Indivisible: Lab Zero's Action-RPG! (General Discussion)

Minus 24 hours after the campaign ended and we're already talking about who's not gonna be playable? The next 2 years are gonna be wild.
P. S. If I could get away with stealing someone's joke... That ninja is so anime I'm running late for school with a piece of toast in my mouth.

Wonder who's got the non-playable axe... Only one I really care about is Leilani XD still, I'll admit am a lil miffed that some revealed wasn't actually playable. Eh. Onwards to the full game either way!

Dhar's going to be the tutorial Incarnation? I didn't know that. I just thought he was the first one she absorbs.

It's only a matter of time before Waifu Wars 2 will truly begin, with this recent news...

He's the first one she absorbs, so you can kind of assume he'll be there to introduce the party battle mechanics.

Can be very easily interpreted as "the ones who received bios are pretty much guaranteed to be playable".
I would hope that someone in the know can give us a definitive answer on this. An answer that also extends to "all incarnations that were revealed at the $50,000 milestones".

Yeah, I guess it is kind of silly to do so looking back on it, but people were hella planning team compositions in a game where everything's subject to change.

Hah, yeah, I hope someone tackles this, it would be a shame if the after-successful funding glow was marred by people flipping out over misinformation.

At the end, "nothing are final, everything still can be changed" always be said.

Is sad if someone already revealed is not a playable one, but this can happen.

(Is sad too the hype go down to fast after the end of the campaign... so little to the next, so slow progress...)

So, apparently, L0 doesn't hold the IP with indivisible, 505 games does.

This is worrying and disappointing to me. It makes no sense we have such insane copyright laws and they never even end up protecting the original creators, just publishers, this is true with both film, music, and games.

Anyways, @Ravidrath , regarding " and it will revert to us if they don't do anything with it for a period of time.", would that include merchandise or other sort of "spin-offy" content? If so, in practice, isn't that an indefinite amount of time?

They did mention this before the campaign. And don't gloss over the rest of the info there. Having first refusal on a sequel is kinda huge and even having the option to gain more control isn't something I see done either. The team are ecstatic they made it. Why is all the doom and gloom happening? It hasn't even been a day damn :T

@Ravidrath Will you be sharing these non in game related goals? Before or when or after we reach those goals? I think we'd love to celebrate in our hearts when you guys reach the goals.

After reading that full post, I wouldn't worry about it.

We've known that since before the campaign started.

I remember hearing that 505 retaining some rights would likely be the case and it wasn't just L0 has full ownership, but I never saw any specifics. I guess I assumed it'd be leaning more towards L0's side.

They mentioned it'd swing more their way the more money they made. If the team says it's far beyond one of the better deals they could get why complain about it?

I bet one of the milestones for better revenue share is getting $2m. It would make sense if suddenly it was L0 who gave more money to the main project.

Of course there's still the money they got for the prototype...

Also $25K till animated intro.

Woohoo! 25K is like a drop in the bucket for the amount we've raised.

From the AMA
And by last Incarnation count:
  • 28 Revealed Incarnations
  • 9 Guest Incarnations (Annie, Calibretto, The Drifter, Juan, Lea, Red, Shantae, Shovel Knight, Zackasaurus)
  • 2 Fan-Created Incarnations (Divinity tier)
Estimated 27 to be playable, they revealed 28. Guests and and Divinity guaranteed in. So perhaps one of the Incarnations on the reveal chart gets benched. Maybe. So there's nothing to worry about for the coming 2 years development.

Maybe they hadn't thought of the ninja guy at the time and that's why it's now at 28?

I'm interpreting it to mean that the characters with bios are planned to be playable, but other ones we've seen like Scottish Samurai might not be. And some plans may change over the course of development, nothing is ever set in stone.

@everyone worried about being able to play as their waifu/husbando/doggo (I guess doggo people are less worried)

We revealed more characters than planned, because we switched to $50k reveals instead of $100k reveals when the campaign was going slowly, and we kept up the pace because we'd already committed to it. Not everyone shown was originally planned, and not everyone originally planned was shown. There do have to be SOME plot-related secrets, after all. :^)
We now have to see if we can actually get to everyone shown within the schedule, while still making the characters we had planned but did not show. <- This is the main reason we're forced to be noncommittal about whether all shown characters will be playable. We don't know if we can, and we'd rather promise less and deliver more, than promise more and fail. (This should sound familiar to SG backers.)

From what I remember the 10k tier either doesn't fully cover the cost of implementing an incarnation, or at least comes so close to not profiting that it's not worth the massive amount of work needed to make many of them.
Likely doesn't cover the cost when you include planning and all the rest of it.
That's why we're not gonna do a billion of them.

Anyways, @Ravidrath , regarding " and it will revert to us if they don't do anything with it for a period of time.", would that include merchandise or other sort of "spin-offy" content? If so, in practice, isn't that an indefinite amount of time?
No, only game/sequel-related things. It's a definite amount of time, a short one for deals of this type, and definite products.

I do want to stress again that the deal we have with 505 is AMAZING. We are pretty dang happy with it!

I'm okay as long as Toko is playable.

Well actually everyone is like "I'm okay as long as X is playable" but I understand the situation now so I'm cool.

Okay, thanks for the explanation, I'll calm down now. It's just that I was super hyped and already planning to test the multiple possibilities with all those characters. It reminds me a lot of Chrono Cross, actually; you have tons of characters, each one of them with special abilities and stories, but sadly, Chrono Cross felt a little rushed at some points, and some of those characters felt more like fillers than anything (looking at you, Turnip). If L0 gives each of their characters a nice story arc, then I'll be happy, and accept that not all of them might be playable... and knowing L0, I'm sure I'm not going to be disappointed.

Well I have hope that Lab Zero will deliver but yeah over promising now is a bad idea.

From all understood, with all the cost they'll cover outside of the 2 million they give, it sure sounds sweet! I just hope that with all this your working conditions overall will be better than with SG!

And hey, for those that worry for the indivisible sequel possibility already(man, a day without worrying is criminal i guess), just tell yourself that it will makes SG2 more likely for the third project!

@Mike_Z Speaking of which, i heard once that one of the type of game that you would like to do one day is a competitive puzzle-fighting game. I'm curious to know, what game of that kind you like best? Good game of that kind are few and far between!

All I'm getting out of this is that there is still reason to be excited about playable Incarnations we haven't seen at all yet. Woo!

Did you think there wouldn't be any story related characters or surprises?

Alright, that sounds much better then what I feared then, and you guys *have* said they gave you guys a pretty spectacular agreement quite a few times now, I guess I just heard "Thy aren't getting the IP" and the alarm bells went off. (I'm aware that too is a typical thing but...)

yeah I thought they just used those to be able to reveal every 50K instead of designing new ones

In case you won't be able to make character A playable, what its status will be? Incarnation but non-playable or character but not an incarnation or not presented in game at all or what?

Naga Rider or bust *thrashes Guitar of Justice*
I Wonder how many soul will cry if Naga Rider end up being a shopkeeper!

He's on the indiegogo page demonstrating how attacks work, why the heck wouldn't he be playable?

Here's one thing has has been bugging me though. If not all the 'carnations revealed are playable, then why are all of them either visibly armed or described to be fighters?

Surprise you get to dress them up with armor and weapons them place them on a stand to decorage Ajna's realm with.

My guess is it'll be similar to how non-playable skullgirls characters work, they wont have any impact on the game itself but they'll exist

Because all of them were designed to be playable in the best case scenario.

He's the non-playable tutorial character.
Like Ms. Victoria.
