Hey, it's just a disembodied head, nothing Ajna can't sobat kick into oblivion easily, even without the help of her inner army. I'm really curious about the blue colored hairline inside the black, are they thinking about subtly re-designing her to have slightly shorter/longer hair...?

I was a fan of the hawkish look he had before...
I think it's the biggest redesign so far?

I do dig that new design though, really liking that gun sword thing. He looks more conquistador-ish now, more like a gentleman for lack of a better term.

I liked the older design, but I like the new weapon too.
 
Trying to shoot a pistol with a bayonet twice its size seems rather unstable to me.

I demand realism in my game about a girl who puts people inside her head!

I do dig that new design though, really liking that gun sword thing.

Actually now that i think about it he reminds me of a hipster now... :o
 
It's more the posture than the actual design that seems weird to me. But I'm guessing there are backstory changes and it will make sense.

I'm pretty iffy on his new design as well. On one hand, I can completely get what they were going for here, and I agree that taller, lanky-er silhouette, especially with the design of the clothing, gives him a more focused concept and looks better, wheras his old clothes was a mishmash and didn't really look all that appealing; but I feel there's a significant mismatch between the design of his new face and the rest of the changes.

His facial features/shape just doesn't give the right air of posh, "look how above you I am" I think the silhouette, pose, and clothes were intended to give. I think simply reverting his facial features/expression to be more in line with what it was before. The old design, while sort of a conceptual mishmash, DID have a very solid sense of personality, I really think that bringing back the sort of sly scowling look, either cowboy esque to match what it was before or haughty, hubristic french musketeer with the mustache given the new theme would help a lot. He looks like a friendly grandpa now.

I'm also a bit baffled by the skin tone/ethnicity change, it seems sort of pointless and I don't think it works from a visual design standpoint, as well as the fact that Vasco had a clear european, colonial/imperalist theme, being both cowboy and conquistador based. The game's cast is very culturally inspired so he occupied a niche in that regards that is now unfilled, and on that note of niches being occupied: i'm a bit concerned he's a too similar to Antoine now, who is already a European themed, noble-poshy dark skinned character, and based on what we've heard in his bio and the video, it seems like his character arc is going to be built around the racial tension there. Would the new Vasco also be facing discrimination from his peers?

Both to tie the design itself together, and to make him more distinct from Antoine, I really think reverting his face and skin tone to be closer to what they were before would help. I also think reverting to the old gold, tan, and silver color scheme might help bring back the old west feel/mood the design had while still keeping the upper class air that the actual silhouette the new design has.

Between Vasco, Qadira, and Baozhai's changes, there's a lot i'm not too hot on, even if I totally get the reasoning you guys gave for almost all of them. Hopefully changes for the other incarnations i'll be more keen on.

What is the hat supposed to be anyway? At first I thought it was like the top of the hat was ripped off, but now I see that it's just some kind of thing attached to the front of a smaller hat.

I assume some sort of metal plate?

Simplifying some designs to animate I get it, and I'm glad Phoebe was kept very close to original, but this Vasco just isn't Vasco. He isn't a cowboy, he isn't a conquistador, he isn't a mercenary, he isn't even spanish anymore.
I get that you're mixing up the work of multiple artists, but you need to still keep focus. You already got rid of peculiar characters like the gnome and scottish samurai, and the remaining designs are losing any punch they had.
 
I guess I just like the "cowboy with attitude" stereotype too much. As mentioned by MajoraZ his face makes him look like a friendly grandpa now. I know it's impossible to make every character liked by everyone but it just bums me out.

Can we have this character and the old Vasco?

Oh yeah i agree! Old Vasco was a pretty cool looking design and i wonder if we'll still see him somehow as another character or something

like... idk. The new design of Vasco makes him look like the Sheriff NPC that you would run into and that he would tell you about the stone hearted Vasco who's been running around with no opposition in the local area and that it would be really good of Ajna to help hunt him down for her party.

Vasco was made out to be this... gruff, harden man who just does not care for anyone in this world. All he cares about it is himself and making money from his mercenary job, don't matter who he's gotta kill. Besides... it's better than what the Iron Kingdom put him thru. And now some weird girl from the West is coming to him telling him that the Iron Kingdom is pulling some shit, hurting people, giving him a chance to get revenge on the bastards. it would be cool...

this Vasco just looks like a sleepy old grandpoop.

I saw a pretty cool rough sketch of a redesign that would be closer to the original on /v/, but after the Juju fiasco i'm not sure I should post it here. I doubt that sort of thing would happen again but pretty sure Mike said he and the rest of the team aren't going to take specific fan suggestions like that again anyways.
