Metal Gear Solid/Rising - The best is going to end soon

I love the MGS series. My favorite is Snake Eater. It helps that the story for that one can stand on its own. And the gameplay was great. Plus I loved the Fear's general hamminess. MGS4 was entertaining enough. It's the easiest of them all, but I get a kick out of it. I don't get all the hate on 2. I don't think Raiden was as bad as people said. I never fully beat MGS1 because when my save file goes away I tend to never want to go back to that game. At least not for a long while. I haven't gotten to place Peace Walker or Rising yet.

hafta agree on the mgs4, but it has its moments

the microwave corridor scene left ME exhausted and depressed. THAT'S dramatic

ah! it's not THAT bad of a game... it just makes you feel kinda down, but in a good way (not like the way big rigs makes you feel bad)

the entire game consists os Snake's life coming full circle and everybody telling him they dont need him. this game is gaming's saddest moment. its the feel bad game of the PS3.

Duke, MGS4 is pretty much the videogame embodiment of depressing.
Saddest Metal Gear game by far. Nothing else compares to watching your hero slowly fade away at the end of his life, robbed of the opportunities that people like us take for granted every day. Even as his body weakens and wrinkles he still fights on for a very simple ideal. To leave the the world the way it is, to respect the will of others while believing in your own. Though fictional, it's people like this that make me want to enlist in the military.

the reason Snake wasnt in PSABR was because no one would play any other character.

I was stressing out for that scene until I had my health go to zero and wasn't dead. So I just kept mashing until I made it through.

Get another avatar son.

OHHHH! SHOTS FIRED! SHOTS FIRED! Better have your MGS1 headband on, SON!

BTW while the subject of MGS4 is still up, post credits is a mass production factory of manly tears when it gets to........
.....part where Big Boss struggles to salute the Boss's grave again like in MGS3. No amount of testosterone can hold back tears from that.

Can't we just get along?
We can, but our posts will be get confused for one another. When you posted here i though i said something that i didnt remember.

Gotta admit I was a little confused at first. "Why on Earth would the user who makes claims of being the "UNCHALLENGED OWNER OF WORST USER NAME" change his user name?", I wondered.
Still, to play Devil's advocate, there's certainly nothing wrong with two Juris. =3

Anywho, my MGR saga continues. Got a lot of Ss and a Chapter rank of A in Ch3. *obamanotbad.png*
Took a lot of retries and abusing the crap out of L'Étranger's H-L-H string and some dumb luck certainly helped.
One thing I don't like about this game though, is how some ranked battles can be missed by ninja killing enemies. But it is a beef I have with P*'s titles in general. In Bayonetta, I really dislike the fact Alfheims are part of the stage rank. It's kinda pointless to do them after reaping their reward.

But what I wanted to ask was: do you folks implement sub-weapons in combat? I gotta be honest, I rarely - if ever - use them. Usually a rocket to save hostages but that's it.

I think whats awesome about Raiden is that he was almost universally hated (I liked him back in the day), but he's come so far over the course of ten years and he got a fucking awesome game out of it.
Reminds me of that cheeky TAKE THAT at the MGRR haters.
MGS fans in MGS2: I hate Raiden. I want to play as Snake.
MGS fans in MGS4: I love cyborg ninja Raiden. I want to play as him.

Well, I wouldn't want to spread such confusion.

I actually got a little confused as well when @Bit_Strife showed up. I was like "Hold on a second, that's not @XthAtGAm3RGuYX's signature. is it?"
Here's a compromise how about you two just get new Juri avatars? I'm happy to know that I'll never have this problem, I pulled this Wolf Eye out of the depths of Deviantart (Don't worry, I made sure to ask before using it).

My personal favorite is MGS3, which I consider the best in the franchise.

Ocelot being my favorite of the series.

My favourite games are MGS2, MGS3 and my favourite spin-off is Revengeance. MGS1 is good, but the gameplay aged badly and MGS4 pissed me off with its dumbed down difficulty and retcons. Never finished Portable Ops nor Peace Walker yet.

you start the series with MGS3, and end it with MGS4.
its like that sandwich at KFC where the chicken is the bread.

I might get shot for saying that, but one of the things i like the most in the whole series is the MGS2 themes.

If you think about how all that deceiving and information control conspiracy theory got there WAY before internet became the uncontrollable mass of stuff it is today, it makes MGS2 the videogame counterpart of 1984 or brave new world

And the s3 idea seems pretty real, there ARE real studies about personality manipulation through semi-real experiences (ocelot's version of the s3 plan starts around 03:50)

And the digital conscience's logic kinda makes sense too (starts around 01:25)

I agree with you wholeheartedly. I loved MGS2 when it was new, but I only finished it on PS2 once. Years later I got the MGS HD Collection for PS3 and MGS2 aged very well unlike MGS1. I was surprised how MGS2's themes of Internet Censorship are even more relevant today.

http://metagearsolid.org has some great articles about the themes in MGS games, especially 2. Here's the link to them - http://metagearsolid.org/mgs2-articles/

You mean that one that gives turbo diabeetus?

Also a good play through map would be

MGS3/Peace Walker HD/MGS1/Sons of Liberty/MGS4.

I've heard mixed things about Peace Walker from other fans, but having just finished it(technically), I count it as a legit Metal Gear. Not to mention the fact that it pulls a lot from MGS3, which is my favorite one. The comic style cut scenes are nicely done. Updated controls takes a minute to get used to. Fulton Recoveries being invisible to NPC's is kinda silly but understandable. Then little things here and there that add to the story immersion. Mother Base pacing is well done. It was also nice they managed to do a game without ocelots(theres 3 versions if you think about it) or other snakes. It felt different and good in it's own way. The only thing I dont like about the game is the severely neutered Codec function which is probably a left over design choice from its PSP launch, and the fact that once you recruit a select few characters, they dont really have any importance or notable appearances until the end of the game.
Only problem with my play map is that you start with great controls, transition to shittier controls, and then back to good ones.

I want to play MGS4 already, but I am unmotivated to do so since this is a lended ps3.

On the subject of MGS: MGSV please whet my appetite for more stealth action. MGR why aren't you on PC?

gosh damnit etc.

Probably because blade mode wouldnt work with a mouse and not everybody has an xbox controller on hand.

Also who seriously believes MGSV will be Kojima's final mission?

Well, Kojima does say every MGS game is supposed to be the last. I think its better if he keeps it that way. Every ending to the stories feel concrete and complete. you feel satisfied with the thought that this might be the last Metal Gear game.

the amount of fucks I give. ( superbly nonissue, fixable ).

I want it tho V:

Well, it doesn't seem like he minds. He always puts a strong effort and there's this incredibly amusing passion he has for what he does. Hell, just look at his twitter. Kojima is just a big nerd who loves doing what he does best.

He also loved Pacific Rim.
So +1000 respect to that glorious man.

I think I already mentioned this, but I own a copy of the official soundtrack and I love it. It's a shame that Khamsin turned out to be a lame villain, but he has a great theme song.

Played MGS, MGS2, MGS3 and MGR:R now that it's on PC. (shotouts to "Blade mode probably wouldn't work with mouse" :P Dunno where you got that idea since mouse is a more accurate stick)

Really liked MGS, MGS2 was quite OK but not quite as good and I played only about 2 hours of MGS3 since I couldn't cope with old equipment and I kept failing at stealth... Gonna try again soon since Reveangeance re-ignited my interest.

You mean lame as a character or lame as a fight? Cause in my opinion the fight was awesome due to there being stealth sections in it.

The Khamsin character was lame, IMO. I found the default bosses more awesome.

Well yeah that I can agree. A stereotypical dumb american soldier that was just expendable.

Khamsin
Why y'all hating on Khamsin?

Incidentally, it reminds me of one my pet peeves with MGRR - lack of dual audio. When MA and Vanquish boast QUINTUPLE audio, it was very disappointing to not have a JP voice track option.
I'm reminded of this since Khamsin is voiced by Rikiya Koyama, who's one of my favorite Japanese voice actors. Paku Romi as Mistral is also bleepin' eargasmic but it makes me feel too weird when playing as Kenshin in Basara (Romi's specialty are androgynous characters).

Allegedly, the PC version of the game lacks Japanese voice acting because the seiyuus only approved their work for use on the console versions. Not sure if that's true, though.

Khamsin might have been lame character wise his battle was a lot more fun then Excelus' or Sundowner's

If we're gonna talk lame boss fights, how about the sword duel against a wuss who does nothing but backflip to the other end of the stage? :P
