Filia Painwheel Unknown
Hello, my name is Riah. I'm fairly new to Skullgirls, with it being my first real fighting game and I am super motivated to get good at it (if Smash bros. doesn't count). I have around 110 hours in play through with it all mostly being me in the training room practicing BnB's and mixups. I've completed the tutorials, read a ton of character and beginner guides on this site and steam, and learned a few simple mixups, and felt comfortable in deciding to actually play real players, but that was a completely different story. It's very frustrating and unmotivational trying to play and being disrespected on by players who can reset you to no end and know they can beat you because you have no idea what you are doing. I could have sworn I picked the beginner lobby...

For the most part, I played Solo Filia until I recently decided to try out Painwheel as a teammate so I can get comfortable with the both of them before moving on. If any advanced players that are willing to tutor a newbie to point out flaws in his game (defense, and approaching seem to be my biggest problems) I would gladly appreciate it.

Edit: Forgot to mention location, but I am in the US (East Coast) more specifically RI (campus), and NY (hometown). My campus wifi is ok, most of the time, but I cant really do much about it when it acts up sadly.

The first thing to note is, whereabouts are you? You'll probably have a lot more luck finding a mentor if have a decent ping/connection to them, and this generally means finding people that live in roughly the same area.

Oops, apologies. Edited

Wifi isn't ideal, but for RI you can hit up @Zidiane and for NY @Mr. X and they can probably tell you who the go-to people are in those areas.

Oh. Hi! How're you. Let's see, now... I can't tell you anything about NY, but I can tell you about the stuff I go to. Hit this thread up for the GU squad. They meet up in Natick, MA every Friday for Game Underground, and I could probably pick you up on the way the weeks I do go. Also, this Saturday, everyone is heading down to NJ for Hitbox, which you can check the info for here. We have me and and a few other well known and good players, and we can help you out and just hang out and maybe eat some food with you if you decide to show up.

I'll look into this. I don't really have much money or time to travel outwards for tournaments or hangouts out of state unfortunately.

It's usually like 5 for gas and 5 for venue. If you can scrounge up 10 dollars and a Friday afternoon, you won't regret it. Let us know.

Yeah, locals are 100% the place to go to improve and get better and also make some new friends.
I don't think anyone has regretted going to their locals.

I just took a plane to go visit someone else's locals.

There's also some steam groups that focus on tutoring and practicing with new players:
BnBeez - https://steamcommunity.com/groups/BnBeez
Skullgirls Slapfest - https://steamcommunity.com/groups/skullgirlsslapfest

There's also a very active Skullgirls training clan on Facebook.

I can't really help as a tutor because you're too far away from me, so you should totally try and go to the East Coast meet ups!
They are all very nice.

That's actually not as bad as I thought it would be. I'll look forward to any upcoming if I can make it. When is the usual time frame for it? Are they also beginner friendly, or do they lean more towards people with at least some experience in PvP?

Just check out the link to the GU thread for times. People play their level, but no one is ever trash talked for being bad or anything, and if you ask for help you'll always get an answer. The skill range varies from person to person, and I'm certain there's someone there who you'll be able to play evenly. Just check it out, we'd love to have you!

New players are always welcome at GU, I highly recommend trying to make it up sometime

@Natezer is also in RI and he has all the best drink recommendations 10/10

Double posting because I'm a dangerous criminal with a hatred of authority

@Riah in addition to the good suggestions in the thread from my friends Zid/dMags/Nate/etc, you may also want to talk to @Lilman. He's a good player and he plays your team (although he plays it in the opposite order). He's from Florida so your ping to him will probably be pretty good (or as good as any connection can be on campus Wifi, anyways)

I have been summoned by Mcpeanuts. If you want to send me a friend request on steam I wouldn't mind playing you a few sets to see what you need work on. What assists do you use? Like Mcpeanuts said, I play the same team but I play Painwheel on point.

Sure! My team build is currently Filia (Point/Updo), and Painwheel (Middle/C.Mp). I am just going to remind you that I am within New England, and my connection isn't the best. I am going to look into purchasing a Modem to help up my connection to play with others easier.
