Volume 2! @severin and @Negus Eyoel go toe to toe on last week's @keninblack stream and lets break it down. aka i already started this before NEC vids went up so yeahhhhhh

  • 0:40 Both players start the round with some assist footsies/chicken. Sev forward dashes, blocks, and calls DB, while Negus reads right and double jumps to avoid is, and calls FI. Unfortunately FI gets hit out of startup and Negus gets hit anyway.
  • 1:11 After missing the incoming mixup, Sev uses slide to get under PW j.mp and kara dp through it. Footsies!
  • 1:41 Sev with a nice pushblock bait. Instead of ending the air string with a heavy he lands in stead and goes for an instant overhead.
  • 3:07 Round 2 start, Sev starts the round with a poke, but narrowly avoids FI assist with the tear toss. Reactions?
  • 3:15 Negus with a very tricky DB non-crossup, but unfortunately drops the double snap.
  • 3:28 Negus with yet another tricky same-side mixup, but this time using double jump and FI assist.
  • 3:48 Nice burst bait from Negus. DB j.hp has tons of hitstun so it’s a good tool for baiting the burst.
  • 3:58 Assist punishing 101. At the least, launch them, and then follow up as necessary. Negus backed up, so Sev went for uncombo>relaunch on the assist, but drops it.
  • 4:45 Negus pushes his luck with a third non-crossup and it gets blocked. He then as the reactions to go for throw before Sev’s counter call assist comes out.
    • throwing people who call their assist defensively is a pretty good option when you can use it. Most people will be blocking, waiting to react to how the assist plays out.
  • 5:05 Don’t be scared of DB level 5!
  • 6:49 Round 3 start, both take defensive action and call assist #skullgirls, which is followed by them both trading small shots and looking for an opening.
  • 7:36 Basic PS mixup, use the j.hp to give lots of blockstun, dash in for high/low/throw.
    • Again at 20:51. Pushblock don’t matter!
  • 7:50 DB gunshot is annoying.
  • 8:10 Mixup tool! airdash>throw. DB assist is locking Negus down, and the emtpy dash sets up Sev to go high immediately after. It can be very difficult to block. You will see this used a lot.
  • 8:15 Sev didn’t like how much red health was in play, so he snapped, which also sets up a nasty in coming mixup. And if that was blocked, FI with PW assist is a much easier team to fight against than the other way around. Snap more!
  • 9:56 Great reaction super from Negus to avoid the bike and get the kill
  • 10:20 For the rest of the match Sev shows how good Fillia movement can win you matches. Even though Negus gets his hits in, he doesn’t convert fully, which allows Sev to run, and still dictate the pace the the match.
  • 12:20 Round 5 starts. Negus goes on the offensive thinking PS shot pressure and goes for FUGAZI> gun shot. Pretty decent option.
  • 12:40 Napalm pillar through the car. Do this PS players!
  • 13:00 size differences makes happy birthdays hard and sad
  • 13:11 PS j.lp makes PW sad, as we have seen a few times in this match
  • 13:15 PS backthrow to bike, good option to get the corner
  • 13:38 Probably the most underused PS move, mk egret. Very good against DB, especially catheads. Here it takes away gunshot as an option, so Negus has to take some risks getting around it and gets hit.
  • 13:50 Bike super is almost always a good trade against jump-ins
  • 15:40 Something I like to do a lot. If put into blockstun in the air, pushblock, and then pbgc with a falling normal. A lot of the time people will look for you to not push and just fall. Sev does and goes for a low, and gets hit by DB falling j.lk
  • 16:00 DB lvl 3 is not fair.
  • 16:25 Sev with a couple nice reaction supers with FI
  • 18:40 After some dancing, both players do some counter super chicken. Negus wins with the PW install after Sev tries to be tricky using dp super to avoid the car.
  • 19:07 Negus tries to set up some instant overheads with PW but doesn’t let DB drop.
  • 19:23 Those tricky PW crossunders don’t work on the heavies as well!
  • 21:00 Cool PS pressure from Sev, using the air tear placement cancelled into normals to keep it going.
  • 21:24 #swag #mcdouble
  • 21:38 PS corner combo, stealing.
  • 22:29 Round 9 starts, DB c.hp shows not to mess with it.
  • 22:50 Ticky late xup from Negus with DB, which sort of lets him win this round as he never lets up from here
  • 25:47 Sev does the #skullgirls and jumps forward, blocks, calls updo. Negus has been liberal in using jumping normals, and gets stuffed here.
    • This has happened plenty in the match already, just pointing it out here. Adapt!
  • 26:50 Negus calls his assist too late and gets pbgc dp super-ed for his troubles.
  • 28:45 And you get a happy birthday! And you! And you too!
  • 29:08 after the wall bounce you can st.hk to otg and continue without popping ips.
  • 30:45 Tech chase into over head. Looks so pretty.
  • 31:25 Nice fake charge j.hp to airthrow from Negus with PW

Overall it was a pretty good set. A few combo drops from both players but what can you do. If anything I saw a lot of risks being taken by Negus that ultimately ended up with him getting hit by an assist, and that usually sealed his fate. Looking forward to seeing what both these players have to offer.
