This episode was very nice to see, mostly cause I was growing up in times when Status Quo Was God in every show.

But those cutie marks are still damn ugly. Those colors really clash with coats of all 3.

In other news, we just found out today that when Lauren Faust discovered what a Longma was (when researching Rainbow's replacement in TFH), her first reaction was, "Crap! We should've made Discord a Longma!"
Heh, and here I was excited to drop this bit of trivia after having just listened to the archived stream.
Might as well post the full quote I wrote down:

(about Tianhuo)
I had never heard of a longma before we started researching this character, and when I discovered it, I went "oh crap, that's what Discord should have been!"
I originally made up a draconequus because I wanted something that was half-dragon and half-horse and I had no idea that something like that had already existed, so that was a little bit of a facepalm moment for me.

They keep introducing new siblings (Fluttershy's brother is next) but never anypony's parents.
Wouldn't say that. We've already seen the parents of Twilight, Rarity and Pinkie + possibly Rainbow Dash' father.
That said, Applejack's words in the last episode seem to confirm what everyone was assuming since forever. "If mom and dead were here, they'd be so proud of ya" sounds like a thing you'd say about someone who is gone, as opposed to for example "they'll be so proud when they hear about it".
