Monster Hunter

Guns at least definitely feel stronger, but I feel like certain weapons should have gotten more attention.
Oh, guns were buffed to be at the same level as the bow finally? Good.

Yeah, the Switch Axe feels pretty much the same. It's a good weapon, but it still doesn't feel like it has that weight behind it or anything. The hunting horn has had no real changes, but it didn't really need any XP Same for the gunlance. Giga laser I still love you.

If you're wanting to exchange friend codes, I'm down. I definitely suggest starting out with online after getting the initial Felyne. Get to at least HR 2 and get comfortable with the bosses, cause the story mode is a bit of grind. A good grind, but it's made easier with equipment that crushes those offline monsters like butter.

I didn't say that, I just said they felt stronger.

I think I'll get a zam armor set or weapon before I play online, I hate being dead weight. All I have is Boosted Hammer, Defender Blade and a Tet armor set.

My suggestion is for Zam armor with Tetsu legs or a pair of legs that give Torso up. Throw in any pair of gloves, and you get meat lover without the negative effect :D Being able to chomp some raw meat and get max stamina is great, especially on expeditions.

I can't speak for the light bowgun, but the heavy bowgun has arguably some of the highest DPS in every monster hunter game.

Sorry, I shoulda specified that I'm talking about the light bowgun.

Yeah the Heavy Bowgun has good damage, but with Bowguns it's hard to feel the weigth behind the shots because they just kinda fly off and hit. I think they kinda fixed that in this game, or at least it feels like it is. I'm trying to work with this awsome Nerscylla Heavy gun, though, but trying to decide which bowgun armor to make is HARD. I wanna make the Najarla bowgun armor because it just looks plain cool, but it's not very useful for that specific bowgun...I might go with Gravios due to the large defense boost and then put on some precision gems to make it all work...or I'll grind and get my good ol' Nibelsnarf armor from 3U, that was a good set...So many decisions.

Speaking of decisions, I don't know how, but currently I have like 5 Great Swords I'm working on upgrading, and most of them are Water Element >_> I have so many water element weapons its ridiculous, and a lot of the monsters I need to kill resist water DX

Also praise Capcom, we can save item sets! No more spending 15 minutes fixing your entire inventory to go grind specific bosses! YAY

The streamlined inventory management and customizable lower screen is what I like most about this game.

I'm kinda sad some of my favorites haven't made it back. The Lagiacruz obviously would have had some issues and I understand them taking it out, but...I dunno, they coulda used the Ivory version since that one fought mostly on land...Nibelsnarf was removed, but I can still get it's decent amor set :D, Agnaktor, from what I've seen, has been removed. I'm not for sure about the Urugaan though. I hold the Urugaan is stil in, that was a petty good monster, though the Gravios seems to be able to do what both could do in one just as large package so...

I have to say, though, some of these new monsters are pretty cool. The Najarla is an interesting fight, though it is absolute choas when fighting it and another monster, usually the Najarla taking tons of unnecesary hits from it's buddy XD, and the Seltas. Oh God, I love me some giant bug monsters, but the Seltas and Seltas Queen are just so awesome, I can't take it.

Uragaan is not still in, they removed a lot of the iconic monsters from the 3rd Generation.
It's understandable though, it makes it clear that 4th Gen is way different than 3rd Gen.

at least we still got the Jaggi!
500px-Moves_like_jaggi.gif

The Baggi were way cooler and they took those out so fuck this game.

I mean the Ludoth made it in just fine.

Got my Zam top. Now all I need is the Zam Charge Blade.

Ludroth is in? Where? I know I can trade for it's parts, but I haven't fought it so...

They removed a bunch of monsters:
-Removed all the dumb Jaggi Clones (and baggi)
-Removed Urugaan
-Removed Agnacktor
-Removed Barroth
-Removed Barioth
-Removed Nargacuga (dammit I love this one!)
-Removed all Sea-based monsters (though you can still catch Plesioth with the felyne mini game, which is humorous)
-Removed all Beasts aside from Zinogre (which is a wyvern anyways) and Lagombi, replacing with honestly cooler beasts
-Removed Gigginox (and replaced it with Khezu, which is basically a blind Baleful Gigginox)
-Removed Duramboros (does anyone really care?)
-Removed Nibelsnarf (as long as I can get it's later game armor set, I'm good)
-Elder Dragons Dire Miralis and Alatreon have been removed, replaced with Shagaru Magala and Kirin.

Now I can't say for some other monsters, like the Diablos or Deviljho. I do need some Devilhjo parts and it'd make sense if it was back, and I beleive we saw Diablos in some trailers. It appears there's a new Mohran known as the Dehren Mohran or something. I hope the Jhen is still there, though. But I doubt it.

If any of this is wrong, feel free to correct me.

I'm pretty sure both Diablos and Deviljho are in but I mispoke on Ludroth.

Gore Magala got the D earlier.

Gore Magala is...Well as a monster it's really awesome! But...the equipment you get from it is so...black and very dark purple. Evil Knight overdesigned motif is fairly annoying. I mean, at least it looks less silly than the Brachydios blademaster armor set.

I find myself using the Seltas armor. It's pretty good, but for some reason, I have way to many weapons that use water element. Like, seriously, I have like 15 weapons I'm actively working on...and about 6 or 7 of them are either water or become water >_>

Also, I'm in high rank and I'm STILL grinding the NerScylla for it's dam claws. I don't know what I did, but somehow like every one of the main weapons I use or are trying to get up to my level, need Nerscylla claws. I literaly spent 5 hours straight just grinding them and still didn;t have enough DX

I've noticing that capturing isn't as big of a thing this time around. I don't get the stupid abundance of materials like I did in previous MHs.

Queen Seltas is the shit, though.

I like the Gore armor, I don't think it's very great, but I do like the look of it, we don't have many grimdark armors in this game, so it's a breath of fresh air.

Was that pun at the end intentonal? If so, bravo!

Yeah, Capping doesn't seem to do much. It's still usefull for ending fights you're not totally prepared for, though.

This game has a ton of original monsters that break the mold.
A giant Hermit Crab, 3 new insects (insects seem to be a running theme for some of this with the new Insect Glaive as well), as well as original beasts. The Kecha Wacha is pretty cool, even if I don't like it much. Much cooler than the Volvidon or Arzuros.

I hadn't played a MH that had the Tigrex in it before, and I honestly thought it'd just be a Barioth but not ice...oh god was I wrong. Tigrex is pretty beastly! It has a lot of the Barioth's moves, cept it can do them low the ground and immediately, like the spin as well as ridiculous charges and....it even has an attack unique to wen it is Frenzied? The Tigrex surprised me by how cool it just generally was :D

Gravios seems like such a lazy replacement for the Agnaktor and Urugaan. Agnaktor could've been reclassified as a Snake Wyvern just to increase that pool, seems like such a waste. At least the Gravios has some decent armor.

Yes it was intentional, and at least we have Zigore.

Motherfucking Lighting Wolf Dragon.

Most metal shit ever.

Zinny is best doggy :D His armor is still the most ridiculously overdesigned and gaudy thing ever, but I love him al the same :D

It looks like they've been trying the keep flagship monsters. We got Portable 3rd and 3U's, but Lagicrus didn't get so lucky. I still think they coulda had the Lagiacrus, or the Ivory version at least, show up on land as a boss. I mean...it makes sense. Eh, whatever.

I've also noticed the LARGE amount of monsters that weild status effects in this game over the last one. 3U had a ton that inflicted blights or inflicted some status effects in passing, but there weren't a lot of that inflicted them in general, and stink was limited to a few. Here, practically EVERYTHING has a blight and a status effect, or multiple status effects they can use! The only ones that don't, really, are the Velocidrome and Jaggi. Everything after that you gotta watch out for those status effects man!

I like it, means you have to come correct and not just barge in at something.

I don't take this game seriously so I'm still at 3 Star quests. I'll have some time to catch up to y'all when my wrestling season is over.

I might be nitpicking a little here but, North I think you're a little confused as to which Monsters appeared when.
I mean what came first and what's new to this generation. Your order is a little messed up.

god damn it my copy STILL isn't here and shipping info hasn't updated in almost a week.

I might just be, so I'll just stop trying >_>
I like the high presence of status effects as well, it does add a good amount of strategy.

I just got high rank. Currently grinding Hermatar and ores for hi-rank armor. that stinking crab hits SO hard man.

So the Arzuros Set has the Speed Gathering Skill. I know what I'm using for a while.
It's a shame that the monster itself isn't in this game, it looks pretty cool.

Aight nerds, time for a progress report.

In the story campaign I just beat Shagaru Magala, which felt like a final boss even though I completed only a tenth of the whole game, probably even less. This game has by far the the coolest story mode I've seen in any installment, but y'all don't care about that.

I'm HR 5 and mainly using Long Swords, but I just found new love for the Gunlance. I'm using Mosgharl Armor 'cause it looks cool, but I switch it up on the situation. So far the game is fantastic and made even more so by the Circle Pad Pro. It's a must have if you plan on Gunning like me.

Shagaru Magala is a pretty tough boss, yeah. The Deh'ren Mohran is pretty underwhelming n the cross from Low to High in retrospect.

Anyone know how to fight the Basarios and Yian Garuga? I need their parts, but have no quests to fight them! And I know they're low rank, but...Gah!

You can get Guild Quests for them by doing expeditions. I think you might need to do their Caravan Urgent missions first, though. According to Kiranico (http://kiranico.com/en/mh4u awesome site, has a lot of good quest info) the Basarios Urgent Quest shows up after completing Kecha Wacha Wallop (lvl 3). Yian Garuga's shows up after Remobra Remedy (lvl 5).

Oh, ok, so they require guild quests. Got it. Thanks. A lot of my online digging was turning up empty handed. Thank you much.

I'm so free to akantor's tail swipes lmao

Going to be a while until I find a group that doesn't cart against rajang. 0/3 so far

Gah the DLC looks pretty great! Too bad it's missing Mega Man and Dante! I am literally about ready to kill for those mate!

I just realized that the Seltas, Seltas Queen, and their equipment all have very subtle Gurren Lagann references.

Radical.

wait what? Really? All I knew was that the Seltas kicked ass and so did its armor

Do you want me to write you a list?
If you've watched Gurren Lagann then you'd know what I'm talking about.

.....Oh god, you're right!
