So, I've heard of this "Instant Air Dash" technique. Something about jumping and dashing at the same time to quickly close distance and get juicy overheads on the opponent. It sounds nifty, but unfortunately I don't see a lot of tips on how to get it to work. Does anybody know a good way to practice it in Training and confirm if I'm doing it right? Likewise, I'm probably mistaken in its utility, so if people'd like to talk about better ways to use it, that'd probably help some people out. I'd certainly appreciate it. Thanks!

In dread Tefnut Eliza lies dreaming. In strange Aeons, even death may die.

It's just jumping, then pressing two punch buttons to air dash as soon as you're off the ground, and usually following it with a normal to do a very fast overhead. It allows you to use aerial moves while staying close to the ground, and giving your opponent less time to register that you're air borne, rather than jumping normally and waiting to come down. For example, it's good for resets. Keep in mind that you can't block while air dashing, making it a risky tool.

Just make sure your inputs are coming out at the right time. Jump up, immediately hit two punch buttons to dash, and immediately hit an attack button after that. If you're having trouble, make sure the inputs are coming out in that order. J.hp and J.mp are the most common IAD normals for Filia, if you play her.

Eliza's IAD j.lk is really good. It comes out really quick and can be easily confirmed into a number of things.

You also don't necessarily have to attack after the air-dash. For example, a common tactic with Filia is to IAD into a whiffed air-throw, allowing her to land back on the ground faster. This gives her a basic high/low mix-up, among other options.

IAD is jump forward, tap right. Two stick taps. You could do 2P shortcut as well, but it might not come off as quick/instant

Find which works best for you

I have always preferred the 96 (keyboard notation) method, as I don't waste a macro on my controller or risk getting a jumping normal if I do the input manually and screw up.

Than again, I learned to iad from games where there was no 2p shortcut (I think).

Seems like most characters who get a lot of mileage out of iads (Fillia, Fortune) don't have a particularly high execution window on getting out super low air dashes regardless of which method you use.
