prevalent part of the circlejerk.

So apparently this game sold $800 million dollars over night.
Holy Hell
800 million on launch day baby. Predicting a solid billion minimum before the month is over.

Also production budget was 275 milllion. So they already profited so god damn much.

I'm trying my best for my old dead hipster part of my brain to come back.

Either way, impressive

I dont get the hipster thing in your post.

GTA already broke 1 billion in 3 days. It took Black ops 2 15 days to hit that milestone.

Well since GTA V is out of the way (and after the inevitable DLC expansions) hopefully RockStar can make a Bully sequel like they hinted they wanted to do awhile ago.

People are already finding some of the cooler easter eggs. I'm not really one to 100% open world games, so I'm glad other people are :P

I'm talking about the aliens/UFO. At this point, they've found the rusted UFO in the ocean, the weird symbols at the top of the lift, additional weird markings all over other places, and now there are pictures of a functional, flying UFO after having retrieved all UFO pieces. People are still digging, hoping to find the jetpack. I don't know of any big finds based off the markings on the SE edition map.

I really can't wait till the online comes out the whole idea that you can make your own crew and do missions in free roam. Sounds very cool and a big improvement over Red Dead Redemptions free roam where the only thing you could do was do gang hideouts.

Yes! As much as I am LOVIN' GTAV, I want another Bully!

Anyway like I said, I am totally into this game. Can't wait for Online!

Just 100%'d it. Did the half-hour triathlon last. I feel real good right now.

Oh, and if ya haven't, join the Skullheart crew, ya ninnies. Check out Night Phyre's thread here.

From one of my favorite musicians, Miracle of Sound. Listen to this while your 100 percentin' the game.

He's gonna follow up with a Mike song and a Trevor song sometime.

Here's the second of three MoS GTA songs: Trevor.

I had a gut feeling it was gonna be country-ish. I wonder the what the Micheal song is gonna be about? (Hopefully Radio Gaga)

Last one and just like I predicted, its 80s awesomeness.
So what'dya guys think?
