Hi, im new at this game. Totally newbie, my question is: What character should I use to start? Any noob-friendly char? Any source of the basics? Thank you btw :)

Filia and Valentine are good places to start but to be honest, every character is pretty noob friendly so I think you should try to go with a character you like first and then consider going with the 2 characters I mentioned only if you start having trouble.

For sources of the basics, be sure to take a look at the Beginner's Resource Thread for links to useful guides and articles. Also, feel free to make liberal use of the Beginner's QA thread, ask questions and look through the materials in the character specific sections.

Quite honestly, pick a character you like the most. Liking a character improves your chances in investing time to improve with that character and staying with it. Also, like Rurouni said, check out the beginner resource thread.

Depends, if you don't have any experience with fighting games AT ALL, I would say that the easiest characters to pick up are Filia (easy to understand normals and specials) and Bela (good damage with short combos).

The hardest chars to master to me are, Parasoul and Painwheel (specially painy). You must know how to do combos well and manage your specials.

And if you are just starting with fighting games, practice doing each of the motions (dragon punch, quarter circle, 360, charge, etc) both ways until you can do them 20-30 times in a row.

Well, Im not new at fightings. Im BlazBlue player since the game went out, but in SG I dont have any experience. I like Valentine, but somebody told me some time ago, that its impossible to play her solo. My problem is, I dont like tag teams, I prefer to manage just one character. Is it viable?

If you want a solo, play Fortune.

Solo Val is terrible.

Solo characters are viable due to their higher damage vs teams. However, solos have to work harder in order to get the hit.
Valentine is do-able, but her damage output and neutral game are vastly increased when she has an assist. Especially Cerebella's hp rush punch.

I'd personally start with :PEA: Peacock. Her strengths lie more in her keep-away game, which requires a lot of :QCF: type moves, but she's actually very viable up close and has a pretty high learning curve in my opinion, with basic but hard hitting attacks while you grow your capacity to play her REAL strenghts. Also for story/arcade mode, I've found she's the easiest to beat Marie with with her J.:HK:.

Ms. Fortune is pretty good too on a basic move level with decently easy to execute supers and combos. I'm still pretty new myself, so I can't really elaborate on every little detail of characters, but, this is just what I think on my experience so far.

In terms of who to pick - Just pick whoever you feel the most comfortable with, or whoever you find the most fun. Ultimately, you'll enjoy the game more that way and get better faster if you're enjoying yourself.

Well, another question, please >.< If I choose Valentine, what ally should I pick? And another thing: If I pick two chars, should I need to master both or one of them is just for tag-combos?

lot of good options
Val+Filia (updo)
Val+Double (bomber)
Val+Parasoul (Pillar)
Val+Bella (Ceracopter, HP LnL)

among others
and Yes you need to learn both.
Solo val is really bad, especially with the newest patch her combos are really weak now without assist/poison.

Ideally for Val you'd want another character that has a good DP or similar.

Instead of making a concrete suggestion, though, what characters did you enjoy playing in BlazBlue? That might help us give slightly better advice.

Im Noel mainer. I also play Platinum, Ragna or V-13 but I have played lots of hours more with Noel and I like her style :)

play around with each character in training and do their turorials.

just try and see which character falls into your preference of how you play. if you are more of a zoner, peacock. if you like more technical characters, there fortune. if you are defensive, I recommend Big Band.

Given those preferences, I'd say that Painwheel, Filla, or Valentine are your best bets.

If you're dead-set on playing solo, the best of those three is probably Filia.

Oh, also I wanted to ask one thing more. Im really confused about this, I use PS3 Pad but I dont know how should I configure the buttons, any help?

Square: Light Punch
Triangle: Medium Punch
X: Light Kick
Circle: Medium Kick
R1: Heavy Punch
R2: Heavy Kick
L1: Assist 1
L2: Assist 2

I think those are the defaults. Some switch them around entirely, but most just remap L1/L2 to whatever they want like LP+MP for dashing. If you're on a PS3 pad, you can also enable/disable assists on the right control stick. I prefer not to, but it might be worthwhile if there's other things you want to bind to shoulders.

Yea you need a PP macro for dashing...

I've heard some interesting things from Filia players.

I have been playing the tutorial and I think I will take Fillia, at least at the begining she seems not to hard to iniciate and i feel really comfortable with her ^^ Thank u very much for all the help (:

bella=tager
peacock=mu/nu13
filia=litchi/ ragna
ortune=taokaka/clover
painwheel=hazama/bang
parasoul=silver thingGuy with sword forgot his name but he fights ragna in story mode at near end
squiggly=gungirl/bang/hazama

You mean Hakumen.

I tried out Calamity Trigger at one point, and I think Filia plays more like Jin than Ragna, though.

To me Peacock or Filia would be the characters to go for a beginner while Double or Painwheel would be the most difficult.

Not completely true. @Outlaw_Spike makes solo Val work pretty well. Any team is viable, you just might need to work harder with some teams.

This. And while I mean no disrespect to the OP, if he's still at the stage where he's asking what characters to use then the team composition probably isn't going to be the deciding factor in most matches. Particularly because he said he didn't like the idea of playing a team, I'd say start with solo Val and then once you've got a good feel for the game and Val's playstyle, THEN start worrying about maybe adding other characters.

I agree with this, but once they choose who should be on his team, have val be on backup, so OP can learn the new character while at the same time learning how to use Val as an assist.

But Val has no assists.

it still would help to have val as the 2nd so OP can learn a new character by playing that one from the beginning of the match. once they get the hang of the new character, val can go back to the front and the 2nd character is one that the OP is accustomed to should they have to switch out Val at some point.

When I was new, I also wasn't big on the idea of playing a team (my previous FG experience was some scrub level GGXX with roommates). Someone I play with frequently convinced me to learn a second character and get a team going; with one day of Bella experience, I was winning more with solo Bella than I was with solo Val after weeks; as soon as I said "ok, I've got a bit of a feel for Bella, time to put them on a team together and learn some team mechanics", I saw another instant huge boost to my winrate.

And yes, I've played Outlaw Spike, and he's good (he's beaten me about a million times), but I'd be a lot more scared of him if he ran an assist.

HK Bypass as a high-risk fireball is useful for some point characters. For instance, at most ranges, Bella can turn that ground bounce into a combo on hit.
