Squigly
Hey, so I noticed that there's been a lot of demand for Squigly tech, and that even top players have been having trouble wrapping their heads around how to use her effectively. In response, I decided to create a video guide showcasing everything I've learned about the character. It's pretty long, but I divided it up into different sections for Mobility, Normals, Specials, Super, and Resets to make it a bit easier to digest. Timecodes for the different sections as well as combo inputs can be found in the description on the video. The video is freshly uploaded, so it may take a bit of time before YouTube processes it up to 720p.

Keep in mind that I had to count out all of the frame data manually, so there may be mistakes here and there.

-_-" I just started putting together mine and here you come with a guide -____- I say that as a competing content creator *sigh.* But as someone else in the forums, it's good people have a video to look through who's like visuals instead of text, not saying text is bad. Honestly sometimes it's better. But as I'm a visual learner, I've grown to love tutorial/guide videos :) so anyways, ima checkitout and give my input/comment/like in a bit!

P.S. TWO HOURS & THIRTY MINUTES >_> oh wow...next time shorten it to maybe 30 lol. But anyways, so far so good, great voice, and structure.

P.P.S....then you named it "ultimate...guide" ugh i hate you lol. ruining all my processes here

MY IMPRESSIONS OF THE VIDEO
--- --- ---

I like the information in the video and you have some good points, a good amount which are echoed in the forums, but wonderful that you mention them. However, 2.5 hours is ridiculous...no matter how you cut it. 20 minutes or 30 if in-depth is a good sweet-spot for character guides, especially if youre keeping the info rolling...but it's like you decided to do an inpromtu video in tutorial mode and are doing it as you go. LUCKILY you're not annoying to listen to and have a good voice...and don't stumble so it makes it not that bad, but there's no way I'd watch all of it. Of course I could probably skip forward, but contents or a time-mark guide in the description would be good for that.

A couple small, but helpful tidbits you missed, and some opinions I strongly disagreed with like j.lp & raw chord (charged) and some other stuff, but it's alright. There were about 2 things I didn't know about though amazingly, so I applaud you for that, 1 of them being gamechanging. Perhaps you just forgot to mention the others I know, but you covered quite a bit (well in 2.5 hours I hope you would). I liked it, but the part that I really wasn't feeling was the reset part. In my thread, i literally have a video fulllll of resets...and the first one you go over is great, but after that you go over the j.mp thingy which wouldnt be a surprise if changed. Why didn't you go through the list of resets I made in my thread? You said a number of her resets were gimmicky...but the j.mp one is probably the most gimmicky of all (i dont mean anything insulting by that btw). But others too?

Anyways, it was a nice video. I think you covered a wide range of data, but it was so long.....and the useful info is lodged inbetween the constant attempts to show us something that just could've been pre-recorded :( Anyways, it's a good start for sure, but I guess I'll go over it in my guide.

TWO HOURS & THIRTY MINUTES >_>

[shrug] It is what it is. I said everything I had to say and that's just how long the video ended up being.

j.lp

I'm very curious as to what you see in this move. I've been playing around with it as a potentially ambiguous crossup, or for left-right mixups, but nothing tested and true in actual matches as of yet.

resets

I acknowledge that Squigs has way more resets than I show off here. My aim was simply to demonstrate 4 very different ways of resetting combos that Squigs is good at, and let the player build off of those ideas to come up with resets that better match their own combos/playstyle. Also, when I call a reset "gimmicky" I mean that a good player will not fall for it twice. This is especially true of her 4-hit burst, since decent players will not mash, and will know the burst range by heart. The same applies for all throw resets. No decent player will fall for the same throw reset in the same place in your combo twice in a row. This also ties into why I say in the video that it's not about finding the ideal reset, it's about filling your arsenal with them to keep your opponents on their toes about which reset you'll employ, and when.

Btw I just wanna say off the bat I applaud you for the video. It's incredible that aside from maybe 5 other squigly players & me, someone else really knows the ins & outs of squigs. It's really cool & scary loll. But anyways, I agree and disagree about the resets...and I'll tell you why.

Aside from combos, the only thing separating a good player from an ok player is experience, knowledge of the meta, and reaction. No of course a "good" player won fall prey to the same reset...and that's why you have a myriad of resets!:D plain and simple. You have SO MANY until the opponent is confused and by the time you're done, they don't know what hit them. It's different to bit people with 2-3 resets randomly than the same one twice.

(Sorry I'm all over the place, ignore the last part kinda)

Resets fall into 2 categories: 1) an inescapable illusion or unusual -- typically the illusions are very safe...the sudden unusual ones often not so much. HOWEVER, whether you want to classify the "gimmicky" (unusual) ones or not, they work when done randomly and/or sparingly. And many are almost guaranteed if done in the beginning of a match (no ones mashing at this point). ALL it takes are a couple resets to win depending on how you stretch undizzy. I personally use a lot of resets/mixups since my squigs is in a duo and has to do "more work," but I'll tell you NO squigly has beaten mine who just does one long ass combo with one to no resets (not saying you do)...in fact I haven't ran into ANY squiglys who reset at all :p and I've been fighting a lot lately...but then again usually once I get my hands on people I don't let to so maybe I'm not qualified to talk much about that lollll. And if they have beaten me, I always ALWAYS beat them after & don't lose after that, whether due to underestimation, lag, or whatever. Resets are our friend :)

But I guess all I'm trying to say is the entire point of 90% of resets is "gimmicky." It's to confuse. Of course most characters have 1 or 2 resets that are near impossible to read, but NOT impossible to block (obviously...it's a reset). And also, in contrast, starting off with the "boring" combos is great GREAT for training the opponent into getting lackadaisical and finding that needle in the haystack...the reset. If you can integrate them fairly seamlessly without changing the cadence of your attacks/patterns an smoothly segue into resets, then they're good! Be it gimmicky or whatever. Dashing back for burst bait is a SCREAMMMING giveaway..BUT going up for a jump on a third launch-loop then suddenly crossing under with an incredibly fast divekick isn't! Aside from maybe fortune since she gets knocked up so damn high...you can honestly get away with murder all the time when done at the right time!

Get what I'm saying? Some of the best resets are the most stupidest of course. But I mean come on...it's squigly. She doesn't have cray cray movement or indirect glancy attacks like others, so it comes with the territory. But in short, "gimmicky" isn't a valid excuse.

*2.5 hour Guide*

I watched this whole thing! Very in-depth (sometimes a little too much) and a great start for someone like me that has not had time to figure out Squigly. If you were going to edit it a bit, maybe cut down on backtracking and repeating ideas.

Two things bothered me. I was hoping that from a guide this long I would get some good advice on how to mount an offense or when to be defensive when playing other characters. Combos and resets are only useful if you can work your way into the opponent. All I got was the double-jump j.HP to SBO.
Secondly, you emphasize the importance of using s.HP early and often in combos along with stance cancels to get damage, yet you do not do this at all in your combo and reset section. Maybe her relaunches should be more emphasized.

All in all, I feel like I've learned a good way to string Squigly's moves and their effective ranges.
