Indivisible: Lab Zero's Action-RPG! (General Discussion)

$15,125 left till full VA.
What was the previous BackerKit total? Was it under $50k? It almost looks like it went down.

If it did go down, I imagine that would probably be because of people merging multiple pledges to substitute an upgrade they had made. Hope I'm just seeing things though.

Honestly I don't remember but I also had the feeling that it went down. But it could be that it was around $49999 and I just forgot.

Yeah, it went down a few hundred bucks.

Guessing a handful of people rolled back upgrades or add-ons.

Slam dunking the herb into the sack is great XD The primary character design reminds me of Carl Clover, in face and body shape, honestly..

Neat there is a run back animation now instead of turnaround then run back.

They got that mvc3 Phoenix right game plan going. I like it.

oh my god they keep getting cuter and cuter

I love the concept of their moveset. What's really interesting is that it looks like they have 4 key moves that are dependent on each other, Forage/Grind/Toss/Use. So unless one of these moves is their Iddhi Power, this might be an example of how some characters could have multiple tiered moves tied to an input, instead of just 3 blanket moves. That would put a lot of weight on wisely storing ATB Actions during battle for certain characters.

Ah, thanks for the confirm. Well as long as you guys keep these great updates coming, the total will continue rolling up for sure!

I instantly thought of Dota Alchemist with the "powerful thing that explodes in your face if you time it wrong" thing.

The foraging thing is just weirdly explained. Will it just be standing there spending actions to "stockpile" power (Phoenix), or will they actually have to move around/attack enemies to find ingredients?

I am absolutely in love with this new character.

looks like Villager's deal in Smash where you have to use moves in order before you get the desired result

Villager has to plant a seed, then water it, then when the tree sprouts you chop it down, completing the sequence of moves

This looks like it follows a similar structure

EDIT: welp I totally didn't read the article
my bad

The Indiegogo fund total still says "last updated January 9th" even though it definitely updated a couple days ago. ???

Do we have a real world cultural equivalent that Ginseng and Honey are based on? The clothes and hat seem Asian (which makes sense since it's still early game) but do we have anything more specific?

Edit: Researching the asian variety of ginseng (Panax ginseng) is also called korean ginseng, and according to this piece http://www.saveur.com/honey-south-korea-obsession-trend Koreans love honey. I've tried to pinpoint what culture the clothes mostly resemble, but can't find anything. Furthermore, ginseng is closely associated with Chinese medicine, so Korea-equivalent (or strictly so) isn't a sure bet either. There's also some news about some Malaysian honey contributing to health. I'm kinda surprised with a name like honey there isn't even a hint of bees, rather it seems like the pair focus more on the floral source rather than the byproduct.

You guys sound pretty close to me. The main goal of their Foraging seems to be for stockpiling, like the Phoenix Wright example that's been mentioned. I imagine that when they Forage they'll just quickly pluck something out when you use the Action. Then after you pluck the item, one of the other Actions will probably change, like Forage will turn into Toss, or maybe the Use-Item action is Toss until you start Grinding items into a powder. I dunno, we'll see.

In any case, I like that it appears you'll have to commit GinHon to a deliberate Healing strategy in order to take full advantage of their abilities. You won't just be able to build three meters and burn a big Heal in one Action, like Razmi could in the Prototype. You'll have to decide early in the fight whether you want GinHon to prepare the team for the long haul or not, and get them started on that gameplan right away, even before the Iddhi starts building.

If requiring a longterm strategy is how the full game approaches Heals that are equivalent to the effectiveness of Razmi's Prototype Heal, then that's a big change. You won't be able to rely on strong Heals like that as much in shorter battles anymore, even with a team that builds Iddhi fast.

Well it's the second time they forgot to update the update date (this is so fun to say outloud). No biggie probably.

So about the mixing herbs thing before they explode; are we going to be holding the button down to keep mixing or will we actually have to do a circual motion, like, for example, you do in games like South Park the Strick of Truth?

I guess the second would only make sense if this was a super with a freeze frame, as to not jump between enemy selection.

Well there are 3 animations and each file has a word "attack" in it. Which, I assume, means that each gif corresponds to one of the three basic actions/attacks. And since none of them has a potion or mixture in it, I think using a potion could be an Iddhi, while grinding serves as a power-up for that. Alternatively they could have more actions on their three standard commands since Ravi on NeoGAF mentioned that they wanted G&H to have a heal on a basic action, not on Iddhi power. Here are his quotes
And, yes, the current thought that is Ginseng and Honey's neutral attack will be a party heal.
Yeah, they're basically a healer/debuffer with a gambler element.
Second one could also suggest that probably her toss action could differentiate depending on what item she foraged.
Those are all speculation obviously.

But do we get to accidentally instakill the entire party like Cait Sith's Dice in FFVII

because that sounds like a hilarious time

Yeah, Peter's description is what made me assume the Use(Heal) action would be one of their standard inputs, but we'll see if that's how it ends up. I really like the idea that their moveset could vary as they start Foraging though, and having a Heal as one of their Normal moves could give them great utility compared to an Iddhi dependent Healer.

No doubt Iddhi will still be a big deal for them though. Even if they just have simple Supers like "Forage Multiple Items at Once" or "Grind Salve to MAX" those could be incredibly useful.

Now I'm kinda curious what their toss attack would be if they hadn't foraged beforehand. Rocks? (Bees?) Tangentially, will they be able to bank a foraged item between battles? Could you forage multiple times to combine in one large buffed mortar/pestle heal? Will their Iddhi super be an attack? Just things I think about for such a character.

Will we be able to see which items we foraged? Do G&H keep the items if they foraged but finished the battle early?

@ArgonBern I hope this is the case. Coming prepared to the next battle would be helpful. And if different areas have different foraging items this would be extra helpful. I wonder if they can store multiple concoctions along with multiple foraged items.

Well, they could have attack and iddhi both as heals. I just wanted to point out that neither of these three animations looked like heal to me, except for toss. But that doesn't seem likely.

That's a lot to think about. From the descriptions, it sounds like they'll be able to make the powders from multiple items, since they're trying to experiment with new mixes. Being able to stack buffs would also add some incentive to keep Foraging even after you've got a safe mix, just to see if you could squeeze a little more out of it. I like it when games play with your greed a little bit.

I wouldn't mind if they couldn't attack at all before they Foraged. I like the idea of weighing the trade of a buff for your team against a debuff on your enemy, with no default option. Like you guys are saying though, maybe they'll actually be able to hold on to Foraged items after battle. There's also the chance that some items they pick up might be rocks or poisons that they can't make anything out of and have to toss out before they can Grind.

Maaan, now I just want to hear more about one of the other characters too. They said Quadira is defense oriented, so I wonder what that might entail. What fun things could they have come up with for Zahra or Kushi I wonder?

Amazing update! Such a tease at the end though, I want to know more! What kind of stats will we get to play around and minmax with? I'm dying to see L0's unique take on all the old RPG mechanics we've gotten used to over the decades.

So order of leveling Incarnations up is as follows:
- Discover Ringsels in the wild (optionally beat guardian monster).
- Do stuff in battles to charge them up.
- Give charged Ringsels to Incarnations to get their Atk/Def lvls up to 4.
- When certain Incarnation gets Lv4 Atk and Def, you unlock their personal quest.
- Upon clearing that quest you get final upgrade for said Incarnation effectively maxing them out.
NB: it is possible to max out all incarnations if you're able to collect all hidden Ringsels.

I have a couple of questions though:
1. Do you need only one charged up Ringsel to level up certain stat? (I assume yes)
2. Are some of the Ringsels missable? (I assume also yes)

2. Are some of the Ringsels missable? (I assume also yes)
...They've pretty explicitly stated they won't be on the main path.

I guess I should use another word? I meant if it's possible for you to get cut from some of them and not be able to return and get them from certain point onward.

1. It's currently planned that it will take multiple Ringsels for each upgrade

2. They're going to be all over and some will be really well hidden. But there won't be any "lost forevers."

EDIT: Figured you were talking about "lost forevers!" We hate those.

Not going to happen, Mike has said this.

Throw the word "permanently" in there.

Okay, thanks, guys. I probably red Mike saying that about the lost ones but forgot it.

His pants game is on point though. Those are really authentic.

What's the source of this picture?
