Concerns
  • Neutral
  • Combos
  • Technical, Errata
  • Opponent Specific
  • Character Specific
I don't have a particular way I want to structure this since it has no content so.. I dont know how these work? I might just post a post every session or.. whatever?
gotta train more. be best miqo'te

I'm not sure if the PBGCs/reversals were mashes or you recognized bad approaches and had the presence of mind to super/drill.

I'm under the impression it's the latter, and they're really good.

2014/04/17 - Fights vs Stuff`
I'm glad I thought about thinking and hitconfirming things this set instead of doing my willy-nilly things. Focusing on doing air dart and waiting for a result paid off dearly.

Later in the set, Stuff` played his backup team and I.. blegh. I don't like how I can't come up with a solution for the Peacock pattern. It tore me to pieces and emulating it didn't help (although I definitely have more drive to learn the pattern down pat), fooling around didn't help either.

I can do better though I guess but this set wasn't that reflective methinks?

2014/04/18 - Fights vs blandaid, TJ
vs blandaid:
I'm pretty sure blandaid went easy on me after a while in this set, although I don't know why? I had quite a bit of trouble figuring out what to do with some of the filia resets, along with some of the standard airdash mixups from Fortune. I got used to Filia j.HK back n' forth reset, but I don't think that reset is too hard sans me just not thinking about it after it happened the first time?

vs TJ:
This was really tough. I don't see any solutions to his midscreen pattern except like.. armor > runstop > reflect LK bomber, but then that's when Lock n' load comes out. I can't chicken block him because he can still do throw and release soid too! LnL + hole reset is really nasty and I need to figure out the tell for it.. it looks like she only moves her position once she POPS UP, but I'm not sure that helps against LnL, depending on the timing...?

Cerebella gave me some problems with soid assist, considering he can stuff like soid to force me to land and grab, leading into that nasty 50/50. Hmph

It's hard to play against him, but finding out how to do it might be beneficial to learning

2014/04/23 - Fights vs MegamanDS
All I can really say is that I choked and I was impressed by alot of the resets and simple stuff he ended up doing. I got caught mashing jab vs Air dart, cr.LK vs clones, and getting caught because I was attempting to chickenblock and got caught pre-jump frames.

Blegh, all I can think is that I can do better, and I did definitely clean up my act later, but I kind of didn't do any particular combo that I do or top them off with supers, and additionally forfeit most of my advantage for no reason in particular.

I may have to play him offline and take a few notes.

No footage, but I did go 0-2, 1-2 Opponents favor at Tournament Of Champions this saturday.

Oops.. much oops.

thanks for the footage! I always like these.

I'm sour because I have no idea what to do against Painwheel. I have not practiced in ages and it is showing bright as day

I even made a tweet

anyways I tried.

I felt a lot better about last nights session. An unrelated to Skullgirls real life thing boosted my spirits somewhat

Me vs Stuff` 1:01:13
http://www.hitbox.tv/video/222668

Me vs WingZero 1:22:07
http://www.hitbox.tv/video/222670

I still have a massive amount of trouble fighting WingZero's Filia -- I find it impossible to predict whether a hi lo throw is coming and what response to commit to. Other characters are somewhat managable but the skill spread in these matches only makes me realize I have little to know pressure with my characters nor do I have any reset potential.

I've put off learning combos and resets for learning my matchups and tools first, and it is starting to show in every local event. Blocking and poor offense gets me so far.

My matches with Stuff seem to be a rarity-- usually he's much more willing to go in and do more unpredictable resets or mixups, so I don't even want to believe that I "earned" that set that much yet.

Opinions and Advice appreciated for both videos.

So about Filia, I'll recommend spacing with your moves more.

So with Eliza vs Filia for example, Eliza has great air moves. J. Lk, J. Mp, and J. Hp are great if you super jump and find yourself over Filia. J. Mk and J. Hk have great horizontal range with HK also knocking back.

If you can keep Filia in a manageable space, she becomes much less dangerous. The best way to deal with the hi/lo/throw mixup is not to get in it in the first place.

VS Uzu 54:13 + 21:34
Part 1 http://www.twitch.tv/potentj/c/5056322
Part 2 http://www.twitch.tv/potentj/c/5056325
- Uzu did give me some good advice, I'll try to copy it here. He also heavily complimented my blocking, which is one of those small things that keeps me wishing to play, and definitely hides some of the real life shit I have to deal with
<Uzu> You played well
<Uzu> I like your blocking
<Uzu> A lot
<Uzu> Just stop dropping your combos and start guessing my mixups harder
<Uzu> you forget to call assists to extend your chains
<Uzu> You kinda call them at ??? parts
<Uzu> squigly cHP for example
<Uzu> You never really used it to do any resets
<Uzu> Also
<Uzu> You gotta time that oki properly
<Uzu> So many times, you did the jMP and the assist hit me at the same time
<Uzu> That does nothing
<Uzu> you gotta do either considerably before the other
<Uzu> You told me you "still were free to resets"
<Uzu> You just gotta get better at guessing

I also attempted to export these highlights to youtube but I don't have the rights to have +15m videos, and fuck Twitch because I can just have videos on Hitbox until they have to have those removed!

Edit: Metal Gear Solid music is directly correlated to me doing better.
Edit2: I should also note to play Training sessions with @gllt, @severine and another to get some grasps on how to enhance my game. I run into problems with games where I do not think about things past the basics, and suffer. gllt and severin's combo theory would come in handy, and severin has played many of the games I used to take seriously so I'm sure he would have some nice words for my neutral if I supplied him with footage.

Quick double: I decided to post my Skullgirls Supplement Playlist so that I can get some input on it, and probably get pointed to decent things that exist in it. I need to take a look at it sometime this week. Have a look, people.

I sincerely hope that these unlisted videos don't get nuked or reveal something about the game that gets them patched and make me look like a douzer, but I feel like this is one of the better ways to get some real study materials. Apologies to the video owners, I will take them out if desired or necessary.

edit: I should probably point out what I desire out of a study supplement, although I should obviously look for it myself:
  • BnB-level combos
  • Advanced combo theory / interactions
  • Cohesion for my team
  • "Answers" to certain matchup things
  • Combos that use some sort of situational tool
  • Examples of how to use tools in a certain way / receive damage / abare stuff with some char
Simply put, things that if I studied, I can gain a fundamental knowledge of stuff I can do. Huh. eaassyy??

Hey, I have a computer now. I'm going to quote whatever sets I had over the previous few days

2014-12-23 vs Severin (0:44:37)
2014-12-23 vs #skullgirls (1:11:50)
2014-12-29 vs Claws (1:27:23)

And This:
Round Six: Menage A Trois

Casuals with @gllt and @Midiman
Notes: Theres actually quite a bit of not fighting in this one due to some issues occasionally happening and my internet being my internet. If this training diary was an anime this would be the filler episode ( and also wrong ). Lately my inputs have been getting more weird and I'm not sure whats causing that because I don't think anything has changed. I've been getting rush punch e-brake during blockstrings when I've just been trying to do clp lk giant step. I think this means I'm getting a 6 or a 3 when I want a 4. Also just getting other things more often than I should. I will have to scan this footage to gather more information points for future stat allocation.

Enjoyable matches, this went on for a lot longer than any of my previous sets. I mostly wanted a set for something to put in here and I also needed a reason to listen to music. Today's font of the day for today is Comic Neue.

I'm going to ping all these cats so I can get some opinions. I am extremely rusty sans playing locals, and I really could use some outside advice. I feel like im getting better, but I can never be too sure what I really need to work on :3

I'm so actually pissed off at this match I quit irc and started playing serious music. The lag was too much and scared me so I had to switch to like d2 to even calm down. I feel like I shouldn't have gotten hit by anymore than 80% of the Projectiles that hit me, or the mixups, or the raw assist calls, but I never got up to speed.

Dagwood did a great job overall though, despite me being extremely angry about my performance, and I'm proud of him.

@gllt
@Luweewu
@Dagwood
@mcpeanuts
@worldjem

The last few weeks have been pretty painful overall in terms of performance-- I've been playing Danisen and floating near -3 or -4 for the whole duration, and fighting Skarmand in sets is not proving healthy overall-- matches end up in 20-2 his favor or worse and I don't think I've had a better outcome. Additionally, fighting Worldjem was a 10-1 affair and I'd like not to relive that. And I also don't have footage because of either not agreeing to stream or record, or a bad connection

The only solace in terms of victory is that I happened to get 3rd at Salty, which doesn't make me feel too happy considering Stuff and WingZero didn't happen to enter.

I'll end up putting down my dan matches below. I am just feeling like I'm hitting a wall and I don't have any particular way to improve. I'm trying to improve my execution by practicing combos in here (and in KoF, but for things I know are much harder like charge partitioning) and I seem to be getting WORSE overall, and if it ends up being my stick I don't have any way to fix that up, heh.

Fighting games are hard and I almost feel like quitting but I won't because I want to be good so I keep playing and losing and fuck why am I still playing, basically.

The hardest part is not really wanting to complain, whine or assume it's not my fault, it really truly is.

Footage:

TL;DR you need to do actual resets and keep composure and on top of that use your grabs since you're bella.
Round 1:
0:41
You did not air dash after j.mk and do j.lk, j.hp. that was an easy conversion to make a mental note on.
0:50
you got the axe on mayor's fukua. just recall and take the conversion. instead of trying to chain another heavy that will still scale and what not.

0:53
Use s.lp to keep both band and fukua and continue to convert. Ironically this would have killed band and would leave fukua in a position where mayor has to raw tag or yolo mash into something. or call assist alot like he usually does.

0:55
you tried to press a button when fukua is above you.

1:09-1:14
here's a big problem you did. you got a little shaky and you raw tagged. the problem being that fukua wasn't anywhere near you so you couldn't cross up with the elbow drop tag. Then you tried to press a button when mayor did some low level reset. but i assume you were going for devil horns. if not then yeah you chose to get hit in that situation.

1:56
This moment really really made me sad cause i was expecting the one thing i thought you would do. which was airgrab or a double jump airgrab since mayor wants to upback no matter the situation. sadly you went for j.mp and got hit.

2:08 perfect chance to reset. i do not know why you didn't go for it.

Round 2:

3:10
DO not call copter while you're returning as sekhmet. be careful of your meter. copter has a bried period before it becomes active and its easy to get double snapped.

3:26
Please pushblock this garbage setup.

3:37

from j.mk just adc, j.lk, j.hp
3:52

from osiris spiral L you do s.lp into ender and you would've killed fukua.

Round 3:
5:13

You called copter and got snagged. unfortunate.

6:12
He called assist thus the assist will take the elbow drop hit regardless. i know it was a read but i want you to make a mental note of that.

6:20

just use c.mk for cases like this. you'll never miss.

6:48
DO not let this happen again. i'm just saying tighten up your execution there cause that was exceptionally sloppy.

Round start
0:47 you saw peacock slightly walking up? that's usually a grab attempt. a hard counter would be just neutral jump j.hp

1:27-1:34
No resets still? do them
2:11
stop going for sekhmet hits and confirm via eliza. PLEASE. you can get back your meter in the process as well!
2:23
do not call copter from fullscreen it serves no purpose
3:23
you should've expect lvl3 or pillar to come out. in this case level 3 would snuffed parasoul's level 3 but you chose to never reset and just do damage. then you died afterwards.

Round Start 1
0:46-1min

you chased me with sekhmet and i ended up air grabbing. funny enough sekhmet is allowed to tech for w.e reason.

1:25

you ran out of meter and got caught by dynamo. Again please watch your meter. because as dumb as eliza can be like any other character you have to watch your meter.

2min
you panicked. funny enough diamond drop whiff blows up that mixup and still allows you to block. assuming a player does not use assist along with that 50/50 mixup
3:44 you did 360 as misinput.

the majority of the time you got hit was because i was being patient while you got way too riled up to attack me.

A not so subtle nod that the Skullgirls Study Supplement is still getting updated. In the meantime, i'm going to go aheada nd post generic notes and stuff I get here until I bother to put it in the other post

Skarmand: After my assist hits you
Skarmand: You try and do something
Skarmand: Even if it's as silly as 2LK to 5HP to a real reversal
Skarmand: You always do something
Midiman [1d -3]: I have 0 answer for that but ill try to keep that in mind

Skarmand: GG's
Midiman: ggs brother
Skarmand: I know it's late and youv'e been playing for a long time
Midiman: if you have advice dont hesitate lol
Skarmand: But try and pick up on where I'm constantly making the same punish
Skarmand: Like if I ever whiff jLP over your head when you crouch it
Skarmand: You will hit LP to catch me
Skarmand: But I call assist now so you get hit there
Skarmand: Also I don't think Kancho is a very good assist :^)
Skarmand: But that's just me
Midiman: it's really not but I tried something
Midiman: im pretty toasted at the moment so heh
Skarmand: Also;
Skarmand: Eliza resets
Skarmand: Not very scary
Skarmand: But I know there's scary ones out there
Midiman: did I even reset
Skarmand: Probably not!
Midiman: I don't reset with Eliza
Skarmand: Just watch a Ft10 with sonic fox and steal them all.
Midiman: that's not a thing I do since I have dmg
Skarmand: Yeah but she does disgusting damage with a reset as well.
Skarmand: I mean part of Skullgirls is the will I reset or not
Skarmand: If you do nothing but finish combos
Skarmand: That means you have lots of leeway to do resets when you need them for the kill.
Skarmand: Since I'm so conditioned to just sipping coke and taking a breather.
Midiman: I never really considered that actually a form of conditioning;
Midiman: Is it cool if Iposted this int raining diary thread or
Skarmand: Whatever helps
Skarmand: Basically if I know 100% what your option is
Skarmand: And I can read your mind
Skarmand: I'm going to have an easy time
Skarmand: So "I never reset since I do tons of damage" lets me rest easy and get out of things
Midiman: Man
Midiman: It is hilarious to realize now that throughout this whole week I haven't actually reset much as opposed to the other week
Skarmand: Burst baits, they work because I contition you to their NOT being a burst bait and instead making it a reset.
Skarmand: Then I DONT reset and I do a burst bait
Skarmand: And they work
Skarmand: However
Skarmand: Ending every damn combo in a burst bait?
Skarmand: Not so effective.
Skarmand: They can 'rest easy' and 'get out free'
Skarmand: Since they '100% know your option'
Midiman: I'm just not comfortable letting opponents free heh
Midiman: if I was playing solo, I wouldn't care
Skarmand: Solo gets to make more mistakes yes
Skarmand: Also if you dont want to go for an unsafe reset because mash
Skarmand: There is no reason you cannot just let your assist go first every time
Skarmand: Your mix up isn't as sudden but you can at least get a 50:50 if you're smart
Skarmand: Like take my 2LK 2MK Pillar + Copter
Skarmand: Totally safe, you can't mash
Skarmand: And I get 1 6LP or 2LK
Skarmand: You can do that with Copter and M Sekh
Skarmand: I think that would be more effective than ending with a super etc
Skarmand: It's even nastier with M Sekh since I can't PBGC either because the hitstop is like... bugged and doesn't let me do it, and even if I did PBGC I fly into an infinite armor character that cannot be thrown as an assist and !!?!!?!?
Midiman: :I
Midiman: I have to admit now I'm a wee bit too tired to take in the valueable implications of that
Midiman: like, I understand, that is very powerful but damn
Midiman: sorry !!
Skarmand: It's okay
Skarmand: Just
Midiman: considering L0 might be doing stuff tomorrow Ill make an effort to practice though
Midiman: having chat words usually helps
Skarmand: If you're not going to do unsafe resets because you don't want to get reversal'd that's fine, but learn how to set up safe reliably Oki with an assist or your own little gimmick.
Skarmand: If you don't want to reset at least keep very good scary positioning to make your opponent do stupid things.
Skarmand: 2HK Bike
Skarmand: Wow
Skarmand: Its not a reset
Skarmand: But you'd be surprised how many people do dumb shit and run into it
Skarmand: (But it doesn't work if I do it every time, have to mix it up)
Midiman: hmm
Midiman: see the oki thing was the thing i've been doing heh
Midiman: I am much more comfortable doing the Oki thing than resets, heh
Skarmand: Of course, me too.
Midiman: I think I just need to find someone who plays my chars and sit down and work out some resets
Midiman: because I just don't do it, along with combos, although that's always been evident in my play
Skarmand: I make half the shit up I do with Parasoul on the fly
Skarmand: I'm that comfortable with her but you can do something like that too.
Skarmand: I don't think you need a billion combos for each character.
Midiman: ^
Skarmand: Especially Eliza
Midiman: I just have one or two and I just try to work in my conversions
Midiman: thats all I care about heh
Skarmand: What's important, is learning the chains that set up what mix ups
Skarmand: Okay
Skarmand: So
Skarmand: TO DO LIST:
- Learn a safe ish or safe set up that lets you set up a not so optimal but still mix up, mix up.
- Make sure your mid screen and corner combos are good with Eliza
- WATCH SonicFox play Eliza with a word doc open and write down mix ups, conversions, and other neat things.
- Understand when you're getting read and try and do something to make sure it doesn't happen the next time, even if you don't find the right answer right away, you're trying.
- A little less predictable with your PBGC's
Skarmand: Also I have an idea!
Skarmand: Wonder if it will work.
Midiman: oh, that's actually a really helpful todo
Midiman: thanks
Skarmand: Half my lab time in the training mode
Skarmand: Is vs Filia and Big band with all 3 reversals set to random
Skarmand: Fucking with oki assist set ups
Midiman: oh RIGHt you can have fucking random reversals
Midiman: WOW UH I SHOULD BE DOING THIS
Skarmand: Yeah, record 2, or 3.
Skarmand: Set it to random
Skarmand: Also if you set one to up back
Midiman: I've been doing anti-filia block setups <_<
Skarmand: You can see if you can still maintain pressure after
Midiman: hmm
Midiman: gonna have to put that down
Midiman: also make a gdocs for study
Midiman: I planned on a wiki but I dont have anywhere to host it
Midiman: I bet actually i can do taht hmm
Skarmand: []
Skarmand: Before I started playing Bella at all
Skarmand: I made this first.
Skarmand: To get the basics down.
Midiman: hmm?
Skarmand: My link'
Midiman: no I mean like
Midiman: I assume there's more to that sentence than that hehe
Skarmand: Oh
Skarmand: I was just showing you my docs I guess
Skarmand: They're helpful even if you never look back at them
Skarmand: Because you remember things better when it's written out
Midiman: oh, I feel it
Skarmand is now Away.
Midiman: alright, im gonna go ahead and uh, post this jam

I'm going to see if I can't get any information here that's useful for this Diary entry;

Recently, I feel like I've plateaued in this game, specifically in terms of adapting and recognizing patterns. I've had a lot of failure with what I usually do and I don't know which point of my game to improve, leading me to not really focus on anything. I also really don't enjoy my execution abilities at the moment, and I'm trying to get it solved by grinding out new combos, new characters and generally tinkering with other games' requirements as a sort of "weight".

I also have a few grievances with my current character picks-- I don't particularly feel like I should win as much as I do with Eliza, and in the long run it might hurt me to keep playing her while people adjust to her existence, and I can't really justify playing Cerebella at all without really doing what she excels at. These two points basically come down to me not taking the risks to open my opponent up or forcing myself to get around to learning resets. I'm far too used to having the knockdown and going from there, and even then, that's not much too use without having tech chases or setups I fear.

I may stick with Squiggly (Cremation), Eliza (Weight Of Anubis), Cerebella (Devil Horns) as a team, because I feel like this team forces me to deal with point things much more attentively, and I get the fun of having a reversal as an assist finally.

Other than that I'm pretty much in a crummy place, and besides practically playing each day with either Skarmand, gllt, or someone in the #skullgirls irc, along with Tourney, I don't really see any progress, and that makes me fear of having to deal with another wall.

Footage since the last time I posted, in chronological order:

Everything about last nights matches has me upset and unwilling to seek advice

I would love to ask about execution errors or improving them but I don't feel anything useful will come out of it; Buying new parts is out of the question and asides from drilling more hours into it and hopefully not losing whatever things I need to do a thing, I don't feel too convinced I can even improve.

I mean, I dropped 6236 how many times? and it's like

why do I even bother to try combos, it ain't going to work

but that is a completely false statement and only fulfills to make my execution worse by believing it to never be useful, but I can't help be but upset about it. But there's no rationale reason to be upset

I feel like this is the kind of thing that will ruin me to the core, but I can't do a damned thing about it except hope to god that practice somehow makes my execution errors disappear in a fashion that makes playing this game more fun than it has been since a while ago?

It just makes me sad that I can't ever feel like I can be at full potential because full potential means inevitably losing to execution errors, so I just won't bother.

Meh.

EDIT: At least I have some recorded footage!

I had a set with Uzu. I cannot record the archive ( Thanks hitbox, you jerkass ), but he had, as usual, some fantastic words after the fact. I wish he played with me far more often than he did overall, as I feel like I'd improve like as fast as I did when we DID play.

<Uzu> Ok so
<Uzu> You did really well with Bella
<Uzu> You have really improved with her a lot
<Uzu> But it took you 12 matches to get confident on actually doing your mixups and approach with her
<Uzu> You took way too many matches on trying to contest the superjump jHP tear jHP round start
<Uzu> But i'm glad you did contest it, even if late
<Uzu> Last time you even downright beat it with DP throw which was by far the best call
<Uzu> You let me get away with murder way too many times
<Uzu> Whenever you guessed the round start right
<Uzu> And got me cornered
<Uzu> You just waited for me to do something
<Uzu> You should call assist and try to do some pressure in those cases
<Uzu> You can just call chair and jump towards me if you think i'll reversal
<Uzu> You don't actually have to do anything fancy
<Uzu> Jump towards me and block*
<Midiman> give me a bit to respond
<Midiman> gotta handle some stuff
<Uzu> The assist should do the work for you
<Uzu> Sure no probs
<Uzu> The cHP tick throw incoming was great, i actually shouted "NOICE" when i saw you do it
<Uzu> Right now, your biggest weakness by far is that you don't PBGC
<Uzu> Your blocking is excellent
<Uzu> It's really impressive how you actually react to certain stuff
<Uzu> Like double taco
<Uzu> Most times when i landed a reset (Mainly jLP jLK jMK jMP dash under with Parasoul) it wasn't because you didn't block it properly, it was because you weren't trying to block at all
<Uzu> I mistimed it earlier during the set and you got a jab off (It's actually an unmashable setup, you can't even do air gregor or most air supers) and you never actually tried to block it after that
<Midiman> alright im back
<Uzu> wb bb
<Midiman> I don't DP throw or contest things because I don't want to get CH'd or risk getting a special I don't want, which happens more often than it should
<Midiman> r.e. assist I don't find myself thinking about assist a lot, or it comes out when I dont want it
<Uzu> I was about to say
<Uzu> That everytime you actually hit me with an assist call during that set
<Uzu> Were very good assist calls
<Uzu> But
<Uzu> You didn't call assist nearly as much as you should have
<Uzu> Specially with a disjointed assist like chair
<Uzu> The crossups with throw assist were pretty good though
<Midiman> alright let me chunk away at this here
<Midiman> I am.. never? confident in Skullgirls because
<Midiman> people just do a bunch of shit and then anything I expect to work like 2LK 2LK or frametrap 5MP 5HP or low into overhead tends to get beat
<Uzu> I know the feel
<Midiman> so I just wait overall for people to hang themselves; it is inevitable they will; it is something I desperately want to change but I uh
<Uzu> That shit is so good in real fighting games
<Uzu> Like KOF
<Midiman> I don't want to take that risk without at least getting 1st consistently at locals :\
<Uzu> i get people with low into heavy or double low so much
<Uzu> But in SG it's like woops PBGC, Invul assist, Super
<Midiman> I tend to not do assist -> go in and block because I only use them as desperation attacks or oki ender
<Midiman> ender into oki, even
<Midiman> I cannot pbgc for the life of me because of my execution and timing? I guess; it's been a painful point for actual years at this point now, lol
<Midiman> but uh, despite my execuses and reasonings, thanks
<Midiman> because I generally don't get advice of this level.. ever?
<Midiman> I only really get it if I ask you :^|
<Uzu> :D
<Uzu> You really should just go on training mode
<Uzu> And PBGC random assists
<Uzu> I learned how to PBGC by doing it vs Updo
<Uzu> Also, You don't reset enough when you have the advantage
<Midiman> I don't reset with cere ever
<Uzu> I only came back from that match where i had Double and Bella with pixel health because you did full strings with Eliza every single itme
<Uzu> time*
<Midiman> I find it generally not helpful for me at my current mental state lol
<Uzu> I wasn't going to call assist nor mash because bella had 90% red health
<Midiman> and I fear people just reversalling out, I dont have an assist to beat it
<Midiman> I reset with Eliza in the corner and thats it.
<Uzu> But you let me go back to neutral anyway, even though you had the upper hard there
<Midiman> I still feared it anyways because it happens
<Uzu> Yeah i can understand
<Uzu> But you should work on that
<Uzu> I think PBGC would get you very far ATM
<Uzu> More than anything else
<Uzu> If you can block 20 seconds of mixups then imagine how godlike would your PBGC punishes be when you get used to doing it
<Uzu> Aside from it kind of being a requirement since you pretty much lost like 5k from chip damage that one match where i just did very slow strings into copter
<Uzu> And that shouldn't really be happening
<Midiman> trust, I tried <_<
<Midiman> but I may or may not try to see whats up with pbgc later tonight
<Midiman> its just generally annoying that I cant get them first try or a lot of things
<Midiman> I scream everytime I cannot get a dp
<Midiman> I just have to deal with exec and stick stuff before attempting to do smart calls
<Midiman> but eh ill stop complaining, thanks for the advice
<Midiman> mind if I put this in my training dairy or whichever
<Uzu> Go for it
<Midiman> rad
<Uzu> Also i don't want you to just try PBGCing today
<Uzu> Try it for at least a month whenever you hit the lab
<Uzu> It'll seriously do wonders for you
<Midiman> well of course

I feel like I've done nothing but stagnant since I last said anything. I've been losing more and more consistently, and I feel like I am losing all grip on whichever I should be learning.

Inbetween
  • losing to Skarmand often and not being able to ask specific, useful advice
  • losing today to Duckator on stream and seeing "it isn't as if Midiman could block anyways"
  • losing at locals and not getting anything better than 3rd in the span of the whole year and not coming close to dispelling the "SoCal is garbage" mantra
  • not being able to at least go more than positive between sets of Mayor
  • not being able to at least go 50% against WingZero
  • not having a consistent person to talk to about my grievances
  • not being able to understand why I'm losing
  • not having the creativity to make use of what apparently is a top-tier team
  • still going 3/2 in Skullbats
  • being considered poor enough that I can't get legitimate sets or advice* (This is a personal thing, obviously. I just feel this way)
and a gigantic amount of personal stress, it is starting to get to me. I legitimately can't figure out where to improve, and it hurts so very much.

I honestly feel like I can't pull myself up by my own boot-straps and it is frustrating. Watching footage just nails the point home-- I can practice all these "hey lets try to find something that beats this" kinds of situations, but it seems to not culminate into anything useful

Do I just quit?

I mean, shit, I don't want to, I want to keep playing, but I just don't know how to feel anymore. Should I just handle my mental state? is it just the gigantic amount of stress? what is it.

Even as I type this, I don't want to rationalize quitting because it doesn't help at all, but bagh. Maybe I need a training partner????

EDIT:
Footage
EDIT2:
I kind of feel like, I should jsut go back to Solo and focus on just focus on confirms; I feel like I am going through too many crisis', and it isn't helpful--

I also feel like finding a partner in SoCal is a foolish thing-- or I should just ask just all the other people. All the people I feel are better than me don't seem to be invested in all or interested in it.

How do you not know what to work on when it's right in front of your face. I didn't say that just to be a dick. You really can't block for shit.
The second you have to block something you panic and go straight for pushblock into something thinking that it's a get out of jail free card. It's not.

You can't stand to be in blockstun for more than a second because you have absolutely no patience.
Just look at our games, even at neutral you have no patience. At one point I'm just standing there doing nothing, not even blocking, while you flail around trying to punch the air.
I don't know why you feel like you need to be doing something at all times but you need to get out of that mindset. Learn how to do nothing.

Practice putting yourself in a defensive position in a real match and train yourself to look for escape opportunities instead of going "Oh shit I blocked something, better start pushing some buttons." It's not what you're doing that's making you lose, it's what you're not doing.

  • losing to Skarmand
  • losing
  • losing
  • not
  • not
  • not
  • not
  • not
  • still not
  • not being considered

You forgot
"Not asking Skarmand to play with me in probably six months or maybe EVER?"
I am here to play, always.
It feels like you never really want to play and improve unless I make you.
If I ever got a 'Later, sure', you rarely would go through with it. (Until recently).

If you want to improve and talk to me about anything SG I am here all the time.

If you're looking to get better, ask me to beat you up.

I can't lie about this-- way more often than not, it feels (to me) as if playing you is part charity-- I don't feel like I make enough of an improvement between sets to be asking for sets from you, period.

EDIT: Right, I should say that I am glad that this is at least the case, and not anything else. I am grateful for that

(including the rest)
Can't argue with that. S'what I get for writing down stream of consciousness style things.

I had a chance to play @Uzu in a serious set after he was convinced to play the game again. As usual, I found some decent help but I think I fell off much faster than I usually do against him.

I also ended up fighting Lawnba and Mayor in the same session. Not that bad. It was nice to have a clear head for once instead of feeling extremely clouded a whole set; Footage below

Part 1 (50m23s) http://www.hitbox.tv/video/594477
Part 2 (2hr55m23s) http://www.hitbox.tv/video/594478

so I dont forget

So watching over my play, I'm actually kind of in a state of shock: I used to be WAY BETTER than I am now-- my play was more confident, I actually wasn't scared to go on the offensive, I did more active things than I do now. I don't know why I stopped doing these things, but I am actually very scared to think it's stress and that scares me half to death because I play this game to avoid stress.

It actually upsets me to a very high degree that this seems to be the case and I am actually at a loss on how to fix it; Mental health is not my forte.

I don't even think it's fair for me to be declining at this point-- I don't feel like I'm in a place where I should be allowed to decline, so that kind of discourages me further. It's not the proper reaction so I keep that in mind, but it sucks to me to think that I'm declining at a rate where I can't even beat local players consistently.

I kind of wish I knew what to do about it?

My playlists were cool as hell though. I blame foobar blowing up all the damn time

EDIT: As a side note for myself, I have a huge amount of trouble asking for advice; Without the ability to record matches and streaming ruining connections for some, I find it extremely hard to ask questions if it isn't the heat of the moment. In some cases, I feel like asking questions isn't the right thing to be doing and then I run into problems head-on and burn out. It is a major factor in playing any match with Skarmand: Either tackle it head on and take the losses or decline. It is extremely suffering to not be able to ask questions that seem worthwhile.

This wouldn't be an issue if I had any other disk ever, but such it is.

Talking to Devita about general errata and playing a bit of Vampire Savior has helped me kind of cool off and approach SG a lil bit differently. Applying general game knowledge in Vampire Savior and talking about a bit of the state of Skullgirls players / mentalities / shortsightings compared to other scenes/games, and also applying general stuff kind of REALLY helps applying my knowledge in SG!

Here's to hoping I can go to tourney friday
