Moderator Problems and Rule Clarification Requests

Gonna also say that I'm pretty sure we are all too busy with the events of our lives to schedule 'picking' on x member. If it actually happens then the admins can catch it and the mod will be booted. Few things to also think about...

I have seen nothing done to stop mods from instigating fights with people.

but mods are also not allowed to ignore anybody breaking forum rules when they have that knowledge.

Again, if you push someone to break rules, that is unfair. If a user gets angry at something a mod said to them, that is on the mod. The situation would not have happened if the mod was more responsible.

If you have a problem with a mod [they did something wrong, your confused, etc] then pm them or even use this thread if you don't want the benefit of privacy. Stop shitposting in the thread ruining the conversation for everybody else with melodrama.

I see no benefit to privacy here. An inadequate mod probably isn't going to care if I send them a PM. I also don't see how said user shitposting was any different than said mod shitposting. Everything right now points to mod favoritism.

Calm down. You would be surprised how much a shitstorm can be avoided if you take a deep breath.

Fair enough.

what exactly is going on??? :?
which mod, what, how, when, where???

If that information were relevant it would probably be public knowledge or you'd know by now.

Thank you 13 for the wonderful post that I definitely can agree with on all points.

Why am I even bothering? You idiots aren't going to do anything. You're just going to keep up your mod circle jerk.

@Midiman Do us a favor and get hit by a truck. I want to see your head splatter all over the fucking pavement. Kisses.

Don't punish all the moderators if you have a problem with me. Putting the cart before the horse, aren't you?

Also, what? There is seriously nothing that serious or personal that you need to call for death? That makes you look as suspect, if not more, in this case??

That makes you look as suspect, if not more, in this case??

As suspect as you? Are you admitting guilt?

Yeah....blatantly telling another member to go die is worse then anything that even happened in this little melodramatic spat. It's bad enough that it's actually within our rights to moderate you for...
No Threats of bodily harm - Forum Rules
Yeah not gonna let this escalate. You already got warned earlier. Take a break for a couple days. If your still feeling sour either learn how to control your cool, pm us, or don't bother at all. The ban will lengthen accordingly if you keep it up.

Mods shouldn't be instigating fights with people or singling somebody out to pick on. I figured a mod would understand how to block somebody if they hate them that much. I expect that from Lockjaw, not mods.
I'm not going to comment on this too much except to say that I've posted a note to that mod in the mod section. I'd also add that while some of their comments were questionable, your own were disproportionately worse unless I've missed something big.

I know its not my place but what exactly went on in that thread almost every time I go back to it theres a fight between either Denizen or a mod or another User vs a User.
Indivisible thread will likely be changing soon but before that happens I need to get information from certain people and so I have no ETA, unfortunately. Could be days, could be weeks

And an older post that didn't get covered before:
Heres an idea how about instead of removing Cellsai we add more art mods..unless theres a limit of course but looking how a lot of fights break out over there we probably need 1 or 2 more mods. me mod
Cellsai has asked to be removed from the position because of IRL commitments. There's no limit on the number of mods, but we obviously need people to apply, and for those people to have the necessary qualities.

:(

I'll never be recognized...

You've got a long way to go until you're on this level.

I applied to be an art/media mod a while back (hopefully I have the necessary qualities). If not, I can try to get them! When do you finish selecting mods, or is there no rush? Thanks.

There isn't a set deadline at this time for getting new mods. We may set one later.

I too would like to join for the art section but I'm away home now till september 1st, can I apply when I come back? Or it will probably be taken so whatever?

If you're interested, just apply. It's not going to close any time soon.

So, like,
what's the deal with Denizen getting perma-banned?

From what I can tell, it was because he "supported" a troll, simply by posting "hey mods don't lock this thread lol" or something to that effect.
The message on the post reads that there were multiple other offenses, but I have no earthly idea what those offenses are.

But I mean really, what could he have possibly done to deserve a perma-ban? Yeah, trolly posts in unnecessary threads are gonna be annoying (and nothing else) for a mod to have to sift through, but,

what he did wasn't offensive, it wasn't troublesome, it wasn't even all that annoying, so banning him over a succession of such simple goofiness feels,
pointless. Pointless and overly harsh and needlessly strict.

Like,
why?

Definitely, it was way too much. Denizen can be a butt, and a jerk, and he may or may not have made me cry before, but it's mostly a joking facade and if you get your jimmies rustled over it then are you really in any position to be a mod? C'mon now.

We're adults. On the outside at least.

I think that's a thing that only mod types can see,
cause I searched his page beforehand, and asked someone still in contact with him multiple times,
mainly to avoid embarrassing moments like this 0:

Either way, even a one month ban seems a little extreme for, you know,
"hey mods don't lock this thread lol"

I'd have thought you'd need to do something really extreme to get banned for a month, but hey, I don't make the rules.

Now I don't want to get involved and I want to stay out of this but I think the reason for his month long ban is "repeat offensives" He could've gotten warnings before but refused to stop much like Lockjawsaga. All I'm saying is maybe the ban is because of multiple offenses instead of just this one. But like Jimbob said

I don't make the rules.

I don't like talking about user's bans publicly and it wasn't me that put the ban in place, but seeing the recent attention he's got I figured I'd make a few points:

1. As Kai said, the ban is only for one month. Hell, Sage has been banned for longer. I cannot think of a user that has been permabanned that hasn't just been a spambot, duplicate account, or literally made an account just to post troll threads.
2. The mod team has had so many run-ins with him that I've lost count. Seriously. He's currently got 17 warnings on his user profile, which I think is actually the highest on the site and is a LOT when you consider that the points system was only introduced comparatively recently (the start of this year) and we've been dealing with him repeatedly since long before that. The mods feel that they've been very lenient with his constant behaviour up to now.
3. A few days ago one of the mods sent him a PM saying that they'd had enough after the recent drama, and put him on notice that the next transgression would be a ban.

Alright then.
Like I said, I was under the impression that it was an indefinite ban (cause I was, you know, told multiple times 0:) but,

yeah, objectively speaking a month-long ban for 17 transgressions in the space of half a year is pretty reasonable. I dunno what exactly all these transgressions amount to, as I've only seen the one, but, eh.

Sorry for causing trouble then >.>

Don't be sorry - it's important that you know that we're trying to be reasonable with how we use our mod powers, so the least we can do is explain our reasoning.

Is it okay for me to post something about my own project in the Anime, Manga, and Cartoon section. I wanted to ask for some input on where to go with it and other general questions but i think i recall something about "no self-adverstising."
Could be wrong though.

Pretty sure that Kai had a thread for his music somewhere. Assuming that it IS an animation of some sort and that you're being clear that it's your work then I guess it would be OK.

EDIT: On second thoughts if you're looking for feedback then the Art section is probably more appropriate.

The whole project itself is very illusive, sort of like Alex's Skullgirls doodles back in 2007, "There going to be a thing I just know it."
It's very big and has had several artists work with it but atm it's just something that, exists.

And if i recall correctly isn't the art section for Skullgirls related art only?

Ah. No idea, then. You'd normally have to ask the art moderator but at the moment we don't actually have one. I'll see what the other mods say about this and get back to you.

Mod applications are closing September 4.

I made a training diary, and it has been made invisible.

Since I will be censored here, I guess I will leave.

My bad. I didn't realize it was against the rules to say that you could not improve in Skullgirls. Oh well, I guess my opinion doesn't count since I don't love Skullgirls and am not one of the best players on earth.

My bad. Didn't realize expressing dislike or frustration was against the rules. Thanks Flotilla. You are a very accepting, nice, kind, considerate, and in no way a jerk.

Your SG 'training diary' wasn't a training diary.

It was a pessimistic rant why you fail at fighting games and how you are quitting trying to yell for attention. Invites no discussion at all. Not even showing any effort to improve which is one of the points of the diaries. I can post a screencap of it here right now and it won't help your case.

I wasn't directly involved with the moderation of your thread, but this just supports the case that new members first few posts have to be auto mod approved was the right call. Lurk more.

I dislike the "depressing talk" on videogames too but isn't it to harsh to delete everything and ban new members? Shouldn't we be a bit elastic with them? Try to explain why they said stupid staff, and how they must act in the future? Throwing out new people like this won't help much the community.

He wasn't banned otherwise the person would have got a 'banned' title by now. If you paid attention to his post here [and read his 'diary'] he is 'quitting' on his own choice. His very first post announced his 'quitting'. Very fitting for a 'IDGAF' username and status. In other words his whole profile creation was to get attention and seeing how his 'diary' failed to do that he is trying his luck in this thread.

Soft deleting a shit post thread isn't harsh at all. It's actually a service for the rest of the people on the forum. Pretty sure if a similar 'quality' thread was in the event section it would be removed from public view as well [most likely from a report request from at least 2-3 people] for the benefit for those that regularly frequent the area so they don't have to sort through that melodramatic mess as they scroll down the threads. It was done for the benefit of the other legitimate SG diaries. If anything in that thread was salvageable then maybe it would have been locked, but considering this was somebody who made an account today that doesn't really support that his intent was not trying to shit-post the forum.

The job of a moderator should be to encourage people to post in a way that helps both them and the community get the most out of it, not to ensure that anybody who posts something incorrect gets BTFO.

This might be a stupid question but what if you want to make a thread about "What makes a good fighting game character design?" This is a discussion about character designs in all fighting games including Skullgirls. Where would this thread go?

I guess the "other fighting games" section would be most appropriate.

These new rules... Can't bloody use my color and now a new "Can't quote media" rule? sheeze >.>
There's only one new rule,

"- No Quoting Embedded Images and/or Videos"
Has been around for a long time, it's the third rule of the site.

I can add 'or other media' to clear up confusion if you think it would help!

again, there is a plug in for it if it's really that much of an issue... unless you're using a different forum base type.. cause a while back used to help manage one and there was a plug in for it that we used.
