Ayyy. I'm Sharpie. What's good?

I host this new show called "I Wanna Be The Skullgirl" on EightySixed's twitch channel.
Basically, this thread is to keep the information and VoDs available for quick/easy access. Plus, the schedule for the program can be found here as well!

So now, you're asking yourself: "What is I Wanna Be The Skullgirl even supposed to be, Sharpie? Your run-of-the-mill online tournament filled with the same players every week? A rip-off of Ultimate Showstopper featuring your boiz @POS Industries and @ElkyDori ?!"

GLAD YOU ASKED.

I Wanna Be The Skullgirl (or IWBTS, before I destroy both my ctrl and v keys) is not just a tournament, but a news show that aims to entertain and teach both all players, not just new, but veterans as well. We have The Peanut Gallery with @mcpeanuts, Beta Discussion and Changes with @guitalex2007, Gameplay Mechanics with @doubledark, and Bread and Butter Combos / Combo Videos with @guitalex2007 and @6-Let . We even have Salt Matches every week with different "super secret guest commentators" and a famous player from the same region!

THE PEANUT GALLERY, hosted by McPeanuts, is an analysis segment. In this segment, McPeanuts takes a video either requested by the community or a video from prominent players at a recent tournament and dissects it with the play-by-play information.

BETA DISCUSSION AND CHANGES, hosted by Guitalex, is just a basic update with the newest nerfs and buffs to the game as LabZero prepares to complete Skullgirls.

GAMEPLAY MECHANICS, hosted by DoubleDark, takes a more in-depth look at different mechanics inside the game and explains how (and why) they work in actual gameplay. This segment both expands and works alongside with the in-game tutorial to help advance new players as well as remind intermediate players about techniques at their disposal.

BREAD AND BUTTER COMBOS, hosted by @6-Let , is a segment aimed at newer players that teaches how to make the most out of any combo.

SALT MATCHES are different every week. The guest commentator will be playing another player in his region or a player chosen by the community. In a classic FT5, this segment is aimed at more intermediate and advanced players who enjoy seeing exhibit matches.
So yeah, we chock full of brand-new content every weekend on Saturday at 8PM 6PM EDT.

I bet you really don't care about this though.
You're probably thinking "Man, fuck all this content. WHEN IS THE TOURNAMENT SO I CAN WRECK KIDS?"

Valid and completely hormonal question, random person.

The tournament will be ran through Challonge.com and a link to each week's challonge page will be posted in this thread right here! There are a couple of rules to the tournament (which can be found here). Be sure to also join the steam group chat ahead of time. The steam group is here. Due to time constraints, we really only have time to run a 16-player tournament at most, but anyone else who signs up after the 16th player has, will be placed on a waiting list for the next week. Basically, HURRY UP AND SIGN UP!

Okay, that about covers it.
Smell you guys later!

I never read this.

I was also working lol

It says I need a team to sign up

Welp. Accidently clicked the "team participation" button. Should be fixed now.

Sharpie I swear I'll have that video for this weekend or my name isn't Adalberto Alejandro Ruiz-Montañez.

Which it isn't, but I'll still try.

(at least the initials are real)

updated with description of segments. working on an updated version of the schedule now.

so just for feedback+opinions (wanted or not :p),
- 8-person tourney is fine with the amount of content you want to put in. That would be about 14 sets so about 40-50+ minutes of matches not including the guest set. Plus these are newer players so everyone who entered will have at least one match commentated with tips.

- The guest set later in the line up, not between tourney segments, and be ft5.

-A wrap-up at the end , just bullet points of the nights talk (Ground Bounce, BNB, Combo Making, etc.) "the top tips of the night".

Guest Intro> Tourney 4 matches> segment> Tourney 4 matches(2 winners/2loser) > segment> tourney 3 loser matches> segment> guest set > recap > final 3 matches>more sponsor stuff>peace

The videos were good, Nice questions asked, liked the banter, and looking forward to the next. Hopefully the kinks will be ironed out, good luck.

Guest Intro> Tourney 4 matches> segment> Tourney 4 matches(2 winners/2loser) > segment> tourney 3 loser matches> segment> guest set > recap > final 3 matches>more sponsor stuff>peace

Each set takes about 10 minutes to stream, including after game commentary and the time it takes to get each player in the lobby and ready. If I were to stream about 4 sets just in the first round of tourney, I will have used up 40 minutes already.

I could definitely stream every single game, but that would be an over six hour long tournament which, even with breaks for content, would be tiring to both the participants and the commentators. In addition, the stream would end at 1AM instead of 10PM now, which people are already saying is too long/too late.

The schedule you have proposed is essentially the same schedule I have now, except that I will only be streaming 2 games per round in Winners and Loser's Finals. This is not an unheard of concept. In fact, both USS and Newbie Night do not stream every single match: USS impromptuly chooses which matches will be streamed when they come up and Newbie Night had winner's and loser's run on different streams with Loser's Finals being streamed on the main stream.

Really, the only thing that will be changed in the next stream isn't the amount of tournament games that will be streamed, but the timing and procedures that are used to decide which games are chosen for stream. If it gets to the point where the players are able to make each set less than 5 minutes, I'll be able to stream more of the tournament on stream, but like I've said before this stream focuses on content that players have created and information to be shared on players, so moving forward I will continue to try to focus primarily on that.

when you have a match going have 6-let get the next set ready in another lobby and send an invite. Would prob cut a lot of time you guys spent waiting.

I also wanted to make note that the majority of the matches went 2-0, 10/14 not including the GF.

If the timer runs out it its around 3 minutes. If every match of a set timed out that would be 9 minutes 2-1 score. There was 1 eight minute video and 2 five minute videos 18 minutes.

but I will round up to 10 minutes like you said for match and commentary and put videos to 20 minutes, with 14 sets that is about 2 hours and 40 minutes.
Now for the guest match I have watched ft15 go to 45 minutes, I will just toss that in. The total still reaches 3 hours 25 minutes. Stream would end 11:25 for this extreme example.

Anywho I guess I wasn't fully aware of what you are going for but thanks for the response.

Any specific rules? Thought I saw them last week but can't find them now.

Oh sorry. I forgot to make the new ruleset on pastebin.

It should be updated later this afternoon!

Will you stay for a long time?

Cause I wanna join this but I don't have the computer to play in.

I want to be the Skullgirl to end my suffering..

Oh wait, this isn't a real "I want" thread XD

For the record, Sony Movie Studio Platinum has most of the features of Vegas (probably all the ones most people use) and is only $80.

And I've seen your videos; you could do that stuff in Windows Movie Maker no problem.

So the thing's in 20, right?

I'm under some storm BS, so pls forgive me if the connections sputter or I have to drop/DQ ;_;

Also, asking for some friends, do we need Challonge for this or can they enter as guests

Oh did you find it? I was checking the list and notice you were already there.

Does Sony Movie Studio Platinum do masking as well as vegas does? It'd be super convenient for me to get a better program for masking than After Effects and something not super expensive.

Its also worth noting that this week, we're giving registration priority to any and all players with LESS THAN 50 HOURS in the game.

Hopefully with the new free week, we'll get tons of new blood!

I have slightly more than 50 hours but just slightly.

Really a drop in the bucket compared to the age of the known universe.

Nice job to everyone that entered the tourney this week, I had fun playing the lot of you

I'll bow out of the next one, the lag was bad for me but I imagine it was that much worse for the rest of you. I'll try my best to watch the next episode, though!

I entered the beginner's tournament on Saturday. Lost my matches, but oh lawdy did I win over the commentators. I'll definitely try to show up again next time :D
Video of my matches, for those of you who care, of which there admittedly aren't many.

I didn't get to see any of the stream because I was busy with my own weekly stream, but what did you guys think of my segment this week? I tried to gear it more towards newer players.

The general reception in chat was actually really positive.

A lot of players understood it more than previously and even started learning from it. I've linked it to both the players in the video and asked for their feedback as well, but haven't heard anything unfortunately.

BTW, SORRY TO EVERYONE FOR NOT UPLOADING VODS YET. I was kinda tied up with some stream stuff yesterday, but I can upload it today after work!!
:D

Thanks for being patient~

They are every Saturday, so there will be one held this Saturday as well.

After I finish uploading these videos, I'll make the Challonge page and Reddit post for this week's.
